- Jamie Acord was with her husband, walking along the beach in Maine, when she suddenly got stuck in quicksand. Acord says the quicksand was up to her waist and her arms were on top of the sand. Thankfully, Acord's husband was able to pull her out. Survival expert Shane Hobel showed Inside Edition's Alison Hall how to get out of sinking sand. Hobel says to not wiggle and that the best way to get out is by using a stick.
So a wooden stick just appears out of nowhere for your convenience lol wtf
yep it ill just spawn in front of you like a video game
@@flybetayou’re both wrong, she already had it in her inventory lol
HAHAHA
😂😂😂
This did actually happen to me once, on a backpacking trip in New Zealand for which I was ill-prepared, and at risk of missing my scheduled shuttle back to the hostel. I had gotten trench foot from poorly fitting and waterlogged boots, so I could barely walk, and had sbout 4 miles left and 2 hours to get there. I did not have trekking poles. I said a prayer, asking God to help me out, because as a woman I was not about to hitchhike in the middle of nowhere after 39 miles hiked with trench foot! I stood up, looked down, and lo and behold was a walking stick of perfect size and composition in a place with no trees where it could have originated from. I gleefully swung myself with the stick, running down the rest of that trail praising the Lord, took a war cry selfie as I ran across the exit bridge, and launched myself and my pack into the shuttle van which had pulled up and rolled open the door as I was crossing the bridge. When life gets hard, I often remind myself of that story to remember that God provides,😅😂🎉 Ironically, on another backpacking trip in New Zealand, I did actually step into quicksand…that time I did have trekking poles, which saved me from it, so this feels rather full-circle. Moral of the story: always hike with trekking poles!
A good rule of thumb to never get stuck in quick sand is to only walk on slow sand.
Avoid Bolt sand at all costs
And NEVER EVER go into ludicrous sand ( space balls reference)
Dad joke😂
Bruh
word!
Growing up, I thought quicksand would be more of a threat to adult me than it is.
Facts. I think in my 30 years of life this is the first time I have seen a headline about quicksand.
John Mulanney 😂
@vanessahobbes3072 im 37, and I think this is the second time for me... I'd like to thank National Geographic and Crocodile Dundee for the misinformation 😆
@@saohengyoung5785 imma have to look it up
Yep, it was awfully dangerous on Gilligan's Island!
I like how she pretended to be stuck in sand at the end. All they were missing was a stick expert
True, it wasn’t even quicksand when she did the example… just buried feet in regular sand
yeah fr like i actually thought she was stuck in real quicksand for a second lol
Or a stepbro
@@serialseatsniffer5610 ok bro 💀💀
I'll make sure to always have a big stick in my pocket.
There's a joke there somehow.
👍😂
"It can happen in an instant." 90s irrational quicksand fear re- unlocked.
Another tip from the 1990's:
Stop, drop and roll if you catch on fire.
I have seen videos of this not working, it’s not pretty
I remember learning that in preschool. Thankfully I never had to do it
And from the 60s: You can hide from nukes under a desk.
Like a stick is just gonna appear out of nowhere for you, I’m dying!😂
😂
So if I get stuck in quicksand I should call Crocodile Dundee. Got it, thanks
Dont forget the stick that randomly appears near you 😂
Thanks for the advice. I'll have to use my telekinesis to bring that stick to me though...
😂😂
worst news report and advice. not actually in quick sand and using a stick that magically appeared .
It sure look like the host was NOT in quicksand.
She was in slow sand 😂
“I don't like sand. It's coarse and rough and irritating and it gets everywhere.”
anakin?
May the Force be with you
I went to the beach 2 weeks ago , before I left I rinsed out my water shoes thoroughly, when I got home I hosed them down again. I was going to get in the pool today and I literally was still shaking sand put of those shoes haha. I hate it especially when it gets in your mouth somehow. Nothing like eating only to bite down on a gritty piece of sand. I honestly wonder how much sand coast people ingest in a years time.
Love that Quote from Star Trek.
I find your lack of faith disturbing....
That's why Theodore Roosevelt said carry a big stick. He wanted us to be prepared for quicksand.
