  • Many of the new passenger vehicles we drive these days are electrified in some form, either as hybrids or full EV’s. More and more of the transit vehicles we ride on are following a greener path too, with electric and hybrid power on the rise, along with natural gas and other clean fuels. One company in particular, is flying high as an innovator of tomorrow’s clean transit solutions.

      For over 100 years, people have tried creating battery electric vehicles...and FAILED every single time. Why? Because no matter how advanced the batteries are, their energy density cannot match fossil fuels, they take WAY too long to charge, they wear out over time, they don't work well in extreme temperatures, AND...they like to spontaneously combust (especially LI-ion batteries). But hey, at least there's no exhaust pipe, right? 😅

Battery farms and pumped hydro batteries make it extremely reliable. In my province, over 60% of our power is from renewables (includes hydro). Maybe if you live in Florida and other sunbelt states you will have a combination of nuclear, gas and coal. Also loud engine noise can make people who work around them daily feel tired at the end of the day. Ever heard of sound induced fatigue.

    • @andrewwalker9960
      @andrewwalker9960 Před 4 lety +4

      On one hand, they were mainly focusing on the electric models; but they did show some non-electrics in production, and I’d imagine that Metro’s new XN60s were probably in production around the time this was filmed. I’m super jealous of Metro’s 60-foot New Flyers. I work for Foothill, and we have a whole bunch of the XN40s like Metro’s, but our 60-footers are NABIs. Metro has a bunch of those too.
      Our current electric buses are Proterras and, from what I’ve heard, we’re not getting any more of them. I really hope we get some electric New Flyers.

      Hydrogen is a costly fuel source due to it's inefficiency in production, energy requirement during storage and inefficiency during energy extraction. This makes it in the long term less economic for vehicles which drive alot while still having the choise to go battery electric. Look up "The truth about hydrogen" from the youtube channel "real engineering". He explains it in more detail.
