- The 2021 GMC Yukon and the 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe offer the same powertrains, but they differ in design graphics.
The 2021 Tahoe and Yukon wheelbases are five inches longer than in previous generations. It’s up from 116.0 inches to 120.9 inches. They also gain in overall length by six inches from 204 inches in the previous models to 210.7 inches in the new.
Both the GMC Yukon and the Chevy Tahoe get the same 10-speed automatic transmission with three engine choices.
The base power plant is a 5.3-liter V-8 putting out 355 horsepower and 383 lb-ft of torque. In addition to that there’s also a 6.2-liter V-8 producing 420 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque.
The third available engine is a turbo-diesel 3.0-liter inline-six with 277 horsepower and an impressive 460 lb-ft of torque.
The GMC gets a more advanced drive system compared to the Tahoe which includes an electronic limited-slip differential that is exclusive to the Yukon.

I actually like the Yukon better. While it may not have the line flow of the Tahoe, the appearance is much bolder which is fitting for an SUV this size.
The design is ass backwards lol
Hear me out the Yukon looks manly the Tahoe looks like a soccer mom suv. The Yukon looks boxie and bold almost like a bus....intimidating. The Tahoe's front looks aggressive but less intimidating.
Agree 100%. I don't care for the more rounded, "softer" look of the Chevy vs the GMC.
I definitely choose the exterior styling of the Tahoe and the interior styling of the Yukon
@@ivancedillo8 You nailed it. I love the exterior of the Tahoe Z71. But I spend more time inside the SUV so Denali will be my choice again.
I never thought I would be so impressed with someones skill in quickly drawing straight lines...
😂
Interesting breakdown. Between the two, I feel that Yukon has a more elegant look to it probably because of all the Chrome you get on the Denali. For me the Tahoe has a little more of a sporty look to it especially with the RST package. That's the one I prefer. I'm not really into the chrome as much as I used to. If money were no option though and I was looking for elegance I think I would bypass the Yukon and go right for the Escalade though. Just my opinion.
The Yukon is the best in style. I've seen them both in person, and the yukon wins every time for me.
Pretty much everything he doesn’t like about the Yukon is why I prefer the Yukon over the Tahoe 😂
Same. It’s the reason why I bought the Yukon. The first time I saw the front end I had to have it.
Agree, love my 2022 Yukon XL, the front end is what sold me on it compared to the Suburban
Exactly !
The Yukon is better looking in my opinion.
Yea but tahoe premier 2022 is way better
Exactly 💯💯 Yukon looks way better nd more agressive
I just received my 2021 satin steel Z71 Tahoe!!And pictures aren’t enough. GM did great here in my opinion 👍 💙
We love our white 2021 z71.
I’m a Chevy sales manager. I’ll be buying the Yukon.
@silent sir lol. Couldnt find a Yukon. Got a suburban instead.
@silent sir I thought so. Still funny though!
Yukon Denali rules
Why? Can you explain ? Please
Why?
I personally think the Yukon is a whole lot better looking in the front AND the rear
Disagree, that is the old style for a grill. The off road version design of the Yukon is far better in my opinion than the Denali
I currently drive a 2004 GMC Yukon Denali, it’s something about the new ones with that huge grill that keeps my attention
@gabriel 😮😮😂😂
I have had four tahoes and loved them all. Hoping to buy a new one for 2024.
Between the 3 GM models the Yukon is the only one that kept its identity, just an even more bolder version of it's previous self. As for Tahoe and Cadillac front fascias changed completely, yes, but their new designs played it safe (ironically it's because of those forced connecting lines that you love that makes them slightly boring). They look just alike especially at night the headlamps are identical, the horizontal grills, the lol "Connecting lines"... Neither one have fog lamps granted Escalade never did, the only difference is that one has an inverted C shape LED daytime running and the other goes straight down which always been the Escalade's signature as a replacement fog lamp so that's understood. I love that the Yukon kept their daytime running lamp as a part of the headlamp housing. Infact there's nothing going on up top for the Tahoe nor the Escalade. And if you go to the rear neither one did much: the tail lights for the Tahoe looks like an aftermarket you can throw on a 2014-2020(lol they're going to), and the Cadillac is virtually unchanged. The Yukon on the other hand completely redesigned theirs and can't be mimicked by the previous generation. P.S. I HATE seeing Escalade tail lights on a tahoe or yukon!!! So I'm so glad Yukon separated itself from that rear look all together Great Job GMC! I know this is a comparison between tahoe and yukon but in full context you can't ignore that Chevy obviously was cheating off of Cadillac for their 2021 design ideas... Sorry, but that alone is too cheesey to ever declare the Tahoe a better Design over the Yukon. Their design is not even theirs 🤷🏾♂️...