You're more buoyant in quicksand than water
Mythbusters tested it
Gillian’s Island taught me all I needed to know about quicksand
😂 My first thought went to Gilligan’s Island!!😂😂😂😂
Don't wiggle that's the worst thing to do but when he tells her how to get out the first thing he does is to make sure to wiggle your feet what kind of contradicting yourself there Mr survivalist
wiggling without an anchor is the problem. If you wiggle without something like a stick to put your body weight on you will be at risk of sinking more as your weight is just going down. Having a stick on more solid ground transfers that weight, which allows to to wiggle yourself out.
Great, next time a huge stick will just be lying around when I need it.
if u didn't listen since clearly you dont you can lay on your back or front and crawl out since you're creating more surface tension harder to sink
goofy
Quite possibly not.. then we’ll literally be in a sticky situation 🤣
Right?!😂😂😂...
Usually quicksand can be found in rainforest, some Islands, and desserts. Really it can be found in those places.
There is a survival consultant for everything nowadays
I'm glad she's ok🙏
I thought quick sand was a Western film myth.
It is. This isn't quicksand, it's sand.
It's not a myth. Go find a swamp and find out
It mostly is. It's just sand so saturated with water that you sink in it, like water. It shouldn't pull you under like in the movies, but you can get well and truly stuck. You can crawl out, if you're not in too deep, the trick is don't panic.
I have found it before. Try to fall forward or backwards. And crawl out .in water it can get a little scary. But in Alaska it's extremely dangerous people die every year. Some places the tide comes in the a wave. Called a boar tide.
It's danger is kinda myth. You don't usually fully sink all the way into it.
However you can get trapped and dying of thirst if you never get out
1:05 I didn't know that quicksand and giant survival sticks came together in a package !
If you live near the beach you will never get quicksand out of your house
Don't wiggle BUT slow wiggle 😅
So, is there always a stick around where you get stuck in quicksand?
Yes. They grow from it naturally.
Ideal situation. She had a backpack with her. Use that as the "stick". Basically anything with a large surface area. Source: Bear Grylls
Next it'll be "Man gets stuck in snow on mountain."
😂😂
😂😂😂😂
They couldn't find quick sand, so they buried her feet in regular sand lol
My childhood fear of quicksand has reappeared
Same .. Its been twice in 2 days on here now 😮
Thank God she had someone there to help her! I would be freakin'.
"I just looked at my husband and said, 'I can't get out, can you pull me out." He thought about it for awhile, and about 30 minutes later he decided to help.
Walk softly and carry a big Stick. 🤣🤣🤣
Good thing it was the wife and not the husband because I can’t see her pulling him out all by herself.
Be real... who has a big stick while walking on the Beach?
George Carlin said when he was a kid he just had a stick. Smart man.
It is good that there is always a stick for the spot when you fall in quicksand ..😅😂
You sure the best way to get out isn’t by pulling on a giant snake?
Noted. Make sure to get stuck in quick sand with a giant stick that can withhold my weight just beside it.
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂magic big stick duh
So you're telling me my 90s childhood fears of quick sand were totally rational...
Other than being bitten by a shark this would be anybody's worst nightmare😮
I've waited my entire life to find the elusive quicksand and this lady just dances into it like its nothing. NOT FAIR!
Note to self. When walking on the beach ,always carry a big stick lollololol
Reporter is stunning
That thumbnail has a"hey stepbro I am stuck" vibe 😅
Video says dont wiggle and expert says slow wiggle. Nice
I'll take 1980s childhood fears for 100 Alex
Mr. Expert, I don't have thick stick in my inventory, help!!! Should I reset?
Imagine the reporter got stuck on live TV
Would definitely need a step bro at that point
@@serialseatsniffer5610 ...
Here is the Ancient CHINESE PUZZLE - "Man use use large stick to exit quicksand, but man cannot exit quick sand to get stick without using stick to get out of quick sand to get stick.
90% of all "This is how you will surive" tricks involves getting access to items you will NEVER have!!
Big stick my a**
Shouldn't put the stick up there. He told you to use it to get out.
I just bought a huge stick from Amazon to carry around.
Don't wiggle but use a stick then wiggle😂😂😂😂
Well, that de-escalated quickly
The "quicksand" the reporter got stuck one was just as hole
those 60s-70s cartoons made me extremely concerned about the risk of quicksand
Beach list
1. Water
2. Food
3. Stick
😂😂😂😂
How can you find a stick IF you don't have one
Didn't know CaseOh is married.
the sand that named quick but gets give u slow instead
This is worse than just a jungle quicksand, and it's everywhere badly.
conclusion : carry on you a wooden stick when u go to the beach 24/7
Mostly alot of people - ill just pray to God to help me ( 5 mins later all you see is 🙏 sticking out of the quicksand) 😂
So in order for me in this situation to get a stick is to also become Spider-Man.
