The news about that Lugia hurts me! I pulled the 1st Edition as a kid in my first Neo Genesis pack, but it was lost at some point and hasn't turned up since. I know it wouldn't be $10k material in its condition, but it would still be hundreds.

lol that's okay, a lot of cards I had when they first came around are missing and or stolen. I still don't know where my Venasaur, Mewtwo, Machamp and various other cards went.
I had all my foils together so I don't know why some of my foils are in fact missing. xD

Beckett Grading:
Charizard with missing pieces on surface: 8
Prestine Chansey with no visible marks or oil stains: 9

Beckett is so inconsistent with their grades below 9/9.5. Smpratte explains and uses PSA in comparison.
That charizard grading is bad... I mean good for him but just wow that makes their service look so questionable. It’s like they refused to give him the 10 for Chansey knowing it’d be the first of its kind so as a consultation prize they upped the charizard lol.
Beckett seems like a joke to me. Old cards get 9.5 automatically if they're perfect, seemingly regardless of how good they are. Meanwhile new cards get an auto 10 even with slight imperfections. It's like they care more about the year stamp on the card than the condition of the card. Oh and also a Charizard with visibly missing parts of the surface gets an 8 for surface.
@@westin556 Below 9.5 BGS is inconsistant, that's for sure. But Have you ever opened a 1st ed chansey ? It's nearly impossible to get 0 trace of printlines so 10 in surface GL for that on it, there are extremely few which got it. Pristine is extremely difficult on 1st ed and shadowless, no wonder why he didn't get it on a single copy, the card was far from getting it, stop seeing plots everywhere. Yes the charizard was overgraded and no the chansey didn't deserve pristine.

Leon, as someone that ships hundreds of packages through USPS I have also noticed an insane amount of items having long delivery times that have led me to often thinking my items have been lost. They've all ended up being delivered just wanted to give you some words of hope for your Charizard as it really is a unfortunate situation.

You do realize that he said that he decided to send in the charizard to PSA instead which is located in California while he's located in texas where Beckett happens to be. The cards shown in this video were all graded by Beckett so thats why he was able to drive them in. I don't understand how you would come to that conclusion?

You're helping me so much, I found a bunch of 1st edition shadowless cards at a thrift store last summer. Though they are all Japanese.... I never got into Pokémon back in the day but now I am learning so much!! Thanks for your wisdom & helping us all. Love your videos

Unfortunately, there is no such thing as Japanese shadowless cards, but what you probably have are 1996 Japanese base set cards. Still some of the coolest cards there are.

My guess is the grader gave your charizard a “3” on the surface but the person typing up the label couldn’t read it correctly and thought it was an “8” - resulting in the NM 7 grade. Congrats on all the awesome grades!

You should call it “grade my grade” and the closer u get u get to do like a reward or something like if u get a 10 and guess a 10 u can open a vintage pack, but if u guess a 10 and it’s like a 7 u can open a dollar store pack or something like that
Stumbled across a video of how you lost your good friend a few months shortly after high school. That hits at home extremely hard with me as one of my best friends took his own life as well just a couple years after high school. I as well do whatever I can to support NAMI and actually do a walk for them in downtown Phoenix every October. Either way after hearing this I couldn’t sympathize enough. Thank you for continuing to support NAMI and I’m also extremely sorry for your loss. Just after seeing that video you instantly gained another subscriber in me.
So proud of Leon and how far he's come. I know I'm only a recent subscriber but gee he's made some amazing pulls and some amazing grades. Proud to be part of the Hart Squad.
Even though I've thought their process was sketchy before from other youtubers returns vids. It seems like they just throw out a random number for all the sub-grades, how that Charizard got an 8 sub-grade on the surface but the flawless holo, straight from the pack, no printlines or scratches Chansey card you pulled got a 9 sub-grade. It makes my head spin trying to rationalize their thought process, that is assuming they even look at the cards for longer than 10 seconds each. I know it is subjective to a degree, but it's not cohesive what so ever when even slightly comparing the results. That main surface sub-grade is the worst offender I've seen.

