Datsyuk’s hands were ahead of his time
Or any time
@@TheOvermaster Agreed!
Absolutely agree
Exactly why goalies couldn't read them. They can't see into the future, so the puck's already in the net.
How were they ahead of their time? Do you honestly think there weren't guys in the early 00's with hands like players today?
let’s be real, kane and datsyuk could’ve filled this list 1-15 themselves
Easily.
Oh for sure!
Those two and Barkov could probably fill a top 25 head to toe
Completely agree. Those 2 are the best when it comes to shootout goals. Toews is tops all time, kane is 3rd with Oshie in between them. Kane is all tops all time in attempts.
Let’s be real, Malik for a defensemen could’ve filled this list 2-15 himself.
I see a few comments that #1 (Malik) wasn't the best goal. I think context is super important to understand why it tops the list. It was the first year of the shootout and still early in the season. We weren't quite sure what to expect and some fans hadn't watched one yet. This was the first legendary moment that put shootouts on the map in the NHL. This was in the FIFTEENTH round, which stood as the longest shootout for quite some time. And since it was so many rounds deep, up steps MAREK MALIK, who ended his career with 33 goals in 691 games. For that player to pull that move at that moment was unbelievable. That's why it's a much-deserving #1.
And no one thought he was goin go score
Exactly, he was the fifteenth guy out, no one expected him to pull off a crazy move like that
Thanks for the context. That makes an already impressive goal even better!
And the shot was taken between the legs as well. Beautiful goal for a big man.
As a Rangers fan it was amazing because of that, and I believe this was the season after the lockout so it was a bit of a magical season because of Jagr and a bunch of blue collar guys that really brought respectability back to the Rangers.
Everything about Malik’s goal is amazing. The set up, the announcers, the move/goal, the humble celly. Perfect.
The coolest thing is the way he just skates off like it was nothing, like "Yeah I made that move and scored, what news??"
Hardly # 1 though
@xbox rules yeah I agree
My dad works for the team and talked to Malik after the game. He jokingly said “oh yeah I practice the move all the time in practice”
man that celly is amazing haha, man just skates it off like "yall like that?"
I know the context matters, but Datsyuk’s flip is the best shootout goal of all time.
Yeah but a kid in Sweden did it first.
@@kozmeetorez Some college kid gave the 'Michigan' it's name, doesn't mean it's any less impressive when the pros pull it off.
@@kozmeetorez Linus Omark whos actually an old player right now lol
YES
nope
Let’s just take a moment 3-15 of those were Datsyuk
2 were his (11,2) not 3.
Ovechkin or Datsyuk?
@@cantpleasonist I'll call it 2.5. Giroux's was a RH version of 'The Datsyuk' move.
2 were Patrick Kane
*takes a moment*
pavel. iconic.
his name is the magic man :)
Your avatar is iconic
The fact that Pavel is the literal thumbnail should tell you everything you need to know. He was a once in a generation kind of player.
The first ever datsyuk deke is criminally underrated in this list
Datsyuk was never underrated. He was on basically every top 10 list. Should've he gone higher? Sure, he was one of the most creative and skillful players.
The fact that he's listed more then once tells how great he was
@@brendanmannik9831 I think rating the first ever pullback deke that low was insanity. He was a level above when it came to puck control. Greatest stick handler of all time.
I remember some hockey player explaining that you need insanly high strenght to be able to have your hips pointing one direction and go the other due to your feet pointing in another direction. Thats why it should have been the number 1 goal. No other players ever been able to do this and hockey players check the hips rather then the shoulder to figure where someone si going. Cuz no one else can fake a turn with his hips.
@@dilididli2274 players around the league used to say all the time that pound for pound datsyuk was the strongest they’d ever played against
Приятно видеть что многие помнят и любят Дацюка. Всем привет из России.
mitä?
I don't know what you said but I agree
Тебя тут охрененно все поняли
Абсолютная легенда. было бы грехом забыть его!
Кто такой ДаТцюк ?
I am grateful I got to grow up watching Datsyuk and Kane. Those hands are unreal
Datsyuk, Kane and Giroux... Amazing
Giroux just copied datsyuk, he should have patient that move lol! But pavel did it so much better and in a game.
@@gunnnervader7396 fun bit of trivia, a reporter asked Giroux what he called the move he used to undress Gustavsson. Without hesitation, Giroux responded, “The Datsyuk.”
I sure do miss pavel. He was an amazing player.
Marek Malik’s wasn’t the most skilled necessarily but the fact that he is a defenseman in the longest (?) nhl shootout in history made it pretty darn extraordinary
I believe Caps and Panthers a few years back actually broke the record for longest but I could be wrong.
@@haydenrothenberg762 yep, but it had been the record at that time and was until the caps panther game
@@haydenrothenberg762 yes, they went twenty rounds i think.