“oh my god that’s quicksand” yeah thanks buddy for noticing that 💀
Quick sand!! Hurry head for the slow sand.
I thought you could just lie down, spreading your arms wide and then slowly crawl out of quicksand
What to do if you dont have a stick:
Lean back as far as you can, spreading yourself out across as much surface as you can occupy. Then, rotate your toes/feet in a circular motion to move as much sand as you can, work your toes up to the surface, kind of...
The objective is to make little bits of room to pull your legs up as much as can. If you can pull yourself up even just a little bit, try your best to crawl out.
...I wonder if I can slowly dig myself out in worst case scenario (And obviously throw sand everywhere as far away from me as possible).
Insider Edition videos remind of Onion News Network's skits for some reason 😂😅
I live near popham Beach in Phippsburg Maine it's beautiful place
As a boy, I thought the world was filled with quicksand.
The lady in the pink shorts is not the same woman being interviewed; trying to trick me lol
I thought you were supposed to lean backwards, not go forward. Phew lucky I haven't been stuck in quicksand and needed to get out! 😅
I love going to the beach but sometimes I’m scared of stepping on the sand because these quicksands 😭😱
I’ve seen this video many times. Usually they get stuck in the dryer or refrigerator though! ❤❤
For someone that has never seen quicksand or even heard of it in America this is really great information
INCONCEIVABLE! Watch out for the rodents of unusual size too!
I thought quicksand wasn't real.
Me too🤨
It's sand saturated with water.
Usually quicksand can be found in rainforest, some Islands, and desserts. Really it can be found in those places.
You'll make it sound like stick will come outta thin air
She was literally in the sunken place.
Since we're all Spiderman/woman. Remember we can always get a wooden stick very easily when your body is halfway into the earth...
it says don’t wiggle but the man said wiggle slowly😅
What if you cant find the magical wood.
Remember don’t walk on sand that’s wet…isn’t there wet sand everywhere?
Well someone can always toss me a rat snake to grab onto and yell at me to “Grab the rope!”
Thank God she didnt sink further and her husband was able to pull her out. I think in cases like this, we should be cautious in approaching the person stuck in the sand because who knows we might end up sinking in the sand too.
As Teddy Roosevelt often said: "speak softly and carry a big stick; you will go far".
I would think in that situation where you're ankle deep you, I don't know... use your hands to dig yourself out.
Like how its just dry sand, her free foot isnt sinking as she's trying to pull the buried 1 out
Another thing you can do is add water. Quicksand is a non-newtonian fluid similar to cornstarch and water, meaning it has to strike a certain balance in order to maintain the consistency that defines it. Adding water loosens it and makes it possible to get free.
Where to get a big strong stick in a beach lol
Happened to me in Hawaii while wading in the surf. Thankfully, it wasn't fully liquefied, so i was able to get out with minimal effort without much help
That's good advice - IF - you have a wooden stick, or any stick for that matter. If you're by yourself, just prepare to sink some more or hope someone passes by to laugh at you and then help.
Really deep watery mud. If a fairly large patch catches you off-guard and you hit it really hard, you could be in some serious trouble really fast.
what if we didnt have a giant stick???
What if there's no stick 😢
When I was in high school in Reedley,Ca. My girlfriends and I found quicksand at a river beach. We called The Curve. We talked a couple who wanted to meet down there. Got them stuck went to town got frosties came back ! Still there …. Mad as hell!
you think I would get this stick to help me when I get stuck into quicksand wtf, do you think I have the sticker in my inventory? in case of emergency!
During a beach backpacking trek in New Zealand, I crossed over a section of shallow water that looked to be a stream where rainfall was running off toward the ocean, about a foot deep. I placed my foot, and as I was sinking, quickly realized it was quicksand . On instinct, I just as quickly swung out my trekking pole into another section and launched myself out of it. I was very thankful for the trekking pole, which I had found under the stairs in the student flat where i was living, since i hsd been too cheap/poor to purchase one.
