I almost didn't read it because of the memes. In fact, I purposefully didn't read the first couple of chapters BECAUSE of the memes. well, one day I decided to check it out and it's unironically my favorite shonen manga of today. It's a new manga yet it delivers just as well as One Piece on a weekly basis. The memes definitely hurt it, though, because it annoyed a lot of people off the manga before it even started and especially in Japan it annoyed a lot of people.
The flashback of hakuri taking care of that one prisoner was probably one of the best mid fight flashbacks I’ve seen so far, made me actually care a lot more about his character. This author def knows what he’s doing.
I really liked her, too...
Normally I hated mid battle flashbacks.
But man, it was such a good chapter
We all doubted the Author could come up with someone as good as Sojo. I am so glad he proved that Sojo was not a fluke and he can cook.
Update : Chapter 40 dropped 2 days after I made this comment and it is the juiciest chapter yet. Takeru consistently exceeds my expectation.
I was sad that Sojo was taken out so early and was the first big antagonist because he's the perfect villain from his design to his philosophy to his development. Loved seeing Chihiro have a little bit of Sojo PTSD. But, it looks like we might get Sojo α if the owner of Shinuchi is the one from Sojo's flashback. I'm glad Takeru isn't afraid to kill off villains/characters since we know he's fire at designing them. Keeps the story moving fuildly
I was so worried that the author would try to play it safe after sojo and make the next villain unoriginal but I’m so glad he didn’t and decided to make an entirely different villain even tho he may not have the same depth he’s still just as good as sojo
I raise you this. Kyora has even more depth than Sojo, just less entertaining.
Ngl i think Kyora’s honestly a better fleshed out villain. The themes surrounding his character may not be as important to the series as Sojo’s and he may not have as much rawness + swag, but otherwise he had much more to work with i think
Kyora is a great villain, he is not just as fun as Sojo was.
Dudr had so much charisma.
Sojo was deep in terms of what he made Chihiro confront about the world, his father, and the Enchanted Blades. Sojo basically put forth the thesis, why make weapons if you don't want them used? And Chihiro eventually accepted him, and then beat his ass. He was also an entertaining menace. However, Sojo doesn't really do anything to flesh out the world around him.
Kyora has some decent depth as a person when you explore his personal values, what it is he values, and his familial relations while also being unabashedly evil. He shows us the kind of world Chihiro is in, but doesn't provide a ideology through which to view the world. The arc is thematically deep, like the last one, but Kyora himself isn't thematically argumentative and understandable/agreeable in the way Sojo was.
In conclusion, both are good, with some different reasons.
It was clear that the creator was rushing in the beginning of the series and has now slowed down to let the series breathe. It was likely the fear of being axed or at the behest of the editors.
It will take about 3 years for this series to get an anime.
I can wait for peak
sakamoto took almost 4 years, looks like the new pattern, in mha day it took just 2 years.

Kagurabachi is just one of those series that knows what it is and is not apologetic to it. Not every series needs to reinvent the wheel especially in battle shonen series but this series already has so much depth, so many great characters, ideas, villains, etc. that you don’t often see this early into the story. Genuinely, please read at least the first arc of this series. I really hope it goes up from here

I'm really like how the Rakuzaichi arc has the recurring theme of the desire for fatherly acknowledgment and how (while it isn't always something vocalized) as soon as that desire is in the room, everyone silently respects the ambition that stems from it regardless of affiliation

I get what you're putting down at the beginning, Kagurabachi reminds me a lot of JJK's early chapters where a lot of people simply called it generic and a clone of Bleach and Naruto with a twist. But eventually, it was proven to blossom into something most people didn't expect it to be and proved them wrong.
When it comes to Kagurabachi, I can see some of the inspirations and even references within the panels themselves but I also see this strong unique direction that Hokazono has taken with his ideas that is starting to blossom into a great story that I'm looking forward to continue reading.
The current arch so far has been incredible, Hokazono stepped up even more so and I can see his future being a bright one if he keeps this up, 38 straight chapters and each one delivered on what it wanted to do, I don't really have any complaints about this manga yet.
The fact I can see the growth in how much better the art is getting, alongside panel composition and general storytelling, it get's me a bit attached to this story.
Kagurabachi also reminds of JJK's early days, and JJK reminded me of Bleach's early days, but not for that reason. People get it twisted. Kagurabachi and early JJK have the same *vibes* that Bleach and Naruto had. They're inspired sure, but they're the own creations and they understood the assignment. People notice that they give the same feelings of reading Bleach/Naruto back in the day and confuse that with being a copy. Like, nah, they feel like Bleach/Naruto because they're bangers like them
It definitely picks up after the Sojo fight, but I actually loved it when we're introduced to Char. Because up until then, Chihiro just seemed like your standard, edgy boi protagonist. It's not until we see how he acts around Char that we see that he's actually very warm and caring even if he still has that perpetually bored look on his face. This also shows why him and Hakuri get along almost instantly. Hakuri, who is earnest to a fault.

He's not Sasuke or not like Guts during the Black swordsman arc in 90s anime adaptation.
We clearly see in the flashback that he was always expressionless, even as a kid and he's clearly putting up a strong front to appear like that, when you see him interact with Mr Shiba.

In manga I like to think there are 2 categories, you got media and you got art. Media would be something like jjk while it does have a overarching message it’s really just about guys punching each other and that can be very fun but art would be something like berserk it’s not meant to be fun it’s meant to make you feel for guts. Kagurabachi edges the line between these two categories, while yes it isn’t very original it still conveys the authors message about how we should handle the use of weapons of mass destruction and the personal effects of these weapons have on people but at the same time haha fish go brr is very fun