Well I have a 2010 Cadillac Escalade and I love it. Someone made a comment that the Escalade doesn't have fog lights and they do. I owned Tahoe's before moving to the Escalade. I would prefer the Tahoe. I felt like the Tahoe was always a tough vehicle and I would drive my Tahoe's over rough dirt roads where my sister lives and I can't do that in the Escalade. If I had the money, I would probably go for a Tahoe. It would be a hard decision. The inside of the GMC, I LOVE the placement of the a/c vents. On the Tahoe they are lower down and I have to have air conditioning blowing in my face and I don't see that happening with the Tahoe. Plus the steering wheel design is the most important. Due to my medical condition, I have to be able to drive with a 4 prong steering wheel that I can drive in the 5/8 position because I can't hold my arms up in the 10/2 position. I would have to go with the Tahoe.
🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉Well written and Sooo Right! 😂🎉
Wow! I thought that I was the only one who cared about or even noticed things like this. You’ve got a new subscriber!
I have a Yukon and I LOVE it! My Yukon has a distinct presence when I look at it and handles the road well and powers through snow here I Maryland and makes me feel safe hauling my kids and their friends.
Which trim do you have? I think the SLT is perfect.
@@MrNurse-cr1lq I sort of Frankenstein'd my Yukon. It's officially an SLT but I have the Denali grill and paid a la carte for some other Denali features. One of my friends suggested this as he had done so for his Sierra pickup truck and it still came put cheaper than getting a Denali.
@@TheDivaIsIntheDetails that’s the way to go! What other options besides the grill did you do? Also did you get it from the dealership?
@@MrNurse-cr1lq yes, ordered from a dealer in southern Illinois called Laura Buick. Rear seat heating, rear entertainment TV and video games with two controllers, bose stereo 10 speakers surrpund sound, touch screen navigation with intellilink, wireless charging for cell phones, garage door opener, lane assist, and the interior lighting is upgraded. My kids said we also have more outlets to plug devices than other SLTs but I would need to verify that with a neighbor
@@TheDivaIsIntheDetails yeah that’s tons of options! I’m sure it looks great!
I’ve owned both and loved both equally.
I will say, that the only Yukon I like is the Denali model. The Denali grill has always looked sharp compared to the rest of the Yukon lineup, and has for many years. My eyes always go straight to that grill and I love the way it looks.
I currently have 2021 Tahoe Premier, and in my opinion, it’s my favorite Tahoe/Yukon/Suburban I’ve ever owned. I chose the Tahoe over the Yukon this time around because I like the looks of the Tahoe front end over the Yukon. The front end looks terrific on the Tahoe. As much as I love the Yukon Denali, I thought the Tahoe looked better.
Interior, I’ve always liked the Denali over the Tahoe as well. In this case, it wasn’t enough to sway me back towards the Yukon. So I ordered my Premier package with every option I could get. I wanted the 5.3L because of the fuel economy. I miss the power of the 6.2L though, but it’s nice paying less for fuel and getting 22mpg in a full size SUV. The next Yukon or Tahoe I end up with, I’ll probably go back to the 6.2L, or, I might give the Duramax diesel a shot. I haven’t driven one, so I’m curious how it matches compared to the gas engines.
Great review! I love both these rigs and you can’t go wrong with either.
Have the 6.2 engine and get 22 city and 30 on a long trip.
Unfortunately that lifter problem is a real problem and had the lifters replaced three times before 18,000 miles.
The big chrome grill on the GMC looks so bossy and menacing from the rear view in a good way. Both look good but it's the GMC for me.
