Not gonna lie, this would sell well as a NFT at this point
When your usb serial adapter is more powerful than the miner it's talking to 🙈
I was just wondering if that RPi Nano would mine faster than the Gameboy. But for bragging rights, the Gameboy is tops.

I love listening to these videos about messing with computers. It's like watching Telemundo and not knowing Spanish. You enjoy things outside the main conversation, like the visuals. You get happy when you hear a word you recognize, even thought the usage is probably different this time. All in all, a good experience.
"Very expensive hardware."
*Shows Gameboy*
Expensive
I mean, they do go for like $100 now
100 gameboys and 3ds
My gbc was $99 when my dad got it for me in 1999. For comparison my clear dmg og gameboy was $10 from a pawnshop at the same time... Ive bought others between then and 2005 for $3 including an unopened pokemon gbc... They are expensive now 😂 $100-250 is alot for not much
11 years ago this would been a little bit harder since the rpi pico would have needed to be substituted with something more traditional, but the funny thing is that the difficulty was at times so low that it would have been actually possible to mine a block (then worth 50BTC) with just a Game Boy.

This needs a sequel where you implement Minecraft for Game Boy and make that run a Bitcoin miner on Redstone.
Very reasonable expectations and I will be angry if he doesn't follow through
To complete the trilogy, he needs to make a simulation of a Game Boy, in the Redstone computer, in Minecraft, on the Game Boy, and have it mine Bitcoin.

@@KingGisInDaHouse lol
Very cool.
Just FYI the target is encoded in the blockheader in nBits format, so you didn't really need the PC to send both. Also when using the nBits you don't really need to deal with 256 bit integers to expand it out since the format's "exponent" is base 256... meaning you can just shift the position in the byte array where you write the mantissa (the remaining 3 bytes of the nBits)

Fun Fact: Bitcoin in these days is just about getting a new alltime high; I'm glad being invested :)
Btw since the halving in May 2020, one block meanwhile gets rewarded with only 6.25 bitcoin instead of 12.5 - just as a small correction on the outdated info in the video.

Now you gotta get it set up to mine less difficult coins to see if they'll pay for the batteries to run the thing hahaha. Excellent work, super interesting, and probably the most clear rundown on how to mine that I've ever seen

Miners once all the graphics cards in circulation get sold
Necessity is the mother of innovation
By that point, mining will probably crash again, but it seems like there's a never ending cycle. :D
GPU aren't even useful for bitcoin mining becouse ASICS exist they more used for mining ethereum or other coins that are asic resistant
I’m on standby to sell my gameboy to the highest bidder miner.
@@KeinNiemand that doesn't change the fact that miners still buy up all the GPUs for mining other coins other than bitcoin.

Imagine if it just by random chance happened to actually find a valid block with that hashrate :'v
With a non-random nonce?
Not a single chance, a single miner in the world with a sequencial nonce would be able to submit the valid block before the GB had the time to send it.
[EDIT] I was wrong because every miner must provide its own solution. The same nonce won't give the same answer for two miners.
Fun story : a digital newspaper once proposed to readers to mine crypto while reading articles as an example... To their surprise, they did snatch a few unexpected coins and gave the value to charity.
(It was before hackers noticed that nothing forced to actually *ask* the users if they wanted to lend their machine to mine...)
This is not how it works, as the stuff you are hashing is unique to you (you put your reward address in the block)
@@stacksmashing
Oops, thought the reward was somehow tied after solving the previous block (which would be stupid in hindsight...)
Damn now I gotta find a Gameboy that’s in stock.

AA batterris are expensive. Even assuming hardware would be free (e.g. you bought CPU and GPU for gaming) the consumer electrical energy price for consumers "anywhere" in the world is to high to make profit.
