  • Unboxing the new Google Pixelbook. The Pixelbook is Google's latest entry into the Chromebook space. It's got a premium build and premium price to match. The Pixelbook features a convertible design capable of switching between laptop, tent and tablet mode. Is the Pixelbook ready to stand up against the Macbook and the Microsoft Surface?

      Elliston James this isn't exclusively for Chrome, obviously. People spend well over that on iPads quite regularly. I feel it should also be acknowledged that the continuously growing and updating capabilities of new Android OS devices makes it a very appealing option over a dedicated laptop which runs Windows or Mac's latest OS and has some obvious gaps in syncing abilities with your phone (maybe not the case with Mac-iPhone scenarios, but for the money, you could do better). This is a marketing technique yes but it's far from impractical at this price point

      $1300 to $2100 canadian for a laptop that does nothing but use the internet and can run android, but almost no apps are supported by the pixelbook yet.

  • @chronos4573

    Yes, this replaced my windows laptop and my android tablet and I'm never looking back. I ordered a I7 pixelbook and pixel 2 phone and the pen. If your lifestyle allows you the budget, go for it. I can edit and generate all my MS Office documents through Google docs and they convert into the format i need at my office. When i go through airports, it's easier to go through the checkpoints with such a slim and light device. By the way, I kept my Microsoft Arc Touch Mouse from my old HP laptop. The MS Touch Arc Touch mouse turns off when you fold it flat and it mates perfect with the Pixelbook and has the similar material surfaces and colors. I use the google pen when i'm in tablet mode and the Microsoft mouse when actually doing productivity. Despite all these peripherals, the glass touchpad works perfectly. When I'm airborne on a flight, I just use the glass trackpad for tight spaces. Remember this device now operates both android and chrome apps.

    I’m actually thinking about switching from Apple to Google devices due to Apple’s pricing policy. It’s getting ridiculous. I bought my MacBook Pro like 5 years ago for $1,500 and it’s still good as it was in the beginning. And now I want to get a newer machine, but if I want to purchase a MBP with kinda same characteristics [Intel Core i7, 8GB of RAM, 256GB SSD], then I need to pay more than $2,000.
    The only disadvantage of this laptop is that it runs on Chrome OS, which lots of software is not compatible with. But maybe a year or two and we will see.

  • @viniciuspeluqui1040
    @viniciuspeluqui1040 Před 6 lety +26

    • @timothylee6782
      @timothylee6782 Před 6 lety +1

      As someone who owns a pixelbook and the pen: It's great..... when you have the right software. Squid is a notetaking app that is the fastest I have seen for this particular pen. I use Adobe Sketch, which is nicer for more preffessional drawings, and it is a little slower than squid, but deffinitely serviceable. ( As a side note, because of chrome os there are small swipe up and swipe down motions from the top and bottom of the screen. The bottom one can be dismissed with a swipe down, but when you accidently brush your hand over the top of the screen a little bar shows up blocking some tools on the apps. This one cannot be dissmissed and can be annoying if you accidently swipe it when drawing things on adobe sketch. It will eventually go away, but still annoying) Otherwise, most drawing apps resize excellently to fit the 3:2 ratio. Also, the more time passes, the more software will be able to catch up, making the pixelbook a lot more useful further down the line. ( I would reccomend the 12.9 inch ipad with the apple pencil if you want to focus on drawing, same price, and I've used it from a friend, works just the same if not a little bit better). Of course if you can't stand not having a keyboard or don't like using ios (those are the reasons I didn't buy the ipad) I think the pixelbook would be a good buy.
      TLDR: It works great with adobe sketch and squid, but don't buy it if drawing is the only thing your gonna be doing on it, the software is not quite there.
      Hopefully this was helpfull

    • @leathan7
      @leathan7 Před 6 lety +2

      TLDR: No.
      DISCLAIMER: If your first thought is "root", "jailbreak", "dev mode", "(cr|h)ack", etc.... my answer would probably change to a "Yes.". (but you pay in time).
      Its a shitty end-user experience (unless you have some hacker get all your tools (hack android/remove it) working). I mean the entire reason my posts are all so bad sounding is because its literally just alphabet inc rerolling a wrapper around an existing product to get around its licensing to make money solving problems that dont need to be solved.... Hence why for example my brother (an artist) can only use the pixelbook to run adobe photoshop and the few other programs i got for him AFTER i used it.
      Worse yet if I were to just give my brother (five star rated artist at upwork/freelancer) my pixelbook BEFORE i used it he would end up spending multiple hundreds of dollars then come to the conclusion "it cant be done" when really it can be done with 0 new source code and 0 new dollars. I think you get the point lol.

    • @leathan7
      @leathan7 Před 6 lety +3

      TLDR: Chrome OS is a HUGE vegetable.
      The first thing i do when i get new androids is block all updates (forced OTAs or not).
      If I dont do that then google breaks everyones code on purpose... In fact my android 2.3 device is currently more powerful than my android 8.1 device just because google's newer API's are so bloated and restricted lol.

    • @leathan7
      @leathan7 Před 6 lety +2

      yes wtf... are you even using your pixelbook in developer mode?..... I just assume people dont use sheep mode I guess.. (for obvious reasons)
      Its my favorite device and yes its a total fucking useless vegitable unless your willing to hack at android.
      I would never recommend this device at present moment, in the future I probably will, for the same underlying reasons old devices are often more practically powerful ;)
      Your welcome ;)

    • @perry22131
      @perry22131 Před 6 lety

      mridul chopra, the bezels are that thick for tablet purposes. Hefty price, but considering we pay that for a smart phone nowadays, we might as well get used to all these price bumps.

      Thousands of people in the media get these devices to review, big whoop. I think Lou is fairly neutral unless something is exceptionally good or bad. All he really did was explain the use case of the device and point out the positive points of the device. Remember this is "Unbox Therapy" not "Review Therapy".