I have a 2022 suburban RST Duramax diesel. Before that I have always on a Yukon Denali. Everything about these vehicles under the hood is the same. The Yukon has a diesel version as well I believe. It’s just a matter of what you like. I like the way the suburban looks this year compared to the way the Yukon looks this year. The Yukon is a lot more boxy and the suburban/ Tahoe More aerodynamic which I like. I don’t think you could go wrong with either of these vehicles.
You don’t need every line to connect to something…
I agree with that completely
Agreed, who cares if everything connects. I love the grill of the Yukon. The guys a cat guy so what can you expect. Lol The Tahoes front end is not elegant at all. This guy is whack
I'll take the Yukon for fog lamps, alone.
I have the older 2018 Tahoe with Yellow amber Fog Lights, with 22" rims
this is why you have fans of one brand over another. Personally when I look at the 2 I prefer the Yukon or Sierra because of the way it looks.
yukon always feels richer than a tahoo in overall nd definitely from the inside . but tahoo is always marketed alot more .. i think you should have compared the regular gmc rather than its denali
I’ll take the Tahoe. For me I like it’s lines better and it’s a bit cheaper than the gmc for the same drive train and engine options.
I bought the Tahoe Z71...I could not see pay an extra $10,000 for the AT4.
I think this is the first time I have completely disagreed with you.
I've a 2017 Tahoe, love ❤️ it. Looking forward to getting a sooner model
If the Yukon offered a sports trim like the Tahoe RST then I might lean towards the Yukon, but GM won't go this route due to the Escalade having this trim already. The massive chrome grill and the extra led lights on the tailgate are a no go for me. Overall the Tahoe just looks better IMO.
Yeah agreed, there's just something about Chevys that I find more appealing to look at than say GMCs. GMC follows the basic and boring recipes to design language, whereas Chevy has a more unique, futuristic, aggressive, downright badass "street performance" look. Which I so happen to prefer.
@@dallasfrost1996 A réal street performance look would be the 2000-2006 Tahoe or 2015-2020.
The Yukon looks 10 times better than the Tahoe, it's not even close.
The GMC looks way better with much cleaner fit and finish
Having seen them in person, the Yukon wins all day
who cares if the lines connect or not...The Yukon looks way better...
I like the continuation of the chrome grill surround on the Yukon. Functionally the chrome across the front edge of the hood protects from stone chips.
Who gives a crap about the lines? Gmc looks better here. Tahoe needs fog lights. Both nice but Yukon is what I’ll be buying.
The Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban, the GMC Yukon and Yukon XL, and the Cadillac Escalade account for 50% of all large SUV sales in the US. GM makes 340,000 of them every year and exports about 80,000 to 31 countries. They’re made in GM’s plant in Arlington, Texas, which is said to be the most profitable assembly plant in the world. We estimate they generate $20 billion in revenue for GM and about $4 billion in profits. Autoline Daily.
Yet they can’t make them reliable like the older generations SMH
@@ozzy6994 they do make them complex today. Not to say they are unreliable but probably match the luxury car segment.
I love a big grill! That’s what attracted me to the Yukon! That might be the key feature for me that determines which one I get!
I got the wife Yukon SLT opted for black premium rims wrapped ALL the chrome black. All her girlfriends want a Yukon now they own 2021 Tahoes and love her Yukon more mind you they have RST versions Z71s. Bucket seats mid row, tvs, panoramic sunroof great tech its a good school bus for us hers is not a XL. WE like it
Hands down Yukon! Lines don’t matter.
I got my Tahoe Blackout Package its a beast
Bro you just said everything I was thinking! I couldn’t put it in words but I wasn’t feeling the grill on the new Denali. The off-road looks much better like you said. Good stuff.
The Yukon front end looks much better than the Tahoe. I’ve owned both and I have received far more compliments on the looks of the Yukon.
the deign of the headlights match the grill, it has symmetry so it doesn't need flow
i have a 2017 TAHOE - i Prefer the Rear FULLY BOXED VERSION LED Tail Light compared to 2021 Tahoe T - Style LED
I have a 2017 also. I’m trying to adjust my eye to the new style Tahoe. It’s hard for me because I like boxy styles.
I have a 2017 as well; summit white and really like it, particularly the boxy look. Seems like all SUV’s have taken on a jelly bean look which is where the new Tahoe seems to be headed.;
I have 2024 Tahoe Premier blacked out, I think Tahoe looks better in every angle. Thank you
Ordered the suburban RST Duramax. Seems like a winning combo.
