Not regulation per se, but loyalist James Potter of New York City produced large numbers of cavalry sabers (over 1,500 between 1778 and 1781) for Provincial cavalry. Captured Potter sabers proved so popular, the design was copied by James Hunter at the Rappahannock Forge. Other loyalist and whig cavalry would have been armed with whatever what at hand-civilian hunting swords or even naval cutlasses in the case of Ferguson's mounted men at King's Mountain.
Thank you. Very interesting and uncovered part of the American Revolution.
