After breaking in my axiom Ultra for a few weeks now, I’m starting to REALLY enjoy this pack. I agree about the inside zippers and the inverted pocket, however. There was absolutely no reason, at least from the consumer’s point of view, to strip the pack of the very features that made the original so unique and a must have for any collector or enthusiast. And while I don’t mind, either way, a single water bottle slot and a side entry into the main/laptop compartment in exchange for a symmetrical dual water bottle slots, I am definitely going to be suggesting to them to at least bring back the inverted front pocket because I do believe that it is essential to the very core of the axiom backpack. Finally, the zippers are breaking in with Ultra material slowly but surely and it’s starting to have a very nice subtle patina. So overall I agree with you, the material choice is a winner but getting rid of some of the key features that defined this pack is definitely a miss. The 19L size doesn’t seem or feel to be that different from the 24L in terms of load out, probably in part due to having only one side pocket, cutting into internal space when used, instead of two. Overall, I’m keeping this pack but to be perfectly frank, if it was any other material instead of ultra, which I know they have in X-pac and now waxed canvas, I think I would probably not keep the pack and wait for V3. As a side note, notice that most of not all TAD packs focus very much on being completely sourced and made in the USA but the Ultra variant of Axiom specifically uses assembled in the USA… that’s because challenge sailcloth and ultra material in particular is not made in the United States, whereas, X-PAC is 😊
I totally agree with you on the S2, to this day I am still holding off because of the design misses. I would like to see the S2 with only ONE non zippered pocket for a pair of gloves. And yep, I absolutely dig the new CPL 16!
I've had the Axiom since the first 18L release. Now I have the green 19L? version Its a great everyday bag (perhaps excluding this version) but I just wish they stretched everything out a bit. Every pocket and compartment feels tight and its just a squeeze getting things in an out. Perhaps thats by design to keep it a certain shape but as someone who's been using this bag since 2018 I could use a few more inches in every pocket, flap, compartment
I wish the water bottle pocket was deeper to fit thicker ones, and maybe a more padded top handle but other than that this is by far my favorite EDC bag. I have the Kaidan 3.0 Bullet but Gorucks in general just haven't been comfortable for my back. Same as any Evergoods bag. The TAD harness is way more comfortable for me. But it's all individual needs and back shape etc.,
This bag seems severely under featured for the price. I feel the same way about my BB conceal 21 in X-PAC, but that bag was almost $200 cheaper. I feel like Evergoods is the top of the heap for my needs, I just wish they would do a CPL X-PAC version as a constant offering and maybe make an even more premium USA made line.
Shoulder straps are perfect. All around good bag imo. Do you know if TAD provides customisable shoulder straps for the litespeed? Customisable to this style? I hate how loaded and bulky the litespeed straps are. Or seem from the looks I should say.
the thing i like about the axiom is, its more svelt. the bullet just looks like a fat box honestly. also, the cpl16 is most unique bag to me in a sense that its simultaneously the most uncomfortable bag AND the most comfortable bag at the same time lol. unless you wear the bag high and tight, its like built in shape just leaves gaps in the shoulders, its very strange fit. but once you zinch it up its beautiful. but then at 16tall, just looks like a small fat box high on back. thats why i returned it and miss for me.
Yeah and all evergoods straps are too short. I checked and even my 12l fjallraven has few inches longer straps so the strap buckle doesn't sit in my armpit.
Was waiting for this video. I got the x-pac s2 version and then swapped it for the ultima ratio… let’s see what you think - also did you get the mission workshop mars collab?
A couple of things I noticed… if I missed it I apologize but did you ever mention the price tag on this pack? Also, I got a sense that you really wanted to love this pack but was largely disappointed with the lack of features, namely internal zippers and the inverted front pocket that used to exist on the 24L version? So if I understood it correctly, you liked or even loved the materials and the overall idea of Ultra being incorporated into this design but felt that the previous versions had more to offer in terms of features and by saying that they need to get it right, you basically wish that they kept the previous version’s bells and whistles executed in this version’s materials?
I found the ergonomic on the new harness don’t work. Specifically the straps angle outwards so they slide off your shoulders. Over time this will fatigue your neck and back.
This one is a miss for me. The materiel is no doubt amazing, but I will never be able to retrieve a pen without the entire terminal hearing it. Not to mention the lame lack of a secure compartment on that first lid as pointed out.

No plans to. If I had to guess it’s identical to the Heritage and collaboration editions pockets.