This generation’s Denali grill is one of the best designs in suvs all time
I’m just reading the comments, but the problem I have is that he compared a RST to a Denali, my uncle has a Denali xl and in some angles it looks weird but the Tahoe looks good at all angles…
These are not off road vehicles ever they are at best off on gravel roads. It’s a mini van on steroids.
Please can you have a look at the mk4 pajero, it was never sold in America but I think it’s front stance and no nonsense design make it interesting one for you to look at
Forget about ‘line flow’ the Yukon is beautiful.
Yukon front end looks wayyyy better. I think all the new chevy front ends look stupid IMO. Thays why i switched to gmc for my last 2 vehicles
The Yukon reminds me of the new F-150, especially with the headlights. I would prefer the Chevy tbh. But I'm not a huge fan of either
The new f150 that copies the 2018 GMC design
You're sooooo focused on the visuals. That's highly subjective and something I can determine for myself.
Love your vids! Thanks for the good content :)
I don't like the front on the Tahoe at all. Yukon is so much better looking
We get it… you like the Tahoe 😂 your opinion is super bias! The flow of the Yukon is “C” AS IN GMC. You’re thinking symmetrical. Conclusion: You like the Tahoe! Thank you! More Yukon/Denali’s for us.
I am more than happy whit my GMC Yukon SLT, three months in my garage, it drives great and it is beautiful, for my taste looks way better than the Chevy Tahoe, which by the way I also own a 2015 Tahoe with 112,000 miles ,I love it ,but my new Yukon is much better.
The Tahoe looks much nicer, especially from the rear. GMC looks kind of odd front and back.. i like the Tahoe better than the escalade as well, especially from the back
The Yukon feels intimidating and that's what it should give the disunity may add to that essence.
I like things that are low-key but classic’ and very modern at the same time it’s like wearing a tuxedo or nice suit and The will be TAHOE” nice 👍🏽 suit and a Taxedo’will be a Yukon, anyway they’re both beautiful trucks.MAGA 2024”USA 🇺🇸
5:00 you can't tell me that the tahoe doesn't look like a toy sitting next to the mean looking denali
Man ... give it a shot ... redesign both 👍🏼
Definitely am a GMC fan on my forth GMC pickup. But the cost of these vehicles is getting outrageous 😢
Why can't Chevy make a damn street truck anymore?!!!!!!!!! NOT everyone is not a damn hunter!!!!
I must say, I think I agreed with every point. Although, on the Tahoe, the skidplate should be optional and a beefy bumper put in its place. For those not doing offloading, and just keeping the family safe. Well done.
Offroading*
I like the sleek look of the Tahoe better
Yukon looks so much better IMO
Although interesting, your line analysis really doesn't matter. People don't think about this stuff and will decide which looks better for themselves.
💯
Who really considers line flow as a deciding factor when buying a vehicle!
Only the biggest fudgepackers care about "line flow" like wtf. I never knew people even cared about these stuff lol. Yukon front end looks better while Suburban look better at the rear.
Tahoe looks like a HOnda Pilot. I choose Denali everytime. although I think the grill pattern on the GMC could be improved, looks a bit cheap
Your LONG ramble on the continuity of lines, highlighted by your red marker, was incomprehensible. We can look at both and decide which is "ART". We don't don't have to be lectured at by you....I want to know the mechanical differences, if any. This is meant to be a functional vehicle. Don't give me lectures on YOUR view of art and design.
Yukon looks better
Isn't the question a money thing? You got the money, get Denali Ultimate...or venture into Escalade Kingdom. If not financially comfortable, a good Tahoe will do just great. That is what it really comes down to. No super rich men are driving or being driven in Tahoes. They are for us.
If you look at the back at 1:15 and those suspension bars next to the back wheels I would think would be horrible for off roading cause you loose ground clearance and thats on all the new chevy and gmc SUVs and even if you lift it, those suspension bar will still be low to the ground
Why does GM sell the same car under 3 different names
Because it's cheaper and uses less resources and also because gm
Because it's GM. They've been doing in for 50 years or more.
money
Because they are rich and far more advanced than ford
🤷🏽 it's typical of GM. They've been doing this since the original Suburban.