I just came here specifically to make sure that Datsyuk was in this top 10 at least twice, and thankfully I was not disappointed. 😊
I saw the title of the video and thought the change up against Chicago has to be there. Was not disappointed.
Love that shootout that featured both Kane and Datsyuk's goals. I watched it live and I stand by it being the best shootout ever!
Didn't Bertuzzi scored a spin-o-rama goal in that shootout as well?
They didn’t even happen in the same year lmao so no, you didn’t see them both in one night.
@@cartermacewen3086 yep, that Datsyuk one and Bertuzzi I've mentioned were in January 2010 and Patty's was in April 2021
I would say the Olympic showdown between Datsyuk and Oshie is the best shootout ever. Best NHL shootout? You're probably right.
Now i need to find me some Pavel Datsyuk highlights on YT. Thanks NBC Sports.
You’ll regret why you didn’t sooner
@@southviewarab They never disappoint!
Go to Awood40
This should’ve just been a Pavel Datsyuk highlight reel.
I think this could easily have been a datsyuk and Kane highlight reel
I was at the game where Datsyuk flipped it over Niemi. The Wings lost the shootout, but I'll always treasure that goal. So fortunate to have seen him play at the Joe many times.
I'm pretty sure the Wings won 4-3 if memory serves. That was the same shootout Bertuzzi did the spin-o-rama in the third round to seal it
@@youvegottabekiddingme1955 I believe that they were the victors,as well
Too bad he screwed his team and teammates over when he left.
I miss datsyuk :(
Then reload and fire again lmao. Gotcha dweep
Go to Russia, he is still playing
Я тоже ...

@Justin Roberts - The last time I missed a player as much as I miss Pavel Datsyuk, was in 1971, when Gordie Howe retired after 25 yrs.
As Gordie was tops in his time, so Pavel was in mine.
I was only old enough to catch the last 7 years of Howe, and all 14 for Datsyuk. {A tremendous bonus was having Yzerman, Lidström, Zetterberg, and a few more epic players join the memories}
I've always considered myself blessed to have had 21 years of watching two phenomenal players do their thing, for my team; and the myriad of exceptional players that made my 2nd group of players, as memorable as the first.
I'm still a Wing, just not as excited about a team, in which I only know about half the players by name.
As a Blues fan. I'd suck it up and say I miss Pavel Datsyuk. Great talent.
Me: Sees video title.
Me: Sure, I’d love to watch a Pavel Datsyuk highlight reel.
Datsyuk was sick.
What a great Datsyk!!!
I'm not a hockey fan, and I never played the sport. But the most beautiful to me was #11, Pavel Datsyuk. He sort of fooled the goalie with handwork to the goalie's right, and with his footwork to the goalie's left, he opened a huge space to finish. The goalie was completely lost, he barely appear in the footage.
Amazing move.
Datsyuk remains to have the best hands ever in the NHL. Truly the Ronaldinho of hockey.
kane and datsyuk are the only ones to make this list twice
Barkov has like six shots that could've been on this list.
Datsyuk and Kane could have filled this list by themselves.
@@ryanl7577 easily
Datsyuk > Kane
Exuse me but Datsyuk goals are simply the best!
If you’re taking about the greatest shootout players in history, Datsyuk has to be on top of the list
But this isn’t about the greatest shootout players, it’s about the single greatest shot and that’s by Malik.
Not a single doubt about it
@@charybdisfgl2048 He never said it was
Это правда 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
With Barkov, Jussi Jokinen and TJ Oshie
Can't get enough of the announcer's disbelief before and after the goal during Malik's clip. Plus the Statue of Liberty celly at the end...unreal.
That announcer that screamed at the goal is none other than the (current) President of the New York Rangers, John Davidson.
I still don't think people here in Detroit or in the NHL truly, fully appreciated how other-worldly Datsyuk was.
Datsyuk made hockey look like it wasn't hockey. Only player to do that to me.
Omg Pasha I am honored I was able to witness your magic in person many times! The GOAT
Barkov's was filthy - he clapped that stick off the ice psyching out a shot, and Markstrom totally bit. That was awesome!
Maliks goal and reaction are pure gold...
Pure comic gold. A lumbering, oversized defensive-defenseman who scored six goals in two-and-a-half years with the Rangers pulls off a show-off, between-the-legs move (way before it was fashionable for anyone to try outside of showing up your goalie in practice) on the 15th round of a shootout, and then signals to the crowd that they're not cheering loud enough. Ain't nothin' but a thang...
@@harlechmaker He was actually doing Statue of Liberty impression lol
@@harlechmaker like Shawn Thornton scoring on a penalty shot
5:57 Wow. That was unbelievable. I’ll give Datsyuk that.
