    In answer to the question .... "YES!!!". I tried to pick one up at the initial delivery price of $3995 but I never was able to do so. Last Thursday, I ordered one from Sweetwater Sound (apparently the privileged "distributor") for $4995. That is the most I've ever spent on one synthesizer. My wife asked me, why?"", and the first thing that came to my mind in answer to her was "This is the first time since the Kurzweil K2000 that a synth has ever spoken to me". I had a PPG Wave 2.2 in by studio, that was purchased by a guy who was working with me at the time. It remained there for well over a year, and I played with it quite a bit. When the other guy finished grad school and move across the country he took the PPG with him. That was over 25 years ago. Often, I would find myself in a creative process where I wished that I had access to the PPG again. Originally, when I heard some of the first demos of the 3rd Wave, I was impressed at how much more it sounded like a PPG 2.2 than does the Waldorf "M", or even the Waldorf Quantum (I tried the "M' when It became available and I now have a Quantum as well as an Iridium Keyboard in my studio. Neither can produce sounds that are remotely close to a PPG Wave. Last week, after I heard about Waldorf's impending release of the Quantum 2, I needed to decide whether I would buy a 3rd Wave or a Quantum 2. Even at that time, I was pretty convinced I'd get the 3rd Wave. Then I got to hear Dan Fischer's (Sweetwater) 40-minute improvisation on the 3rd Wave. About ten minutes into the video realizes that I really needed this synth.

    • @xiaoxia5
      @xiaoxia5 Před rokem

    Well, A few nights ago I decided to really look into it.
    I gotta say, it’s really itching! I can’t ignore it. What a brilliant creation.
    I hope groove synthesis sells enough of these to move on to more affordable instruments with this quality.

    Thanks Miles! This synth is checking so many boxes it seems to me. 61 keys with aftertouch, great UI, retro/modern sounds, great build quality, now will be available in local stores (!), great analog filter. Only one question remains - will it mix well, like a Prophet 5, in context? I am saving and consigning gear to make this a possibility if I go this route. Seems very close to an all-rounder that covers many Poly bases.

    • @MilesAwayOfficial
      @MilesAwayOfficial  Před rokem +1

      Thanks for watching! Honestly, this synth mixes in super well, as long as you are patient with the gain staging side of things (check that section in the video). You can make it as bright, dark, clean, distorted - anything - as you want, once you get a feel for how that section works. That's what I love about it. It naturally tends to go crispy/PPG-ish (which is my fave sound usually), but its super easy to get it to hide underneath a mix with a darker sound if you just crank the saturation and turn on wave smoothing. You won't be disappointed!

    • @Ojref1
      @Ojref1 Před 5 měsíci

      Something added static to to the loudest transients in a digital piano track I just uploaded tonight. That happens every so often, and I wasn't bumped right up against 0dB. I think for most uploads it doesn't matter, but for audio that's closer to some edge case (I'm not sure which those are) YT can mess with the audio. A couple uploads ago, I posted some experimental track with TONS of masking, which really screwed with YT... The masking was fairly drastic yet balanced between the sources, and it seemed like YT was going back and forth between which part it would emphasize I'm the compression, and it sounds even wackier than my wav! But I don't care - it was an experiment. Moral of the story: just because Starsky can make patches wherev2 synths sound identical, doesn't mean all of their patches can sound identical. This is similar - most of my uploads sound identical between wav and YT, except for the volume normalization. But occasionally they don't match up. Usually it's added distortion around the peaks or the de-emphasis of a masked sound that actually WAS contributing to what you'd hear.

