Given how much you liked Thirteen Storeys, I have to recommend the Magnus Archives! It’s a horror podcast written by the same guy (and he voice acts), and it absolutely has the same energy of a web of stories slowly connecting together. It’s so so so good, and I can’t recommend it enough honestly

I was so happy the first time I saw you mention Blood on the Tracks because I am a big horror manga fan and I love a lot of niche horror manga. Have you seen Oshimi’s other series Inside Mari? There’s also an old series called Higurashi that is one of my favorite horror manga series of all time. Also, OH MY GOD IF YOU LIKE BLOOD ON THE TRACKS READ GOODNIGHT PUNPUN!😨

I loved suffer the children. Genuinely terrifying but I actually laughed at the grocery store scene, only because of how absurd the parents were. Hope that's not spoilery. Hope that doesn't make me sound like a sociopath lol.

I personally ❤ Junji Ito but more for concepts and illustration.
I read "Revenge" earlier this year and was absolutely blown away. It was sooooo freaking good; literally everything about it was amazing. I think "Sewing for the Heart," "Old Mrs. J," and "Poison Plants" were my favorites, but I really enjoyed all of the stories. It's a great recommendation for horror readers who don't normally like short story collections. It's such a short collection, but it feels really dense, like you've read so much more than 150 pages. The prose is amazing, the storytelling is exquisite, and the connections made from one story to the next create this crazy interwoven story line that keeps the reader constantly guessing.
I picked up Blood on the Tracks from your recommendation! The latest volume had me fucking writhing, the art in certain panels had me FUCKED up XD The Push was one of my top reads of 2021 as well, the way the author had you teetering between belief and disbelief was fantastic. Also, as always, you look RADIANT. ❤️

Ugh, hearing you rave about Flowers of Evil makes me want to read it so bad, but I want to save all my horror for the read-a-thon in August. :') I was surprised at how uneventful volume 7 of Blood on the Tracks was; it was quite tame compared to other volumes, but the cliff-hanger was stupendous! Of course. lol 😈
Flowers of Evil is my favorite manga and Blood on the Tracks is everything I wanted and more. I preordered all of them! We have such similar taste

I binged all the volumes of Happiness by Shuzo Oshimi in like less than 2 weeks and can completely agree that Shuzo Oshimi's works are wayy better than Junji Ito's. I remember I started Tomie right after finishing Happiness and I was like "what is this?". I have the first volume of Blood on the Tracks on hold at my library and will be reading The Flowers of Evil soon too.
Update: I started The Flowers of Evil and finished reading 2 volumes and dnfed the series so I'm hoping Blood on the Tracks can redeem itself.
I just finished near the bone and tbh I thought it was okay it wasn’t as terrifying as everyone hyped it and I also hated the slow dragging beginning. It was good wen it finally picked up but I think 3.5 out of 5 for me🤷🏽♀️
Obviously Poppy got me on that book. I was literally like, damn, that's so fucked up. I want to read Suffer the Children. Lord, I got alot in my new haul. My heart is a chainsaw, kin, cold moon over babylon, turtle boy, and maybe Cows. I still have so many from my last haul including, ugh, dead inside. And now I don't want to read it. 😂

Near the Bone ICONIC. I want more books like that. You may like her novel The Mermaid it’s about a mermaid who is recruited to be in Barnum Bailey’s “freak shows” and museums. I loved it! I READ BLOOD ON THE TRACKS BECAUSE OF YOU🙃 sis you got me f***** up those books are so good. I also read Happiness when I had COVID and loved it. Can’t wait to read Suffer the Children.
Comfort Me with Apples was so freaking good 😊 the writing, the ending, and the vibes PERFECTION. Her novel Deathless has been on my TBR forever and I know I will love it so much that I keep putting it off 🤣 now that I know I love her writing I can’t wait to be destroyed by a romance about a death god
Also read True Crime because of your recommendation and it was one of the most contemplative and introspective horror experiences. I wasn’t expecting it to be so reflective and question the evilness of humanity and I enjoyed it so much.