Datsyuk is on the list twice 👍
Паша Волшебник Хоккея!!!
The Magic Man 🇷🇺
Kaner's goal against Minnesota, to me is the greatest shootout goal I have ever seen.
I agree
How is Crosby's goal ahead of Datsyuk and Giroux's??
Agreed. I’ve never seen anyone go backhand before. Crosby’s shouldn’t be on the list at all.
@@Shamrock3939 Right. All he did was throw a leg fake then go backhand. You see goals better than that in literally every shootout.
Or Kane's
The context. He grew up as a Canadiens fan, completely destroyed the Quebec junior league record book, and scored that goal in his first career game against Montreal.
@@DaveHogg Yeaaaaahhh, NO. LOL. That's the worst excuse ever. If it was like, Grossman that did that, sure. But it's a guy they scores all the time with a move that's used all the time. Facts. Get over it. Crosby doesn't really have hands. He never has. He's a power-foward and a playmaker.
Every time I’d see Kane’s goal against Minnesota I cringe for the poor goalie
the disrespect is sensational
wait what? u say it is easy to save that move. have u even watched hockey?
The emphatic shot into the net after those moves is just icing on the cake.
@@villeaalto7526 he never said it was an easy save. He cringed for the goalie because Kane embarrassed him
@@foshuajabia3771 oh ok
Most of these should have been #1, but Marek Malik scoring like that, after all those rounds, the way he did, considering he was a defenseman that hardly scored, was absolutely stunning.
Tatars was filthy . Silky smooth
Malik’s goal was so new at the time and he really broke ground with that move. Now you see many players doing it.
Datsyuk was an incomparable puck wizard, but I'm here for Malik.
Girouxs shot is so underrated bro
Datsyuk already pulled that off. More than once.
Yeah people don't do it as slick as The Magician. But hey they do get credit for pulling it off.
@@ikejones7648 giroux was way smoother. More speed better finish
@@ikejones7648 Yeah but Giroux did that move against the Islanders once that was smoother than anyone has ever done it. And, he has about 10 others that should be on this list. He doesn't have the best percentage but he has some of the best you'll ever see.
@@ikejones7648 I mean beyond that move everyone has copied off of each other and improve or put their own little move so yeah Datysuk did it first but Gs was much smoother. I’m not arguing that G is a better shootout guy but he has a bag of moves himself, I mean has datysuk scored on a slapshot?
Great video. The Kane and Datsyuk goals were easily the best of the bunch.👍
In those first couple of years of shootouts being a part of the end of a game then Dallas Stars forward Jussi Jokinen was a shootout genius.
Kane, Kucherov and Datsyuk were the best of the 15.
Datsyuk > Kane
Kuchrov doesn't belong in the same sentence as datsyuk
@@noahc8997 Datsyuk is the man but has he ever scored 128 points in a season and or scored back to back 30+ playoffs points?
@@lordfinesseclansince96 this
@@noahc8997 u sure about that? Kuch got 30+ points b2b in the playoffs and got 128 points.
Malik's Shootout goal was the best ever I recon... No one expected that goal... No one
The call on that Malik shot, I didn't realize how immediately I would remember that. So iconic to me.
I'm Russian. When I read the comments, I understood how much Datsyuk was loved in the USA.
Miss his magic
There were a few more barkov shots that were not on there that deserved to be. Honestly it really should have been barkov and Datsyuk for most of the list they are so similar in shootouts and do amazing things.
Kaners huge smile. Congrats on 400 my guy!
And 1000 - Go 1KANE
Datsyuk and Kane are twice. That tells who has the best hands. Legends
Giroux has better hands than Kane. At least equal to.
Pavel, Pasha, Pavka...... Dacjuk Red Wings 👏✌️👍
Pavka - we don't say so. more correct - Pavel, Pasha, Pashok, Pashka, Pakha, Pakhan, Pashtet, Pavlik, Pashunya. Hi, Pavel, show me some magic today - PrivEt, Pash, poshli dEvok yebAt'
That Malik goal never fails to crack me up. Especially the commentator whose mind is blown 🤣
0:31 Tuukka: "Aight imma head out"
Yeah the most noticeable thing about that was that Rask decided it was over before the puck even hit the twine.
After all these years, I believe Marek Malik's goal is my favorite goal of all time, and not just in the shootout. I'm not even a Rangers fan, but everything about this goal is absolute gold
I'm surprised Datsyuk wasnt in all 15.
#2 is the best shootout goal of all time
@Jake Stuart yes it is
I’d say the forsberg in the olympics was the most amazing and at the time no one had seen anything like it
I say #3 is the best goal on this list
Grabovski’s goal 🥅...very impressive!
Gosh I remember the excitement during Crosby's rookie year. To have been the joke of the league for a few years and then lucked out enough to draft him. I was in house for his first NHL goal against Boston...Then the excitement around for that first half season when we realized he was for real. This shootout goal against his favorite childhood team. It was all so magical/storybook.
