    Love the new propane access door! Unsolicited tip for the bathroom door: I noticed the hinges that are currently on the door are *cabinet* hinges (not door hinges). Replacing those cabinet hinges with actual door hinges & hardware should fix the issue for good.

      Yes then need door hinges. The ones installed now aren’t designed for that kind of load.

      Door hanger … you can use the same screws and holes … but they make little plastic washers and snap on caps for the screw heads. They are el cheeps and look great. Take one screw out, slide on the washer-cap 1 pice unit and screw it back in and so on. Check to see if cap will snap over the head first… or take a same into the hardware store and check it out first.

    Definitely invest in a water pressure regulator. It’ll save your pipes. And when you’re connected to city water you shouldn’t have to use the pump.

      Thanks for the comment! Don't worry though, we've used a pressure regulator every time we've hooked up since the water system was installed, so we've only ever had 40 PSI going through it 👍

    You really need heavier hinges on that door, esp if you are hanging damp towels. The hinges you have look like hinges for kitchen cabinets - they may hold for a bit, but not long-term.

    Having been a fan now for many years, drawn in by the international travels and escapades, I am coming to the conclusion that the Lock Down and subsequent RV renovation and beyond, has taken the Endless Adventure to a new high. I have enjoyed all episodes historically, but the new videos are even better than previously, if such a thing is possible. Maybe Clementine gives a new focus. Loving this!

    Incase you were not aware,
    NFPA 1192 Standard for Recreational Vehicles prohibits locks on propane compartment doors or enclosures. You will need to change out the lock on the propane access door to a regular twist lock without a key. Access to the propane shut off valve cannot have a lock on it incase of an accident, the first responders need to be able to turn it off. You also need to have the word "Propane" on the door to identify it. The chances are you won't get in trouble, but if you are stopped for a propane inspection before entering a tunnel, you can be cited for it.

  • @michaelmacdermott6340
    @michaelmacdermott6340 Před rokem +4

    Another thing you can do for your bathroom door is what is done on most yachts (after all you are driving a land yacht) is making the door have a gap of about 1 inch underneath the door which solves the problem of swelling wood from humidity that drags across the floor, as well as letting humidity out. Plus you can go to a West Marine boating supply store and get some better heavy duty hinges. Those stores are pretty much everywhere there is boating done. Just a thought.

  • @jackwmoody
    @jackwmoody Před rokem +10

    You strengthened the hinge, but increased the weight of the door with a towel hangar. You could always cut the door even shorter and just put a weather strip of vinyl sweep to seal it.

    Love watching you guys. Make sure you put a label on the door that says “propane” and also you need to change the key lock out to just a latch. Safety hazard in case someone needs to get in quick go shut off propane.

      They can reach under the skirt and turn it on and off, they just can't fill it and see the fill level guage. You can see it in the video where they installed it. They had to fill it before installing it, and they turned it on afterwards. There is a gap between the tank safety shield and the skirt of the RV.

  • @davescorneroftheworld1147

    Pro tip.
    I have lived in three class "A" diesel rigs in my life and this one for the last 17 years.
    NEVER hook up city water to your rig!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You do not know how much water pressure is going into your rig. Maybe to much or maybe very little pressure. *"Well, get a RV regulator"*. NO NO NO. RV regulators are more of a FLOW control than a regulator, they RESTRICT the FLOW into your rig.
    Simply fill up your FRESH water tank and ALWAYS run your water pump. You will NEVER have the water go bad and in winter you will never have to go outside and try to keep your water from freezing.
    Always fill up your fresh water tank and use from it ALWAYS.

  • @kevinfleming9919
    @kevinfleming9919 Před rokem +5

    Get some spray in truck bedliner, or even some truck/car undercoating, and spray a heavy layer on the floor and up the sides of the walls in the compartment where the water leak is. It will create a built in water catch tray, like a shower floor tray liner or catch tray under a water heater so any leaks don't soak into or through the wood floor and rot it out, and you can easily just wipe up any water that leaks and gets held in the bottom of the compartment. (Some will just evaporate also, especially if you add a small fan in there to move the air around and have a small vent to allow airflow and prevent mildew)

    • @laurathompson9649
      @laurathompson9649 Před rokem

      adding to the truck bed liner, you could drill a small hole for the water to drain right out onto the ground!!

