  • @ali1t
    @ali1t Před 12 lety +3

    There's a metal washer on the old filter that you need to swap into the new filter, it usually sticks to it when you take it out. Also when you "prime" the new o-ring, you should just dip your finger in the oil and coat it, run your hands around the entire thing, no need to dip it in the bucket with oil, just makes more of a mess..

    The smaller o-ring for the filter doesn't go on top of the filter element, it wraps around the stem at the base of the oil filter plate. It's supposed to be removed and replaced.

    Also, you want to start the bike up and let the oil circulate through the filter and then shut it off, let it sit for 5 minutes so the oil can drip back down and then top off the oil to the correct level.

    FYI... for anyone wanting to do an oil change for this bike, DO NOT follow this video step by step. I understand this is an old video and the mistakes made may have been realized. One the small o-ring gasket goes further down the filter bolt, it can be found upon disassembly of the filter. Also there should be an aluminum washer that goes between the spring and the filter during assembly, it looks like it was missing in this video.

    Put the oring in the sun for a while to get the kinks out and its half sight glass not the full sight glass .Still cant believe you used car oil. Every sight glass on ALL equipment in the world is standardized to be half full when the equipment is full...so you can see it.Over filling will cause the crank shaft to froth the oil and will starve the motor just the same as if there was no oil.

    • @brandynkelly9319

      the oil filter catches any pieces of junk whether it be small pieces of metal or other things so if its full then the oil cant pass through it and wont filter the oil so youll have dirty oil and you dont want that stuff running through your gears or engine.

    too much oil put in the engine, extra pressure can be put on these components, which can lead to leaks. ... Overflowing engine oil can also lead to bent engine rods and collapsed valve pipes. Spark plug fouling - Excess oil can find its way into spark plugs, which will then need to be replaced.
