So the GSXS1000f is more horsepower, cheaper, lighter, more comfortable, better brakes and better mileage. But you say it was down to splitting hairs....?

More to a vehicle then what’s on paper, lot more. Why you think people by mista’s! The driving experience isn’t shown in the numbers, it takes actual seat time to see what all the fuss is about, good or bad! Like how the R6 always made slightly less power then the other 600’s but it could whip them on the track where it mattered! Sometimes it’s not how much power you got, as much as what kind of power, and how well you can put that power to the road. Like to date, my favorite bike was the 2002 ZX900RR, first bike to hit 9’s from the factory! I had a new one back then in my early 20’s, and could ride like a mad scientist on it. It was like it was built just for me, it fit me like a glove! To this day I haven’t road anything that felt that lively, light, and raw just torque every where, and a redline that would suck your eyes back in your head all the way to 140mph! To me the 600cc bikes was way to small felt like a toy that tried to leave without me and no torque just all high end hp! The liter bikes was about the right size but they was just a little to much in the power department I really don’t need 200hp+ to be quick on the road and sometimes to much power or weight will make you slower! And I always loved my 1996ZX750RR but it was heavy and lacked the grunt to do really long wheelies and or smooth with it like you had to really try to get the wheel up the 900 you just blipped the throttle and jerked back a little and it would come up in any gear but 6th! Perfect bike!

Ninja is the better touring bike, GSX is the better sports. There is no "best" bike on the market, it all comes down to what you personally want from a bike.

my entry bike was a R3 because the ninja was stiff, uncomfortable. lower on power... they just haven't kept up with yammies or anything else

For me the perfect entry bike was the CBR500R. I'm a touring guy so neutral riding position, 12,000km service intervals and 350km+ fuel range made it outstanding, even outperforming Ninja in several respects over the years. I actually ended up keeping it and use it as my commuter because the clutch is lighter and the bike is narrower making it easier to split lanes in heavy traffic. That's just me though, no doubt the R3 is the better bike for people who do track days or want something a little sportier.
Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't trade my Ninja for any other bike currently on the market but it is hopelessly impractical at times. Where I live out in the country you're lucky to find a fuel station that sells petrol at all let alone premium, most only sell diesel.

Absolutely love it! Felt a lot better to sit on then the Ninja. The Ninja felt like a bus, whereas the Suzuki feels more flickable.
It handles incredibly in corners. Absolutely love the renthal handlebars!
What's best is it is really inexpensive to insure compared to a super sport. It was even slightly less then the Ninja.
I am getting older and had to sell my 2018 CBR 1000RR because it just hurt my back after 30 minutes....how comfortable is your Suzuki? I mean if the seating position less bent over? I know this is marketed as a sport tourer so I shouldn't expect full upright but curious how you found the comfort of the GSX-S.
@Matt M it was very comfortable. Kind of a hybrid between a Harlely and a sport bike. If you want to sit up and chlil you can, but if you want to duck you can too. Had to sell to help care for my father, but I have no regrets!

I own a Ninja 1000 and I've ridden the Suzuki.To be totally honest, overall I agree with the review. Suzuki engine is better but they need to sort out low down snatching. Both engines are very good in the mid-range though. Kawasaki seat and tires are terrible stock, changing to the gel seat and good tires makes a massive difference to the bike (but we shouldn't have to, should we Kawasaki ?!). Suzuki stock tires are better especially in the front end, I'd say this is why the Ninja front end felt sluggish. Remote pre-load on the Ninja is excellent, however - NEITHER of these bikes come with adjustable compression damping in the rear !!(Review should mention this). The Kawasaki luggage is stupidly expensive (here in Australia anyway). I bought a simple tail-bag instead with was less than 1/10th the cost. Lastly, the front of that Suzi is seriously ugly. Those headlights would want to be good because they ruin the look of the bike. I'd probably buy the GSX-S1000F if I had to choose but I'd curse Suzuki every time I walked past the front of the bike.
The front end of the GSXS grows on you once you own in lol. I heard someone say it looks like a falcon so I run with that. It's incredibly comfortable for a liter bike.
@@ginob615 I think the front is by far the best of its kind. The bike actually looks great to me and almost better than some of the 2010 GSXR1000 bikes.

@@ginob615 Kinda feel like the sport touring class went more Adv and killed off this type of bike as they are more purpose built for comfort yet still have the speed (Im thinking FJ-09)

My dealer dropped my Panigale so while they're fixing it I've got one of these Suzuki's as a courtesy bike. When I first rode it I have to say I was not impressed, but having now got some miles under my belt and reminded myself that it isn't a sport bike it's a good little bike and great value.
Will back up what the review mentions regarding the initial bite on the brakes, not the best but the rear has loads of feel and actually does something unlike most. Front end in my opinion doesn't offer much feedback which is made more noticeable due to the rear offering a fair amount. Switch gear etc do the job but don't feel hugely refined though.
With my limited sports tourer experience however I would give the little Suzuki the thumbs up.

Love the Suzuki and I'd buy one. Amazing bike for $11k. We need more sport touring bikes. Just wish it had the fantastic available integrated luggage of the Ninja.

