BAIC Beijing X55 Review - A Market Disrupter??

An upmarket sub-brand of BAIC, the Beijing moniker adds bold futuristic and upmarket styling to a practical affordable SUV offering, but is this a market or segment disrupter, we believe it very much is!

There are 3 trim levels to choose from (Dynamic, Elite & Premium), while all derivatives in the range are powered by a 130 kW/305 Nm 1.5-litre 4-cylinder turbopetrol engine that drives the model’s front wheels via a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. The steering is pleasantly direct and nicely weighted and even on its 19-inch alloys it drives incredibly smoothly and comfortably.
The X55 is not a sizeable car, but its interior is surprisingly spacious, which suggests clever space utilisation on Beijing’s part. Both seated upfront or at the rear, space is sizeable. The digital instrument cluster and infotainment touchscreen look very high definition and sit wheel in a premium feeling interior. Perhaps, the biggest highlight also must be the seats, all-around, the seats are some of the best anywhere in the automotive landscape, made particularly notable by this vehicle's reasonable price point.
There’s a massive array of standard features fitted throughout the X55 range, impressive styling, and seriously impressive space on offer, add a very reasonable price tag, and what you have here is easily another Chinese auto which is a market/segment disrupter. Though every vehicle has its drawbacks, it's fair to say that having lived with the BAIC Beijing X55 for some time, we were very decently impressed!
