This is my reaction/review for the album 'Fatalism' by Polaris! I've covered most of the singles on the channel, other than Overflow because that dropped just after I filmed this video. I am really happy with this album and have a number of tracks that stand out as favorite material but I think Overflow takes #1 for me. What are your favorite tracks?

Dude yes. So much of this album in the second half reminds me of the awesome mixture of pop punk/metal core that existed 2003-2010 which happens to be my teenage years so I’m fucking here for it. 9/10 album is fucking awesome.

The fact that this is another strong album of the year contender is insane to me, this has definitely been a great year for metal/metal core
2023, the year of video games and metalcore.
Literally, we got P5, sleep token, avenged sevenfold, Polaris, TesseracT and more that are completely blanking in my head
Invent animate wins 2023 imho but this new polaris album slaps tho
With regards might be the most underrated song on the album, that chorus is fucking beautiful
with regards, aftertouch and overflow really do it for me. aftertouch just… wow
My problem is i have 5 favourites and i can't decide 😅. I love all songs in this album its the best album i have heard so far if you rate it as a package. But those 5 stood out for me:

FAR AWAYYYYYY...I’m sorry but I’ll always have a soft spot for huge sappy choruses in metalcore. My top 2 of the album are easily With Regards or All In Vain. This album just hits all the right spots for me *chefs kiss*

I have a feeling Ryan knew what was coming so he played every song on this album like it meant everything to him, and I think it did mean everything to him.
Dissipate and crossfire are my two favorite songs on the album. The whole album is fire. I didn’t hear one bad song on it to be honest. It’s literally 10/10 for me and it’s not because of Ryan passing. It’s a shame, but at least he was able to write this masterpiece for us.
For me Aftertouch hits different. The progressive build up and emotions, combined with the deep lyrics. Goes straight into my feels!

You definitely want to listen to With Regards with the lyrics pulled up. I know he was here during this song's creation and it's written about someone else but I can't help but think about Ryan when I read and hear these lyrics

I thought the same thing- if they wrote this song in record time after his passing and put it on the record but I don’t know that would’ve been possible because it 100% sounds like post-passing which feels eerie
Ryan's passing gave this album even more depth for me. This is their best, Ryan is a legend❤
I could go on about this album for hours, it's just so, so good. It feels like they all really stepped up their craft so far. I absolutely second your love of Martyr (Waves), and when I was going through this album for some reason Aftertouch really reminded me of it. So emotional, so much build, Jamie absolutely tearing his soul out for the vocals, and it wraps up into that last chorus soooo well.
Overflow remains unreal for me, such a perfect track
This album has really taken on a whole new meaning and feel in light of the recent events. These boys absolutely killed this album. Definitely my favorite of the year so far. RIP Ryan and welcome back Polaris 🤘

It's rare I find an album this good. I can't pick a favorite between Dissipate, Overflow, and Parasites. Even harder would be picking a weakest track, but I think I connected least with Fault Line, even though that's still a banger and on my playlist.
i thought the Mortal Coil will never be topped but I can say that this is their best album, its a mix of the first two with a better production
Parasites, Overflow, Inhumane, The Crossfire, Dissipate and All in vein are the standout tracks for me. S+ tier album, and it also feels like the other songs will grow on me.

Barely anyone talks about Parasites and it’s a seriously underrated banger, it hits so hard and the lyrics basically are “don’t become a slave to the system, fight back”. The whole song just screams of power. The stabs are so good and using an EQ system with heightened bass thickens everything so much to the point where you feel everything in your bones. The others are good, but (choruses especially) they are too chill and clean and predictable. I love the rage and screaming. It hits after a few listens, trust me. Side note, does anyone have any recommendations for songs similar to Parasites because if I had to describe my taste, it would be that

"Inhumane" was an intro to this band for me so now that I've gone back and looked through the discography this album is in my opinion their best one but it's still really close when compared to "The Death of Me" in terms of which is better. This Album is MASSIVE
Just a really really great album. Probably one of my top 3 albums of the year. TDOM never really connected with me, but this one really does and brings me back to The Mortal Coil days. My top 3 songs are All in Vain, Overflow, and Dissipate. Invent Animate’s Heavener is 100% AOTY for me and probably my favorite album in the past 2 years, but this one is definitely a gem and in my top 3.

What a band and what an album this is, ngl I literally cried at every song 😂 but my god this album is one of my all time favourites so far.
In addition to my first comment: I love the «I gave it time to sink in» approach with your review. Most people are interested in a blind reaction (I am one of them), but it is only fair to add the second part a few days/weeks later. This is what happend with me. Albums often get better, if we give it a few more listens. I haven’t bought it yet, because on my first listen I was disappointed (the beginning didn’t capture me. Interestingly enough: I started with The Death of Me and thought the album was fantastic. Then I listened to The Mortal Coil a few times and (without me noticing) that have become the album, I enjoy more. But after watching two full reactions (yours and David Wolfe’s), I consider a purchase. Keep doing, what you are doing.

So I probably shouldn't have waited this long to check it out! This whole album really good, not a single track I dislike. The vocals and the synth are really big highlights for me. Incredible riffs as well though.

Aww, you cut the best part of Nightmare. "Somebody kick the chair, fuckin' wake me up!" Nightmare, Parasites, and Dissipate are the standouts to me after a few listens. The Overflow chorus is 🤌

That guitar scratch at 42:31 in All In Vain sounded like some transformer type of shit. Nonetheless, the song Dissipate got me feeling some type of way I can't explain. This album is so fire, I love all of the ambient and technical effects they put into every song!!
The crossfire reminds me so much of 2006 Saosin idk why...It was my childhood...I miss those times in someway and that`s why it is the most special song on the album for me :)

This album grew on me. This is my 3rd listen from start to finish. I think, the second half is better than the first half. The singles really didn’t touch me that much. I am glad, that I gave this album a second chance. After my first listen I was a bit dissapointed. The Crossfire is my favorite track, but Dissipate and Aftertouch are fire as well.

I LOVE every single song on this album… except for Fault Line. I think the album hits a lull with that song and I personally would’ve preferred for Aftertouch to go straight into All In Vain. With that being said though, this album is an easy 93-94% album.

For some reason Polaris has never been my cup of tea, something about the sound just doesn't click. This album however is very solid.

Hey it’s me (without the he he he) lol. Someone asked me if I listened to this when saying Heavener was still my AOTY, so I did and I can see why they asked. On first listen my standouts were Overflow, Dissipate, With Regards, and Aftertouch. It’s a really solid album, but Heavener just does something to my soul, nothing makes me feel the way that album has this year. 🥹
