    Thank you so much Jon. I've been saving this one because I knew it would bring up so many memories and emotions. I lost my front teeth playing tiggy at the battery. Ridley Park had the biggest, most dangerous, slide I've ever seen in a council park. As a child it was a daunting prospect. I remember the bombsites well even 20 years after the war. I watched the old pit heap get turned into the new golf course. I can still hear the sound of the foghorn lulling me to sleep at night.

    I sailed in and out of Blyth during the early sixties on a ship called the Storrington . We loaded coal for power stations in the south of England. Your history video was very informative and brought back many memories. Thank you.

    Thank you for this video, I have lived in Blyth my whole life and have only recently become interested in it history. I work outside of Blyth and people often look down their nose when I mention it, which is an unfortunate effect of the downturn in the 80s and 90s. Blyth is emblematic of the UKs move away from industry and was left to rot for many years, sadly even people from Blyth often are quick to bash it because they don't know their history but videos like this help. If the North East is proud of it's industrial history then it must be proud of Blyth as it played a significant part for such a small town. With the new railway being built I think it's future is a commuter town and it will never return to the heights of the previous century but there is a lot look back on with pride here, sod what anyone else thinks.

      Thanks Caroline, YES we have amazing light here many photographers and painters have used it for inspiration including LS Lowry and the great William Turner to name but a few. Its due to our latitude north and the way the light is refracted through the sea air. I started life as a painter and migrated through photography to video. You should come and visit.

    Hi Jon, great video, plenty of history i had no idea of.We had 10 days in Northumberland mid August, stayed in a terrace house in New Biggin. Blyth was a great place, Swam in the sea, saw massive ships come in & the lovely park. People were friendly enough too😊. Cheers from West Yorkshire 👍

    One correction. The 'new' railway station was more central on Regent Street, roughly in the bottom left hand quadrant of Morrisons car park if viewed from Regent Street today. In the photo you use, Regent Street would run parallel to the front of the building with the entrance and clock on it. The street running up the left hand side of the building is Station Street.

    Great video but the photos of Ark Royal are Ark 3, Blyth built Ark 2. Also the power station the figures are for individual units it had 8 in total for 1850MW for about 20 years it was the most efficient station in the UK.

    • @jonimrye5722
      @jonimrye5722  Před rokem

      Many thanks for your comments and input. At the time of production the Ark Royal pics were all that were available to me, so rather than have nothing I felt it gave people the idea and marked the historic occasion. Your info on the power station helps to describe how iconic it was in its time. thanks again, best wishes Jon

    My friend lives in Blyth I wonder how much she knows about the history.
    Just out of interest why are you not wearing a coat? It's not exactly known for being warm on the North East coast.

    • @jonimrye5722
      @jonimrye5722  Před rokem +1

      Thanks for your comments (love the spelling of your name btw) The reason I dont wear a coat on camera is because it looks naff and amatuerish. Presentation is important to be taken seriously. Each year I purchase a different outfit for my camera appearances so the presentation is uniform and professional. I normally dont start filming until the spring when its warmer but because this series has so much content I needed to start asap. I hope that fully answers your question and thankyou for showing your concern for my welfare, best wishes Jon x

    Blyth is not the same as it was .Closed shops and very little to do. They've closed the Keel Row shopping centre and it's being demolished so all of the shops inside are gone.

    • @jonimrye5722
      @jonimrye5722  Před měsícem

      Yes I know, someone is moving there from the south on the back of watching my programme, I feel guilty! Cant remember what is replacing the Keel Row now, I was told but Ive forgotten. Blyth was run down when I lived there in the 80's but when you are making programmes you have to find whats best about it otherwise people get upset. Hope you are enjoying the current series? Best wishes Jon