I love this channel honestly, I don't collect cards, I haven't played Pokemon since Diamond version but I just love the enthusiasm and it's nostalgic so I'm watching a ton of these haha
In all honesty I would have not expected for that charizard to get such a good grade. If I was about to buy that card graded and I would receive a charizard as a grade 7 with those bend marks on its corners I would be extremely dissappointed. Other than that this video also shows that grading is really up to the person inspecting your card in the end, having a card graded as a 9 and then resending it for it to become a 9.5 is really just proof that this is a subjective thing altogether. I do have 2 graded cards myself which are not even close to those values shown in the video and yet I only have those as a nostalgic purpose and a gift given to me.
That being said the videos of you are really well done Leonhart and I do enjoy them a lot! I personally cannot afford those old boosters hence I enjoy to see other people being able to open those instead. I might get myself some evolution boosters next time around but those are expensive as a german version either way :|

Pretty convenient you live in the same city and can just drive over there whereas I've always been terrified to mail my most valuable cards to them when I've heard horror stories of them getting lost

I did my first send off to PSA back in May. I’m so excited to get it back. To me, there’s just something special about grading your own cards you pulled versus just buying graded cards
Finger prints effect the grades for surfaces it's why lots of people use gloves, psa ignores finger prints , Beckett sees them as defects.

Great vid! I’ve seen a lot of PSA returns vids but they are very samey. You’ve clearly put a lot of effort and editing into this and I really enjoyed the format! That Chansey is awesome. I think BGS are growing on me. They have better slabs.

Thanks so much for your help! ive been watcing your videos over the last few days trying to learn and understand how to prepare and get cards properly graded. I recently found my binder full of cards in the attic (from 1999-2000) and have been looking through them as well as learning about grading. I dont think i have any 10s or anything, but definitely some fun cards to grade and see how they come back. I'm still learning, but you have definitely helped me in getting started on my education for doing this. so Thank you.
The whole centering thing is really dumb in my eyes, its something that a normal person wouldnt even realize. Idk seems like taking conditions a bit too far
If it's not perfect then it shouldn't get a 10. If that's the only issue then a 9 is given. Otherwise by your logic we would have a flood of 10's making most if not every card worthless. Which defeats the purpose of getting it graded in the first place.
I find it stupid too. I find anything being graded that was beyond the owners control is pretty dumb.
@Admiral Kikan When you look at this from a business perspective, I totally get it. It's just that when people focus so much on making cards worth money, they treat these things as money bills and not nostalgic and meaningful cards. Stuff like scratches and surface problems are reasonable, but those who are almost invisible to the naked eye, or appear on the back of the cards, feel like overdoing it. Yes, it will make more cards 10, lowering their value, but it will upper the emotional value, cause now people won't feel like their very meaningful cards are flawed. It almost feels like a secret community has gathered to invent ways to differentiate cards and to make money of it, and now all of us have to search for invisible stuff that makes our cards inferior. It feels like we have gathered here, watching these videos, not to celebrate pokemon nostalgia and finding rare cards, but a search for something else.
I can't disagree, I just come from a different perspective and it's tilting to see that, that's all :)

I don’t think Becket even looked at the surface of that Charizard lol. It had several instances of where ffs surface was literally scratched off and it had long silver streaks if you flashed it correctly.
It's interesting that people compare BGS 9.5s to PSA 10s, and BGS 9s to PSA 9s. Over the years, with the thousands of graded cards I've had and/or analyzed very closely, it seems that 95% of the time, the BGS card is always in worse shape. To me, a BGS 9.5 is a PSA 9, and BGS 9 cards always look like PSA 7 or 8. So many BGS 9 cards with 5 or 6 white spots on the back edges, which always gets you a PSA 7 or 8. I think PSA grades cards actually more strictly and more correctly.

The Charizard is worth more ungraded. That one's definitely a PSA 2. 3 if very lucky, but they won't give a 3 to a card with a crease.

I like bgs gradings compare to psa. It just looks more official. And most collectibles are beckett-graded. I am glad you are now letting beckett grade your cards.
on the bulbasaur theres three things i thought it was. 1st was leech seed... i swore it was ivy slap or something like that lol 2nd i swore he had 2 ivy ropes coming from his body in the card picture. and 3. there was no resistance... now i could have sworn on my life i remember him having a water resistance since he is a "leaf" pokemon and water could only make make him stronger if anything... or the mandela effect is in full swing right now... lol

I find the card grading process really interesting and it's exciting to see the reveal of what you get back. I definitely think this series will be a great change of pace from the traditional openings!

I've recently acquired what I would guess to be a PSA 5 Base Set Charizard that I've been somewhat tempted to get graded, along with some older cards of mine.