    Hello miles away,
    i hope you are doing well. I am happy to see your channel is growing. Even if i am not fully into your music i have full respect for your musical output and point of view.
    Your channel is quite new and your path is still not written in stone. So here comes criticism just because i think you are able to do things differently cause i still believe in you.
    Please don't fall off the cliff and don't walk the same path than all the other big synth tuber. You can do better for the sake of music art.
    At the moment your concept is standart and the loss of substance is at the horizon.
    At the moment you do just what every big synthtuber does.
    What do you expect for the future?
    Do you want to release a video every week, showing something new? Never showing it again or just to compare it with something new?
    The dream of having dozens of synth and a lot of equipment which makes you happy is just a romantic fantasy. Owning a lot is a dark path like jexus said. Owning a lot of synth stuff doesn't make you happy and you will definitly loose focus.
    You could go this route. Companys may send you synth for a review and your studio will grow and grow....
    Always something new to show is a bad fundament for you as an artist and youtuber.
    You just have a short period of time for every synth before going on to the next one.
    That doesn't fit. I see it in your videos that you have your own kind of taste for sweetspots and you show them very explicit and authentic. That is something you developed over time while exploring your instruments again and again.
    This route you are driving at the moment, i am afraid to say, will freeze your skill development and also your development as an artist. So it will go in reverse: equipment changes and you stay the same. Or this is the direction at least.
    How much time do you have?
    Spending 1 hour with one synth or 5 minutes with 12?
    That is a huge part of the fun playing a synthesizer! Exploring it. Finding secrets and create something unique, own and special.
    THAT NEEDS TIME.
    How crazy is it to release a video of a synth just released trying to show its full glory? Ambivalent?
    Did you recognize that the best and most special demos of synth come from noname youtuber with just a few hundred or thousend abonnements? And the big ones are technically good made visual content but all samey, samey and boring.
    So.
    It seems like the big ones are synth experts but they are just ordinary people lost in GAS where it is way more important what you making music/sounds with than (how) you making it.
    Look at ricky tinez for example. There is nothing left to say but he has to it seems.
    I really think at the beginning it is very nice but it transforms into a grudge more and more.
    And if you aren't happy with just getting in contact with new synth again and again, you are fckd.
    So i hope you could do something else than just showing new stuff. I hope that you can show why synth are beautiful. What you can do with it.
    The soul of the machine. There secrets. That the question if a synth is still relevant is stupid. That a nice base sound of a synth is just one side of the coin. That the player is more important than the machine and that you can't buy creativity and skills.
    It is obvious that the big ones stealing ideas from small creators and copying each other. When it becomes a job and you are known for something it can get difficult. Also if you are very true to your opinion about something your opinion has much more weight for the people. And some companys appreciate that.
    If there is something there is always something not.
    You don't have to do it this way is all i want to say. Of course you can if you want to.
    But i am very sure you are able to do it differently. Your very own way. For the sake of music art we all felt in love with.
    This whole influencer shit isn't really what art is about. It is the contrary!
    This is new in the synth domain but look at the fashion industry for example. Is this what we want? (Also fashion is art i mean but for the most part it is something else)
    superficiality?
    Love goes out and best regards.

      Appreciate the comment and feedback Markus. I think where I have to be honest with you is I that unlike a lot of synthfluencers, I do the CZcams thing casually for fun- my artist project releasing music as Miles Away on labels / etc has always been my main professional niche and where I make income from my music.
      So I guess that is to say, I definitely don’t ever want to come across as someone fake jumping from one piece of gear to the next, and I also don’t just cover “gear”. If you actually look at a lot of my videos there a lots of creative tutorials, teaching videos, deep dives into sound design, etc. Sadly those never do very well on CZcams- the algorithm only seems to like my videos on new gear! So take a look back at those videos I think you will enjoy them, and I can also promise you I have some future videos on different things besides the latest synths. I just happen to be a total synth nerd (like everyone here) so I can’t help covering new stuff when it really appeals to me, hah.

    With regard to Con #4- the way to get around that is to assign a modulator to the same destination TWICE, so that you would have (for example) Mod Wheel assigned to LFO 1 Frequency on two separate lines in the Mod Matrix, with an amount of 127 each. I think in terms of hybrid synths that can go toe to toe with analogs for sound quality, the UDO super6 is in this class as well. I own one and I don't want for sound quality. Now, multiple outputs, multi-timbrality, full wavetables, and 4x the voices certainly mean the 3rd wave is going to do things the Super6 just isn't... the base sound isn't an issue though. It's better than my $99 Reveal Spire VST which is spectacular, but it's not $4,900 better. I understand the playing experience, but quality frankly starts to get marginal after spending $1,600-$2,000 on a good hardware synth so it gets harder to justify $5,000 for this, Kronos or Nords. If money isn't a factor, then it is a great buy. Most musicians just don't have that kind of money and can create astounding sounds with Omnisphera, Diva or Reveal Spire for a much smaller investment.
