IMO he's the canonical main character if you don't create a custom one. It just thematically fits so well. Fane has just as much or more connection/lore but Ifan's arc is incredible.
The best character arc in the story. The story starts out as normal and cliche as possible and then turns into a question into morality , mercy , redemption and heroism and divinity itself. This is so favorite of mine I can't even explain properly. I played with every character and while many of their stories are awesome Ifan resonated with me the most. What I find parrallel to Ifan's whole story is to Gandalf's iconic quote ".....all we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us ...... ". What a story , what a character . I now can't even play the game without playing as Ifan. Edit : And if you are here, you searched for this . It was not the algorithm that brought you.
Totally agree with this. All of the characters are amazing (even Fane who I totally dislike), but Ifan is definitely my favorite one of the Origin characters.
I love the flow of this song and how it reflects Ifan’s story. It starts off lighthearted, flute based, and full of levity. Ifan as a Paladin. Then it gets a bit more serious and drum-filled- Ifan as he races the clock to arrive before the deathfog, and save the elves. But he fails. And he is broken by it. He leaves his vows behind, and becomes a brutal assassin. But there’s still that kernel of goodness in him.... beneath the layers of murderous grime. But at 1:48, that’s when Rhalic tells him- Don’t you remember what made you join the Crusaders? You’re better than this. And the greatest part? *He is*.
I read it a little bit differently. Rather than the first portion of the song being his time as a Paladin, given how tavern-like it is I though it was more representative of him being a Lone Wolf at the beginning of the game. At the end of the song, the flute is completely replaced with french horns(I think), which is him dawning back his soldier persona and embracing a bigger destiny. The middle is the transition period between the two different personas.
Ironically, Ifan is the one person who DON'T want to be a divine and at low approval, he opposes you because he doesn't want any new divine but not because he wants to become divine and he would leave your party if you want to become a new divine.
@@gengarsmaster3529 Larian really did a good job on Ifan, my first playthrough i played as Ifan, and his story and dialogue affected my final decision, that i decided to share all the source and not to become a divine, just like you said, Ifan don't want to be a divine
1:50 (Spoiler) This part of the song played just when Ifan was about to strike down Alexander at the Elven Temple. Gave me chills, such an amazing soundtrack.
When you invest 100+ hours into your first playthrough as Fane just to realize in the very end that Ifan was the intended protagonist and the whole game is basically his story...
I kind of like having Ifan and Sebille in my party, the tense atmosphere they give when they speak to each other. Tho speaking to them with a custom character can be fun too.
I've been playing with Ifan as my Lohse's companion, and honestly his story is amazing, it's as compelling to me as Lohse's... His dialogue, quirky combacks to her little comments, his emotions, it's all amazing. Next playthrough I'll be playing as him.
when i played this game i always played as either red prince or normal lizard character for the fire breath then for my team i used Beast Fane and Ifan
i choose ifan for his voice similar to lucian from Divine Divinity and look, I will be always beside Lucian to defend true divine. becouse in my favorite larian game Divine Divinity we play as Lucian.
Frankly I miss Lucian from the older titles up until Ego Draconis so badly. Let's ignore that the timelines don't make sense, his storyline with the entire Damian arc over Divine and Beyond Divinity was amazing
One of my fav games. Amazing soundtrack, amazing everything. I crave this game every few months . Excellent job . I'm one of the pickiest gamers ever but larian basically read my mind on an almost nearly perfect game
To me Ifan represents the fragile flute in the beginning, the other instruments that join the tune represent the companions. In the end every instrument has transformed into a more powerful version of themselves, which in turn transforms the entire scope of the music.
My interpretation was more that the song as a whole represents Ifan's story. The instruments shift with every stage of his life, starting with the simple tones of childhood, adding the militaristic rythm of the Divine Order and, for a moment, the darker strings of the Lone Wolves. But, in the end, his glorious soul wakes up, yearning for something more.
I honestly just realized but in my playthrough with Fane and Ifan with lone wolf talent, that I got their roles kind of reversed. Fane is a Necromancer/Geomancer/retribution fighter/tank with huge health pool and some skills in aero for elemental damage And I made Ifan a wizard, with massive stats in int, memory and some in cont and pyro/hydro for elemental variety. Between Fane's geomancy/poison pools interacting with the puddles left by Ifan's rain/frost skills and the different way they combo off of each other it's honestly insane. Fane gets set on fire almost every fight because poison explodes and Ifan just LOVES setting everything on fire. (Don't worry, Fane is OK because he has fortify!) Just thought it was really cool how the two classes combo so naturally well. Almost don't even need healing potions when Fane has poison to heal from and Ifan has regenerate.
What about the ost/theme we hear in the character creation of ifan (Origin story) preview ? it sounds a lot more amazing. But its not in the soundtrack. You know the origin story clips
I dug around the entire soundtrack for the last god knows how long. Looks like Damashi's right though, it sounds like a version without the flute instruments.
DOS2 soundtrack is better than BG3's. Fewer tracks with recycled motifs, higher number of catchier tracks. Thats why I was a bit disappointed with BG3's soundtrack even though it is still very very good.
I love this song, but dislike Ifan And by "dislike" I mean that in my first playthrough, Ifan got killed literally at the start of Fort Joy, and I found it so funny, that since then I kill him every run I play
Ironic that the character that at first seems like the most "vanilla" has maybe the most compelling story in the game
I took him because he looked hot ... And then I fell in love with the character I made ...😅😅
I wish more people gave him a chance. It seems like people see "vanilla" and stop there and never invest in his story. It's a shame. He's great.
its the game's fault if you ask me :( I thought Lohse was special. I was so wrong
Fane over ifban, ifban over anyone else

I don't know what you're talking about his story sucks, it's just doing the main quest as everyone else, it's totally not a unique story of his own
Ifan is so thoughtful and well-written. He is my favorite in this game and I will always love him as a character.
The theme of the man that challenges the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit of their world

beautifully put.
well done Justin Bieber
I love the entire soundtrack of this game. i don’t even know how to describe it all, it’s just amazing
When I first saw Ifan, I was expecting him to be a werewolf as like a plot twist because of how he was presented, to be honest lol
That would've been awesome
He has spirit wolf so kinda that' true
his aesthetic is to match his former allegiance to the lone wolves
ifan, the most
thought-provoking hero
Best of all characters themes. Ifan is born to become the Divine.

I absolutely love this style of music. Reminds me of how great the music was in Witcher 3.

did ifan just blink??? i.... think im replaying it too much
isn't it one of the greatest soundtracks of all time, in the video game industry?
This deadass sounds like a Movie Trailer theme by the end
one of the best ost after ''lucian theme'' from Divine Divinity (in this game entire ost is masterpiece) and ballad from Divinity 2
I began the game thinking ifan got it all wrong and somehow it was his fault and o boy the revelations....
Simply beautiful, my favorite of the soundtrack!
its good
That is a bit of an understatement
Due to an unfortunate mishap, poor Ifan got himself Murked in Fort Joy thanks to a stray poison grenade. Ripperoni wolfman.

Well the composer is Bulgarian so there's definitely going to be some eastern european inspirations in his style, just like The Witcher's soundtrack.

Should I play as Ifan or should he be in my party? This theme fucking rocks
I think I'm excited for BG3 more for Borislav than I am the gameplay.. and I'm REALLY excited for the gameplay.
This is also the song that plays at the oil tower fight.
