    Great to ride on that train.I well remember the Bury To Bolton line that ran through
    Knowsley Street back in the late 60's.
    Happy days of the smell of steam trains and getting a platform ticket to
    watch the engines come and go.Happy memories

    I have found Old Maps co.uk dating from 1850 onwards showing the changes overtime ,Bury to Manchester In 1850 there were no station between Manchester and Bury the came later on . Heywood , Whitefield, Prestwhich had there own Goods yard and Crumpsall with a coal yard.

    Fame at last :) Myself sat on the bench near the end of the platform while my daughter plays on the yellow luggage trolley a bit further down :)

    4.49 spot the bad neighbour - a somewhat dangerous looking overhanging pile of scrap metal bending over the security fence and looking like ti might fall onto railway property.

    Does the ELR still connect to Manchester (the main national network)?

    • @desperatemohammedantheworl5833
      @desperatemohammedantheworl5833 Před 3 lety +1

      It connects to the Manchester Metrolink tram network (and as such the national rail network at Manchester Victoria) just south west of Bolton Street Station but I presume despite it being full BR loading gauge most trains are too heavy and/or can't cope with the gradients to use this line, meaning there's no doubt a full railway link elsewhere.

      Only at Castleton now. The connection south of the sidings at Bury was disconnected when Metrolink opened.

      @@TheBrickGuy7939 Was chopped last time was there last year. Even if it was intact, it couldn't be used now as access onto Metrolink for none Trams is prohibited. Will be nice when the ELR get to use a platform at Castleton eventually.