Got to see the Tatar goal live. Missing you in Detroit
I liked #2 the best because doing that flip over the goalie took a huge risk in getting the puck to not go over the net or not go high enough. Made for a funny highlight too 😀
Should just do datsyuk top 10 haha.. that guy was sick
Datsyuk of course had incredible hands, but I really think part of his secret is in his eyes - he gets goalies to commit better than anyone in the history of the game. That’s not all hands.
The footwork is amazing too, he's able to change direction without giving any hints he's about to do it. Same goes with his shoulders, using them to sell the feint even more, it's just the whole package, not just the hands.
@@mytrix8576I know this comment is a year old so my bad but, I feel that, I wouldn’t even say his hands are that crazy fast like kanes, pavel has a lot wider movements and stick handles and definitely uses his feet and shoulders the most id say for deception and his hands are good enough to keep up with it all
Буллиты в исполнении Паши Дацюка это как отдельный вид искусства!!! Ну и Куч хорош...буллит без броска...красота да и только
I was so taken aback as a bruins fan when Schlemko did that
No one will ever forget when a 6'6 defensive defencemen shot in the 14th round of the shootout and pulled off the best goal we've seen in a shootout.
The genuine reaction to Malik’s goal is why it’ll stay #1 forever
This is fantastic. Thanks!
Goalies nightmare. 1 v 1 with Datsyuk
“I don’t think he lost it”
Haha Barkov is straight up savage
Datsyuk is the only man i want to see in Penguins :(
Someone explain why Crosby’s is even on this list
Leagues poster child when he was young
his leg kick is in the video game, it must have been iconic lol
That was his first career shootout goal/attempt
I thought the same thing. It was a pretty standard goal.
@@goodyou2737 thank u nick foster, these idiots dont seem to realize this,
All of these are amazing, but Kane’s goal on Backstrom is the one for me. His hands are insane.
Schlemko with the reverse-Forsberg was insane!

Perfect goals👏
Datsyuks 11?? Revolutionized breakaways with that-“the datsyuk”
*the datsyukian deke
@@uvuvwevwevweonyetenyevweug9894 if you played hockey, youd know people just called it the datsyuk-when he faked the shot and pulled it with his backhand. Datsyukian deke just refers to his general amazing breakaways
Maliks goal will never die
What about the Linus Omark first ever game & shoot out attempt. Might not be number 1 ever but easily top 10.
This is indeed the greatest list ever, nice job NBC
Great video!!!
Datsyuk has to be one of the most underrated hockey player of all time maybe due to the fact that he was a very low profile character. Datsyuk has in my opinion one of the highest hockey IQ and the greatest hands in the sport. He was never caught in the box for stupid penalties and was super reliable defensively.
I used to watch Detroit games on TV even though I am a hardcore HABS fan just to see Pavel Datsyuk maneuver the puck in between skates and sticks without getting touched.
He has to figure among the GOAT of this sport IMO.
I agree completely. Just cause he didnt put up 100+ point seasons (he could have if he wanted to) . In my opinion the best player in the league for a good 7 year stretch. The NHLs first internet viral star. The best 2-way player ive ever seen and the best hands Ive ever seen. Like you mentioned too his IQ was off the charts. He was truly a very special player to watch and I cant believe how quickly his career went by.
Kucherov si such a troll 😂
so cool really impresiv good enlgish america
Datzuk the Best
Giroux doing the right handed Datsyuk
Nobody better than Datsyuk, it’s not even a question.
Datsyk and Kucherov goals are sick !
I disagree with Crosby being above Datsyuk, considering all Crosby did was take Datsyuks move and just added in a little fake shot.
Dats should be #1 because of how innovative and creative he was, he changed the game.
Makes me so happy and proud that I got to witness, "The Magic Man" in his best years of hockey, playing for my Detroit Red Wings. What great times those were!
Happy Birthday Magic Man! Here’s to many, many more! 🥳
Malik's goal still makes me smile.
Crosby’s is the most basic SO goal. Shouldn’t be in the top 15
Yea that was the only one on the list I disagreed with
It’s definitely 100% not better than the Datsyuk one before it
He sent a water bottle like ten feet in the air on his backhand. It definitely should be on this list
@@patrickjames1798 the only thing good about it was the water bottle, that's not even top 50 shootout material
@@patrickjames1798 that’s just not that cool....
What about when ribiero did the forsberg move between his legs
tbh as a wings fan and also looking the goals datsyuk's flip was the best
Before I started this video, I thought "Ok, Datsyuk better be #2, and Malik better be #1." You nailed it as far as I'm concerned! Good job.
I’m a NYR fan but 1 should be the magic man
