You actually got the name on the Deep Gnome pretty good.

I love collecting 3d miniatures, and I have more unpainted still in the box than painted ones. And at first I wasnt sure if I liked the flat ones, but seeing this set and the quality of the art and how solid the panes seem, I realize that minis need not be 3d to bring live to the battlemat, and if anything 2d art allows for more artistic expression and therefore even cooler minis.
As for storage, I recently bought the Pathfinder Beginner Box and needed a nice way of storing the flat miniatures that come with that box, so I bought a screw storage box from a hardware store. I measured the dimensions of the miniatures and tried to find an appropriate compartment size and luckily the one I got had adjustable compart sizes. The lid compartment was the largest so I put larger thing like a dice bag, platforms for the minis, and such in there. It is a tower storage box with small shelves, by that I mean it stands up instead of laying down, like most screw storage boxes tend to be designed. By having this tower-like box, I don't have to worry as much about tipping it over and the minis going everywhere. It is also rather simple to travel with, although it does take a lot of space from a backpack, so I would probably keep it separate and just carry it as its own thing. It works for the Beginner Box minis and has a few compartments leftover, so I would say it can hold a decent amount of minis, definitely a session's or two worth of enemies, so, a very portable storage of minis and it does not take a lot of table space.

For keeping track of same/similar minis during combat, skinny-minis makes colored, numbered bases.

Ended up going all in on these things!
Was really hoping they'd do a big sale this year for the holidays...and they didn't disappoint!! They've got a sale going right now and for $180 you get 296 minis, 14 adventures, 24 double sided maps and a bunch of other things (like the goblin war wagon!). I also ordered a couple of vampire sets (will be starting up the Curse of Strahd shortly!), an additional Christmas adventure I've really been wanting and 4 binders with tons of pages for storage!
lol I spent more than I was expecting (I wanted to put about $250 into minis but ended up spending about $362 on these skinnys! haha)...but I'm now getting just a whole bucket load of not only minis (over 330), but one shot adventures and cool maps!
    I'm pretty stoked!
Sorry for the long message...it's just your video is a big part of what hyped me up about these Skinny-Minis. I know you have your own opinions on 2d vs 3d...but for me personally, ever sense finding out that these quality 2d's exist (I don't like the idea of flimsy cheap 2d's) it's the only way I've wanted to go with minis. I absolutely love the idea of these things!!

I think I like these! If you take the pages out while you play, your binder could double as a DM screen... 🧐 Just curious, would the minis fit back in the plastic frames for more compact storage?

So we found once you pop them out they don't fit snuggly back into the frame . A few times our resident barbarian snapped the plastic frame while getting a figure out

I'm a new DM and I'm so excited about these! Not sure if I'll invest in them just yet (I want to make sure my group's going to be committed before over investing), but at about $1 a mini I love these!

So Steve and I go back and forth about do we like 3d more than these flats but when we have such a small space these flats are amazing and the price is great

@@NVNGPodcast I think 3d is the way to go personally. But I don't like ugly minis, nor have I ever liked playing games with unpainted minis. I've been into several games that use minis and I love those games. But I tend to over invest in them, then feel swamped with the amount of painting I have to do. I usually greatly enjoy painting the first few minis...but I'm super slow at it and it can take me several days to get just 1 mini done...and then I burn out and put the game away never to pick it up again because of how daunting it feels to have to finish all the minis I purchased for it haha.
I think going 3d for D&D would be both very expensive, but also more than I can honestly take on. I just don't have the follow through to paint dozens of minis, and using minis that are either unpainted or that are really badly painted is a big turn off for me.
I love the idea of just carrying around tons of these little 2d plastic figures that look great! And I love the quality that these things have compared to some of the cheaper 2d's I've seen.
      Sorry for the long ramble!

@@NVNGPodcast Would you or Steve have any suggestions on 3d minis with about a $250 budget to start out with? I'm just looking for very generic old fashioned high fantasy dnd (goblins, orcs, elves, knights, etc. etc.)

    • @NVNGPodcast
      @NVNGPodcast  Před 11 měsíci +1

Steve here, and I too get that feeling with painting a mini or two and not wanting to batch paint dozens of minis, especially with me getting into Warhammer 40k. My suggestion for economical 3d mini's is to check out lots on eBay. You may catch a deal on a lot of mini's someone else painted, or a lot of minis from the old dnd collectable game (already painted), or some pathfinder mini's (already painted). Other than that, if you want to paint, Reaper Bones mini's is a good deal for a bunch of minis to check out when they have a Kickstarter, but that's lots of painting.

@@NVNGPodcast haha SO typical of me. I'm still new to this whole D&D and DM'ing thing...yet I've over invested in the hobby! I'm 7 official books deep, the 2 campaign cases (I got them for just $20 each, and they're totally worth that to me just for the awesome boxes alone honestly!), 330+ of these skinny-minis, way more sets of dice then I really need...yet not nearly enough that I have to have (lol), a bunch of monster/spell cards (love those things!), and a bunch of other things like a couple of the cool class tins that come with a bunch of tokens.
lol I totally get that this game can be super cheap. You really only need some paper and a pencil...but oh boy do I love jumping into a hobby like I have with this one. There's just so much excitement and joy! Like I'm a kid again!!
No idea why I'm sharing all of this with you guys! lol >.