+Greg Quillen I've heard that before. Could work. Other than massive power, I wonder if there's a handling advantage over a FJR1300 or Concours 14. The ZX is a BIG sport bike. But nobody is buying them so I imagine good deals can be had.

If the GSX doesnt sell in bucket loads there's no justice. It's billed as a bike with one toe (just a toe!) in the touring camp but that's not what it is, it's a complete nutter of a bike, it encourages you to go mad. It's absolutely brilliant, a real hooligan

Ive got a GSX-S 1000F and its no problem two up ive done 4 hour rides no bother.good review I must say Im going touring on mine TO Scotland in May ive got a Bagster tank cover and a 30 litre lank bag and a 16 litre tail pack, sorted.
I have a 14 ninja 1000 and the vibration issue is bullshit there just isn't a problem, I ride 600 mile stints with nary a problem, the bike is comfy and handles great, bottom line best bike I have owned! Only thing is put a 190/55 on the rear and it makes a huge difference in handling, buy the Ninja you won't have no regrets!

Both beautiful machines, when you look at the bikes you want one that does it all, & perhaps carry your bags on weekend treks.
The Suzuki seems great all around minus the baggage.
Two totally different machines, Kawi designed the 1000 motor specifically for sport touring, while Suzuki used an old version of a sport bike.
i own the ninja 1000 (z1000sx) and the gsx-r 750. the gsx-s1000 felt like the gsx-r 1000 with upright bars; roll the throttle at 5000 rpm and it gives you that slingshot acceleration - it is a beast. great bike, but not what i wanted for touring. i love my ninja for long trips and think it´s better looking than the gsx-s 1000 and the FZ. if i had to pick a suzuki for TOURING i i would go with the v-strom 1000. just my 2 cents.

Ninja benefits from a rear tire swap to 190/55 inlieu of the the 190/50
The Ninja is a fair bit heavier and is a genuine sports tourer while the Suzuki is more of a comfortable sports road bike.
Well-done. It's only a matter of time until the Bandit 1250S comes back for the more touring-oriented sport-touring rider. I have to say though, it looks like the Suzuki has an almost complete lack of luggage options...
I wish the front end of the suzuki wasnt so cartoony as it sounds like a great bike for a blast to the coast .

Not really any equal comparison. The Ninja is a bike that can take pillion and luggage for touring. The Suzuki can't take luggage or pillion very well so it is misleading marketing to call it a sport-tourer.
Ninjas seems more setup for touring,because of the saddle bags.
+stephen warnix Suzuki really dropped the ball with the tail section on this thing. No provisions for factory luggage, and the tail is so abbreviated, it'll be a pain trying to strap a bag to it.

I love the concept of a sport-tourer and imagine myself owning one someday. Don't think anyone is making quite the perfect sport-tourer yet though. The Ninja 1000 seems close, like I could modify it to be exactly what I want; But I'm worried I would never be able to tune out enough of the vibration. Guys talk about rubber mounting the tank and seat, putting weighted bar ends on, taller gearing. Then, other guys are saying, "yeah I tried those things and it's still buzzy." While others claim their stock n1000 isn't bad at all. Guess I need a test ride.
The handling on the Kawasaki is an easy fix. Instead of the stock 190/50 tire, put the 190/55 on it and it is night and day difference. I did this to my Concours 1400 and it turned a big sluggish motorcycle into a stealth scalpel that turned in as quick as an R6

Here in the UK the Ninja can always be found at around £1500-2000 cheaper at almost any time of the year..

Versys 1000 leans even more touring with the same 1043cc engine. Not quite the canyon carver as the Ninja but more long distance comfort.
If Suzuki gave the GSX-S1000F reasonable passenger accommodations and the option of integrated luggage, then it would make sense as an actual street bike to me, and I'd be interested in purchasing one, but as it stands now, it's just too low on real world usability to bother with.
Funny, honda and suzuki always seem to be the comfortable bikes to ride, as opposed to the kawis and yamahas
And the good thing is 4 of them are ultra reliable and affordable than the Europeans ❤❤

No hard bags on the zuk turned me off. My round trip commute is 100 miles and I have to carry my work clothes and my lunch. With the ninja I already have hard bags, so all I have to do is add a tank bag and I'm golden.

both fun looking bikes but definitely need to be put on diets. ninja1k is 71 lbs heavier than my 04 zx10r. if there was a way to shave the weight and get it to close to the zx10r, I'd make the switch.
Sometimes it's hard to tell apart a naked bike with fairings and sportbikes.....

I have a 2016 Ninja (or z1000sx as it's known in my neck of the woods) and I love it. It might well be heavier and the handling a bit more sluggish than the Suzuki but if it's the bike you've got you just get on with riding it ... and it's a fast and capable bike. That said, if I didn't have to think about the wife sitting on the back, and the Kawa's better luggage situation, I think I might have gone with the Suzuki.
How do you find the vibrations?
It is maybe a wee bit buzzy within a narrow rev range but nothing I can't live with. I've ridden both bikes now and I can't believe (and don't believe) that the Kawa is over 15hp down on the Suzi and if anything I'd say the Z pulls harder than the Suzi (i.e. has slightly more torque ... or at least that's how it feels to me). Performance is about the same in every way on both bikes and it's just the engine characteristics that are a bit different ... the Z being a bit more turbine-like (and buzzy if you will) while the GSX is more 'rorty' for want of a better word. (BTW apologies for slow reply, I'm not on here much.)

