- This is me directing the BBC Oxford regional news headlines at 10pm on 27th Sept 2012. A live edition of Crimewatch is finishing. There's a trail for Question Time then we opt out to play a regional BBC one symbol, rejoining the network for the national headlines. You can hear the Ten o'clock news director in the background. We opt out again for regional headlines then rejoin the network. A busy sequence that at ten o'clock the director vision mixes and counts through as well. There's a sound operator just out of shot.
So interesting. You would never think its someone in a little dark room doing this. So basically at the end of the national broadcast stuff you cut to bbc 1 in… bit and then back to the main feed from london for head lines then back to the local news for their headlines then back to the national feed for the main news
This is absolutely fascinating!
I was wondering whether it would be possible to make a video about what happens behind the scenes in the run-up to the BBC News at Six so such as how you listen to the network's instructions about when to opt-out of BBC One for the regional ident and headlines etc.
Thank you for uploading this!
Thank you so much for this upload this is brilliant!
you prolly dont care at all but does anybody know a way to log back into an instagram account??
I was stupid lost my login password. I would love any tips you can offer me!
@@alexkyree8380 Use Google or something this is not the place to ask questions about irrelevant things!
@Alex Kyree Instablaster :)
@Abdullah Ryan thanks so much for your reply. I found the site through google and im trying it out atm.
Takes quite some time so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
@Abdullah Ryan it worked and I actually got access to my account again. I'm so happy:D
Thank you so much you saved my ass!
If only the station I work at had this kind of connection to its network...
When local stations in America are doing injects over the top of a network feed do they not get talkback/production audio from the master control room to make it easier like BBC regional directors do?
@@MarkPentler Not really. Most network news shows have a set format and it’s easy to follow it on a daily basis. The only live communication we get from the network is through internal alerting and advisory systems, to warn of breaking news coverage or other guidance.
All very complex beyond my understanding of how to work that control desk.
Late reply, but with most of these the actual operation of the equipment is comparatively straightforward. What is much harder is to keep up focus and situational awareness at all times and remember to push the right button at the exact right moment.
@@berlinflight_tvHow does anyone become a director in a tvstudio?.
Where is the sound from the network's control room in London coming from in the regional control room as it is very clear.
Is that big screen the transmission monitor
this is a old grass valley isn'it? I worked for bbc to as vision mixer :D
Sounds like Chris Cook on TB directing the 10.
What's TB?
@@mrhammadmossop1988ul-haq Talkback, the comms system in the background that allows the director to talk to everyone (and them to talk back).
@@bridgendboi Chris Cooke is brilliant isn't he?
@@mrhammadmossop1988ul-haq He is, lovely guy too.
@@bridgendboi Yep it's very easy for regional BBC directors to opt in and out of the network when they hear Chris's instructions from the main control room and gallery in London
I was wondering you know when you hand back to BBC One network do you have to push a switch on the control panel and that automatically connects you back to London?
"opt in, opt in!"
The touchscreen with the coloured blocks is what David is using to put them in and out of circuit.
@@MarkPentler Thank you
Possibly a dumb question but is the rightmost monitor on the desk a schedule using Teletext?
Probably, not. This was on the 27 Oct 2012, way after Ceefax ended.
Once you’ve done it a few times it’ll become second nature.
David, have you killed off a few videos or is CZcams being weird for me? I had some in a playlist that I think are gone now.
What was that button he pressed after the opt out back to the network did he push another button?
It's to turn off the program stream since they handed it off to the BBC.
@@EllySensei Thank you
What's this Assign 1 monitor used for
There were three assignable sources on this desk - for any external contribution to the programme: a guest in another region, a live insert from one of the reporters, anything like that.
@@deejayC Thanks a lot by the way I have commented on your other video of BBC Presentation 1993
what's the difference in a soft opt and a hard opt?
Soft opt is where they take control of the network, routing it through the desk and hitting to a local source via the desk when ready, a hard opt is where they cut the studio straight into the network feed at the opt point.
@@bridgendboi sorry, does the region take control of the network?
@@joshuanesbit Yes, that's the little BNCS panel that you see to the left of his desk where he opts in to the network feed and back out..
@@bridgendboi What does BNCS stand for?

Crt? Why
cause its a video from 2012 and a control room from earlier

So much faffing about just a fool the audience into thinking that there’s more local content than there really is.
What's the "local take" on the David Letterman show? Why would it be different in Oxford?
Not exactly a useful video, given the poor audio content. IF we could hear them clearly, it would make more sense !
I’ve never had a single issue hearing anything on this video, but agree that it is lower compared to anything else. You’ve also got the local Oxford chat over the top of it when David has to talk to his own crew
