  • Here's my review on the Husqvarna 520iLX Trimmer, our team + myself tested out the trimmer in a lot of properties this week under different conditions, and here are my thoughts on it. I also compare the performance with the EGO Power+ PH1400 Power Head that we already use on a regular basis! Is Husqvarna's trimmer good enough for us to switch? Find out!
    If you have any questions for us, leave them down at the comment section below and we will try to answer them!

    I agree with your review, I personally don't like trimmers with the powerheads, they feel too heavy upfront and unbalanced. You are going to like the 325iLK but will find the safety switch a pain in the but lol!

      @QuietLawn  Před 4 lety +1

      Thanks Johnny! Absolutely. Those safety switches are annoying. You really should give the Ego multi head system or rear motor string trimmer a try. I still haven't found anything that compares as far as power and quality go. We've been beating them up for almost 4 years now with almost no issues. Only sacrifice is weight.

    1:13 I have been using the 520ilx for almost 2 years now as my full time whippy for work (lawn edges and occasional brushcutting), it just gets put in the trailer loose and doesn't exactly get treated well and hasn't skipped a beat at all let alone broken in any way, it's basically like new still (aside from being covered in scratches).
    10/10 machine imo, just wish it had a little more power (but ofcourse that comes at the expense of runtime and weight).

      That's great to hear. I do actually like the Husqvarna tools.

    It makes sense that EGO & Husqvarna would put more powerful motors in the kombi system " power head" units to adequately power pole saws, cultivators etc... After mindlessly running the lightest and probably lowest power Redmax trimmer they offer for the last five years, I switched up today and used my Stihl KM110R Kombi with the trimmer attachment all day. Its probably twice as heavy as the redmax but I have to say that I'm starting to understand why you are willing to sacrifice more weight for more power. Up till today I was focused on the 325ilk because of the light weight but after using the heavy powerful stihl Kombi today I'm starting to tilt towards the EGO Power Head that you have been using for many years. Thanks for the reviews.

      Absolutely. The weight does wear you out, but using things like the Darwin's Grip make it much easier. It's nice to have the extra power when you need it.

    1:55 agree with the button thing. And you have to press the reverse every time as well if you want it spin like a normal petrol whippy.
    Though on second though, the amount of times I have just fiddles with the trigger while talking to someone or grab the trigger when I pcik it up I'm certain I would have set it off if it could just start up like taht so probably not a bad idea.
    The auto-ff timer can be changed too, it's longer on mine, guys in the shop set it.

    • @QuietLawn
      @QuietLawn  Před rokem

      Yeah, I can see that. Although, we have none of those features on the trimmers we use and we've never had that problem.

    For $699 it should be built like an Abrams tank lol. I was actually very impressed with an older Echo 56V trimmer I bought years ago, with multiple speed settings etc, it would cut through anything like butter. The only thing was the battery would wear my arms out after 20 mins because of the weight, ended up taking it back for that reason.

    • @QuietLawn
      @QuietLawn  Před 2 lety +1

      Yeah, I remember those. They were definitely heavy. I agree this one should be somewhere in the middle. Thanks for commenting.

    1:23 it's flexible because it's actually less likely to snap due to not being brittle.

    Were you using the same size line as your EGO and how did the swath compare after you removed the guard?

    • @QuietLawn
      @QuietLawn  Před 4 lety

      Yes, I was using .95 and it did seem to handle the same swath.

      It might be Tony. I really want a big fan of this unit at all and much preferred the 325ilk with the trimmer head. That's the direction I would go if switching to Husqvarna.

  • @crimmy0204
    @crimmy0204 Před 4 lety +1

    I prefer the Trimmers with the motor at the bump head side, the problem with ego bump head trimmers that arn't the power head ones you use is the front head motor isn't really power full enough for a 16-17" swath and the power head trimmers you use from ego are a bit heavy IMO and you can't pulse trim, so not as efficient on battery run time. If ego made one of their trimmers with a more powerful head motor I'd literally have no complaints except for the trigger let off which happens some times.

    • @QuietLawn
      @QuietLawn  Před 4 lety

      That's great feedback. I've actually never used any Ego trimmers except with a rear motor. I didn't know they had less power. But, you're right about them being heavy.

    • @BWCA-vy2pi
      @BWCA-vy2pi Před 4 lety

      Do you prefer the motor on the bump head side because of better balance? Does pulse trim mean changing the speed with the trigger?

    • @crimmy0204
      @crimmy0204 Před 4 lety +1

      @@BWCA-vy2pi you can pulse the trigger and cut grass to save battery life, with the smallest battery you can cut multiple properties.

      @@crimmy0204I didn't know you can't control the head speed from the trigger on the EGO power head. That is good to know. What are other advantages of having the motor on the bump head side and I wonder if the Husqvarna 520ilx has more or less power than the EGO with the motor on the bump head?

    • @QuietLawn
      @QuietLawn  Před 4 lety +1

      @@BWCA-vy2pi yes, you can control the head speed with the rear motors just like any other string trimmer.

    I’m sure I’m a good dozen years behind, but why move away from the tried and true stihl 2 smokes or 4mix units? I see battery powered options for everything but I have no faith, lol.

      @ThordTV Před 3 lety +1

      9 months late but ... I use battery because it is lighter and no maintenance other than recharging and changing the string. The most powerful battery one is a bit less than the least powerful fueled ones. They are cheaper. They will cut grass up to waist height but they are slower because they are less powerful, I have cut a few firebreaks in a field with one. Mostly the string thickness does not go over 2.0mm but some will work fine with 2.5mm. A Dewalt Battery tends to last less than 30 minutes if you need to do anything more than trim the edge of the lawn but I believe dewalt do say that battery life is shortened if you use thicker line. They are cheaper.