I prefer the 4th gen Tahoe, it has a more boxy design, which makes it looks more luxurious and imposing.
IMO, the third gen is even better.
I agree
Agreed.
GMT400?
I like the look of the front end of the Yukon BETTER 😎😎😎
Luxury goes with GMC. Physicality of the Vehicle goes with Tahoe.
Great video and details, but I totally disagree with you , i prefer Yukon apperance
I personally like the Denali front end. Denali has always made the massive grill it’s #1 feature and it goes very well with the headlights/LEDs despite no true line flow. I think the Tahoe front end is pretty sick as well except for the off-road version in the z71. I think the AT4 front end wins in this department. The z71 looks wide and short because of the grill design whereas the AT4 still looks stacked tall. This is obviously a personal preference. Also a bit biased because we have a 22 AT4 on order. GM did very well in this segment. I am not a fan of the Expedition other than blacked out versions. And honestly I’m tired of caring for black cars…
He loves Tahoe for sure
TAHOE Z71 kills every other Tahoe model and Yukon model. That front grill Z71 is so fucking badass. It’s just SICK! Everyone is drooling over it. There’s like 2 left in Dallas. But plenty of Yukons Lolol.
I sell Chevy’s so I’m a little biased but it’s a tough decision out of the Z71 and AT4 both are 🔥
What is amazing is that a Tahoe High a country and a Yukon Denali minus options come very close to each other in pricing. Does dealer experience in one vs. other make a difference?
Thanks for posting. Thinking hard about a AT4 Yukon.
The 2022 Z71 now comes with the ELSD that was previously only available in the AT4
A good friend of mine traded in his 2014 f150 king ranch and 2015 Mercedes for a 2021 Yukon Denali and still pays over $1200 a month. Crazy expensive. But man it’s a hell of a SUV
I love both of them
The Tahoe "Premier" has many more standard features than the Yukon, which one cannot get unless buying the way more expensive "Denali" model Yukon for those features ! Those standard features with the "Premier" is the two speed axle on the 4 X 4 model, 10 speaker centerline system "Bose" radio, a moveable center console system for the back row passengers, a duel exhaust system.
I thought the Yukon had better engine options, a unique engine plant only available in the Yukon.
Same engines 5.3, 6.2 or the diesel 3.0
Yukon
I like the Tahoe
That black front end on the Yukon sucks. The chrome looks better. It's a luxury SUV, not a hot rod. But that's just my opinion and you are certainly welcome to yours.
GMC And Tahoe
I like chevy trucks and cars.. just saying thinking of getting a new truck soon just don't know to get maybe a tahoe..
Aren’t they the same everything just a grill pretty much like I’m sure a Yukon door will fit on a Tahoe or vice versa especially from 2021 to 2024
I'd pick Tahoe❤
I only saw the Tahoe, the only thing I dont like about it is the rear fender and rear bumper, I would prefer a more flush rear end, is the rear bumper on the Yukon the same as the Tahoe?
Holy crap. Thank you so much for letting me know some styling lines don't mate up. Whooo. I almost made a purchase but this revelation saved me years of hardship. So...so...thankful you are on your toes and sharing this stuff with us.
I have a 2018 Tahoe.
New one Missing FOG LIGHTS!!!
Missing LED Signal Lamps.
Missing Secret Storage Compartment behind Led Screen.
I have just always disliked the halogen taillights around the LED
I just traded my 21 Tahoe LT for a 22 GMC YUKON XL AT4 😂 I have both on my channel btw but dude, great video and spot on about the Denali! That's why I bought a Tahoe first then went a got an AT4 next!
I have a 2021 Tahoe and for the regular front ends, I like the Tahoe over the Yukon, never been a fan of that giant chrome front end. Now when it comes to the AT4 vs the Z71, the AT4 is the winner hands down for appearance as well as having a more capable 4WD system.
Not anymore for 2022 you can option the same magna ride + air ride that’s in the at4 on the z71
The main flaw of the Z71 and the AT4 for medium or heavy offroad use is the design of the rear independent suspension. Suspension arms are way too close to the ground and very exposed to eventual damages.
Tahoe/Yukon.twins and Expedition Timberline fail in that sector compared to the Toyota Sequoia TRD.