I am SHOCKED, SHOCKED I tell you to see that the bike with the most HP is once again the winner of these comparos. That NEVER happens! Why just a while back while promoting,.. er .. I mean REVIEWING the BMW S1000XR the reviewers noted the bike had so much bar-buzz at Hwy cruise it wasn't ride able for more than 15 minutes but was nonetheless rated the best Sport/Adventurer tourer EVAH!
The Ninja has the smoother torque curve and produces more hp almost at all revs than the Suzuki right until it reaches it's red line, the Zuke then climbs for another 1100 rpm. I know I do all my touring at Red line exclusively. As for the weight difference the Ninja is designed to support the addition weight of a passenger and luggage with some weird thing called an enhanced sub-frame. In this strange universe we live in extra materials add extra mass. Now let us discuss the Suzuki's luggage and tour capabilities..what's that? It doesn't have any? er well umm, ok then. I guess you could put some toiletries in a zip-lock and stuff them into a jacket pocket, or something.
Look I have nothing against the Suzuki, nor do I own the Ninja. In fact after sitting on a Ninja 1000 I didn't like it, rider position too hunched over for a 40plus year old like me and certainly not for "touring". If you want to compare the S1000F to sport bikes be my guest, but in a sport/TOURING comparo and it won't really tour, well it fails before the "test" even starts doesn't it? Kinda like comparing a Porsche 911 to a Jeep Cherokee in a "family hauler/camping vehicle test" and then the Porsche wins because THE POWER am I right "bro".

I loved all the reviewers fawning over a vibrating buzzy "sport tourer" because it was "faster" than the Multistrada. I rode my Multi 3200 miles in 9 days from CA to CO and back...and it was comfy. Sort of important. With 3 bags it was as sporty as I could have hoped for on the trip.
Maybe get these reviewers to ride longer than six hours and see what they say.
+percussion 44 You must have missed the part about the Ninja having worse brakes, exhibiting distracting engine buzz, having a less comfortable seat and handling worse. In addition to less HP. Yes the Ninja is more ready to accept after market luggage. But that fact alone doesn't make it a better tourer or better overall bike. Especially when it losses in every other category. Plus there are plenty of luggage solutions for the GSX that work great.
No Offense but it is a SPORT TOURING BIKE.... You kind of have to compromise between the two if you're looking for something that is a SPORT & TOURING BIKE.
You know they made a Genre of bikes for you and sales seem to be booming there... It's called ADventure touring bikes...
Sport Touring bikes are for people who want a plenty capable Sport bike that won't kill you all hunched over like a full fledge Sport bike... Doesn't mean it has to be completely relaxed .. Your analogy was just plain stupid and ignorant honestly... A Porsche vs a Jeep Cherokee? No...

The guy with yellow in his helmet should have tested both bikes. He is clearly the better rider. The other one makes the Suzuki look slow.
When I test rode the Ninja1000 the first two things that really stood out were the sluggish and heavy handling, and most of all the annoying engine vibrations. There's no way id' want to ride let alone own a bike that has nasty vibes like that. Kawasaki may as well make an all new engine and bike at this point.

2 cons for me with the Ninja 1000.. Vibee engine and weight. I;d always choose lighter handling bike, more power, and more comfortable.. The Suzuki wins on those 3. The only pros of the Ninja are the convenience of adjusting the Windscreen and Remote rear suspension preload adjustment..
There is no chance in hell you are getting 196 miles from the Kawi. None. It will not happen.

I even skipped the Ninja 300 for my Girls first bike. the seat was hard. suspension was too stiff. and had no guts. ended up getting her an R3

So suzuki says peak horsepower is 145 hp and kawasaki gives 142 hp for the ninja (at the crank always).
If we are to believe this sheet at 1:55 the ninja makes 122 at the wheel (which is logical) and the suzuki has only 3 less hp at the wheel than the claimed 145 hp AT THE CRANK....right...totally legit review

I had a ZZR1100 which did about 300km on a 19litre tank.
When you using it to get to work, fun is good but money in the pocket is better.
These are high performance engines...

the best bike in this category is the BMW 1200 RS anyway (I've heard / read) ... besides that these two bikes a hideously ugly - ugliness is the only category where they are a close match to the BMW.

Rubber covered Peg's on the fuji heavy ind. bike & Absalutely Zero mention of this Real World Road trip riding, that Rubber Covering add's way more Long Distance Comfort that any other peg can't & Never will ,& i'll be Going with the GSX-S 750's Rubber standard peg's as a Swap out for the 1 liter bike.Stupid how suzuki only Rubber cover's the 3/4 liter bike & Not the 998cc bike, & Absalutely Dumb. Smoking Low Grade Crack again Suzuki or What ?

That suzuki is one fugly motorcycle, looks like an old katana 600/750 got it on with a bandit 1250 & had a baby & an ugly one at that!