  • @zaphodbeeblebrox6627
    @zaphodbeeblebrox6627 Před rokem +17

    What you need for that bathroom door are rising Butt hinges.( I’m not kidding, that’s what we call them in the UK).
    They are a hinges which allows the door to raise as it’s opened ( the hinges has a 45 deg angle built into them) so that if you have thick pile carpet( or in your case an uneven floor) the door raises as you open it by about a quarter to half inch.
    The two pieces of the hinge separate, the piece which goes on the door jamb is an upright pin and the piece which fits to the door has a corresponding tube( for want of a better term. Which slots onto the pin.
    One other advantage is that the door becomes self closing.
    because the hinge is in two parts you can actually lift the door off once the door clears the door jamb.
    If you can buy them in the US ( and I don’t see any reason why not) just make sure you buy the right hand rising butt hinges x 2 as they are handed.
    I’m not sure if this link will work, but it’s just for illustration purposes for you to see what I’m talking about.

    If you winterize your RV by poring the RV antifreeze into the tank it will cause the system to smell like rotten eggs especially if you put it into the water heater. If the pump head froze it will leak at the head and the best repair is to replace the pump. If you do that buy a silent pump then you won't have to listen to the buzzing every time the pump runs. Tip from RV repair man.

    Anywhere a leak is likely should have a drain hole to stop flooding, and it would help to seal the wood with fiberglass resin. If it was me, I would build a small wood dam in the floor around the pump, drill a hole in the middle add a drain pipe an screen, then seal all the wood. Its something commonly done under washers in homes. Some things are eventually going to leak, so plan for it. In the case of an RV, that pump is that thing. and your also going to notice water on the ground long before you happen to randomly check that pump.

    Another commenter is correct. It is illegal to put a lock on the access door for a propane tank. You can buy a latch and replace the lock. This is per DOT regulations. The tank must stay vertical so that the excess pressure valve works. Same as portable tanks must be transported vertical. If the pump still leaks after a pressure regulator (probably not) you can put a shut off valve ahead of the pump.

    Good job of fixing the little issues. And yes the fresh water tank sitting without running all those months creates a stagnant pond issue. But the bleach solution should work. And running the water everyday as well. If you had showered or brushed your teeth or washed dishes with that water it could have made you very sick. But the smell probably kept you from doing that so it probably wasn’t the cause of the illness. But who knows. Thanks for sharing your adventures

    Make sure you have a water pressure regulator for your city water connection.

    Well, at least Clementine is still running smoothly. Like you said you can chalk this up to regular maintenance. I think it was brilliant the way you cut a hole in your siding to access propane knobs. Ooh! smelly eggs - glad you got that taken care of. Fingers crossed you don't have to tear up your floor. Perhaps go on a few more adventures b4 you have to tackle that.
    Look forward to your next adventure.

      Luckily the floor dried up pretty quickly and we haven't had any issues since. We'll keep an eye on it, but looks like no major floor renovation will be necessary 🙌

    You may need some kind of wedging material(rubber) on the right upper and lower corners to keep the door secure while driving, that and others are saying those are cabinet hinges.

    If you reach out to your subscribers when you need a place to park etc, you might have people all over the U.S. who would be happy to help you out. When you were freezing cold in Maine, my mom would have been happy to take you in. She lives close to Bar Harbor, in a cozy 1800's farmhouse with lots of room. Anyway, just for future reference? 😊

      Luckily the majority of RV parks we stay in allow guests to get packages delivered. It's been a lifesaver, especially when we need some obscure RV part shipped to us 😅

    We spent a few days boondocking near the badlands np this week, and upon driving down the dirt path and into town I noticed 3 of the screws that holds our door frame to the motorhome had sheared off. So I ended up fixing it in the parking lot for Wall Drugs oversized vehicles by the railroad tracks in Wall, SD.

    You might want to check Safty rules/laws for the access door “key”. If you notice regular RVs have a latch without a key so that it can be quickly opened and accessed … Look up a RV parts and sale department ( they are all over the country) and replace they keyed lock to a non key … easy peasy to change. Keep the lock AND key in your fuse and spare light drawer etc. You will be able to use it on other doors.

    Hey guys LOVE YOUR VIDEOS you both are so awesome : ) I'm sure lots of people learn from you and follow your techniques so I have one thing to mention with total kindness and good intentions: You drilled METAL and poured BLEACH like 3 inches from your face but forgot to buy safety glasses when you were at Home Depot lol. Eye protection is such an important consideration when doing work that could cause an injury. Imagine an aluminum shaving or drop of bleach ruining your day or worse. Had to say it- Keep up the adventures and fun videos! ❤

    If I understood you correctly, water is backflowing through the outlet of the pump, and causing problems? An easy solution would be to mount a check valve just after the pump so that the valve stops the water before it reaches the pump. This is a fairly common thing to use in eg. pump wells, to make sure the pump doesn't keep pumping the same water again and again.

    That propane access turned out great! I thought maybe a water detector alarm would be helpful in that area. My husband said some people put a tray there...

    Definitely rent a dehumidifier when/if possible for a couple of days to dry out the insides of your RV. Otherwise, great job!!!!
