    I recognise TLV are known for their overall attention to detail on all their models. But it's ultimately their main focus on stock trim, early era JDM vehicles that really sets them apart. If I'm looking for stock 60s, 70s or 80s JDM 1/64 diecast this is the brand I will always turn to. There aren't many diecast brands that can lay claim to all cars in their line-up having perfect rollability, nor the consistent level of quality that TLV very clearly maintains.

    I wish they did more 'foreign' brands, but as a Lancia fan am very pleased they produced the epic Thema 8.32 (Ferrari) and Delta Integrale ;-)
    A little expensive overall

      imo a minimum foreign brands within TLV is better imo. best thing about TLV is the stuff not many brands do like those small Kei cars or japanese mini vans. would take the Mazda Bongo Van over the skyline lol

      What is the price difference approximately?

    • @MaximusOverdrive
      @MaximusOverdrive Před 6 měsíci

      Varies depending on the model, but you could spend over $60 more on a TLV compared to a Mini GT.

    • @jimsmagnificentminiaturemo3235
      @jimsmagnificentminiaturemo3235 Před 6 měsíci

      I agree, especially since they have such a limited range of new models in comparison to Mini GT. For example, how many examples of the R35 or the Mazda RX-7, or for that, matter, these station wagons/estates do we really need? And at these prices? I picked up the 400R because for a change, it felt fresh and new but at these prices it really is hard to pick these over not only Mini GTs but offerings from other brands like Pop Race and Tarmac Works.

    • @kevinb_45
      @kevinb_45 Před 6 měsíci

      I became more selective with my TLV purchases after getting into MiniGT and Tarmac Works. TLV is great for their diorama sets, work vehicles, and for getting some “commuter-type” cars if you’re wanting to make a realistic display of some kind.

    For the price I'd go for INNO64, they already have the 400R (although it's not perfect), and recently introduced de GT-R (R35), which in my opinion beats the TLV-N. And for cheaper.

      Its very model specific. Their R32 is pretty great but others can be hit and miss. Their NSXs are too low for something with stock wheels and their R34 shape is a touch out of proportion, compared to say, Kyosho. As for the 400R, TLVN is far and away the best, better than the generally more expensive IG models and blow the inno out of the water.

    The R35 carbon hood design is obviously out of scale that ruins the cast, actually it could better not to use that carbon design at all. The Toyota Apex and the RX7 are awesome! I hope I can find the Gtr 400R and compare them with excellent already INNO ones!

    as a unbiased opinion
    i actually enjoy collecting TLV, have several hundred of them. are they the gold standard probably not, however out of all the premium diecasts TLV definitely has the best paint due to its thiness, however it doesn't last in a fair few asian countries like thailand, indonesia etc
    other brands like Inno have better detailing in some parts
    some cars in the TLV range are somewhat incorrect such as the Altezza the wheels are concaved out and are somewhat too large, also the F355 TLV wheels are completely flat, the irony here is the cheaper F355 tomica premium has more correct wheels
    Tomytec also is questionable lazy in some aspects, the Ferrari Daytona TLV is a brilliant casting however the engine bay is just rubbish.

  • @smallmodelcollector
    @smallmodelcollector Před 5 měsíci

    I would rank TLV towards the bottom of the pile since they still make models like its 10 years ago but charge more than modern brands. Inno64, Tarmac, and the endless illegal Chinese brands have more details. LCD completely blows the brand away and are licensed, but resin models blow away anything diecast. I like the brand for the old classic JDM cars which no other brand will touch.

    I couldn't care less about Tomica Limited Vintage because they cost an arm and a leg to buy for just one diecast vehicle, and they are not even sold in my country (United States). Waste of money in my opinion. Greenlight, Johnny Lighting and M2 Machines are the way to go.

    • @PlatinumNath
      @PlatinumNath Před 6 měsíci +4

      Even the Asians also think TLVN is fucking overpriced as shit, especially adding to the fact it has some issues like paint bubbling being rampant among collectors. MiniGT even if not all to exact scale has better durability and exudes nearly the same amount of details for a fraction of the price, plus all cars having mirrors already in place and made of rubber which means no immediate risk of fracture. Autoworld has very nice amount of details, also for a fraction of the price of TLVN, though mostly American cars. Kyosho Diecasts and Konami Diecasts have the same amount of variety like TLVN for cheaper, has good amount of details, and lasts well - even have their own stand to display them on. Inno64 and Tarmac Works Hobby/Global may not be mostly rollable but they have pretty competitive details.
      M2 Machines have some QC issues but yeah they're pretty nice too, lots of separate details for it's price. JL also has some quality issues for it's modern line and fitment and styling isnt quite right on some cars, but they're also quite collectible, for a fraction of TLVN price. Greenlight is the most value for money, putting details up with somehow cheap price listings, making one wonder how they're doing premium stuff for the price of a mid range Hotwheels.
