  • Eclipse® Bigleaf Hydrangea offers season-long beauty with intense, dark purple leaves that hold their color, even in warm climates. The striking foliage contrasted by cranberry or dark purple blooms pair perfectly with anything in the garden.

Yes. I finally picked one up from Home Depot. This is truly stunning & quite unique coloring for a big leaf hydrangea. Love it. ❤

I just picked one up from my local nursery. It's absolutely stunning. Never seen a plant quite like it, never mind a hydrangea!

Can this be grown in the shade?

So to clarify, it’s ok to grow these in full sun in Illinois? There seems to be some confusion between the tag (which says full sun), and in this video you state full sun in Illinois but the website which says morning sun/afternoon shade as does a comment above. Thanks!

Is this “Light My Fire” of Black Diamonds series?
I can’t find any difference between the two.

i bought eclipse today. How can I maintain soil pH to get that rich cranberry color?

Hi there! Eclipse® planted in alkaline soil will keep their cranberry blooms. Figuring out your soil pH will be the first step in knowing how to amend the soil to keep the cranberry color.

A lot of hydrangeas melt with any afternoon sun in Texas.

That's why we recommend Eclipse® gets full morning sun and dappled afternoon shade!

Zone 7a in MD. Full sun or morning sun only?

I am also in zone 7a in WV. I purchased two plants from Lowe’s. The tag on mine says they need full sun, which is why I purchased them. However, most of the online sources say they need morning sun with afternoon shade (of course 😭). I planted mine in a sunny location where they receive full sun from 9 am until 5 pm. I hope they do well! They have only been in the ground for two days.
