Another tip- for portraits use the longest zoom setting (that’s practical) with the closest distance to subject for the best subject-background separation. You’ll actually get a little bokeh

A fun accessory that you can get pretty cheaply is a little SD card reader for your phone or tablet (either lightning or USB-C) and you can transfer to your phone or tablet on the go so you don't have to mess with the computer and airdropping and all that.

Some hidden gems are the Ricoh Digital GR camera's (not to be confused with the newer aps-c sensor ones). These have a ccd sensor with a very nice black and white color profile and the Ricoh Digital GRiii even focuses at 1cm which is insane not even the newer models can do that.

Old DSLR cameras with CCD sensors can give you that "film" look and offer countless interchangeable lens options. I picked up a Nikon D200 and best part, it only cost around for only $50-$100. Coupled that with the ability to use hundreds of vintage manual focus Nikon F-mount lenses, this is my digital film camera.

I enjoy using a Fujifilm FinePix AX655 for its 16MP CMOS sensor in such a tiny package. It is always in my every day carry bag I take to work. Lately, I have been leaving it in B&W mode as its default setting. Because it is 16MP, I can throw away the weirdness on the outside of the image, distortions, etc. If I still have 10 or 12MP remaining, that is still going to work for sharing on FB.

I own or have shot with a ton of these digicams. In regards to the Canon Powershot cameras, you really should look for more than cool shapes or fun colors. For instance, the SD1000 shown here has the smallest sensor of the entire line, meaning poor low light performance and overall not so great photos. The models in the SD line to look for are the SD900, which has the same sensor and image processor as the Powershot G7. The 950IS, which has the same sensor and processor as the G9 and the 990IS, which has the same sensor and processor as the G10. The 950 and 990 also have image stabilization and titanium bodies which are excellent. You also have the SD500/550, which have slightly smaller but still very good 1/1.8" sensors. Then you have the newer Powershot S cameras. Again, look for specific models. The S90/S95/S200 have the same sensor and processor from the G11 and G12. The S100/110 have the same sensor and processor as the G15 and the S120 has the same sensor and processor as the G16. It should be noted that starting with the S90/S95, Canon went from CCD to CMOS sensors, so you need to get one of the prior S model cameras if you want the CCD sensors. I would avoid the rest of the SD lineup as they have tiny sensors, average lenses and cheap build quality, especially the newer ones made in China rather than Japan like the older ones. Have fun

I've had a bunch o' digicams over the span of this year, most notably these two: my Nikon Coolpix L27 (16MP), and my current MVP: the Canon SX210 IS with CHDK (14.1MP); really good quality, amazing picture quality, long battery life, and overall a great time! i had some other digicams that i sold to my close friends (a big chunky Olympus (14MP), and another Canon like mine w/ capacitive touch (16MP)), other than two more complete lemons: a Polaroid w/ a slide to activate mechanic (12MP, pretty crappy), and another Canon SD1200 IS (10MP) that has something wrong w/ it's internal gears; gives me a lense error. All-in-all: it's been a great, cheap, and fun experience for me, 8/10, would recommend!
Edit: and i also have a Sony RX100 that has a broken gear, currently trying to fix it.

I´ve been shooting these kinda cameras before it was hype (since 2009).
I have a Samsung WB 600 (from March 2010), a Olympus XZ-2 (from 2012) in my camera collection.
The WB 600 only shoots 12 mpx JPEG & f/3.2 on the wide end is honestly a pain to use if it isn´t sunny outside. The 2GB (sic!) SD card stores a ton.
Olympus XZ-2: I love it! Love the bright f/1.8 aperture. But hate the absolutely slow C-AF.
I´d suggest: use Lightroom (even if it costs 5.49 bucks a month).

Fun video, i recently got into digicams to go along with my larger fuji x system. For me i feel the key is having a CCD sensor, thats the main difference between older cameras and todays cameras. If you look out for one thing, its a CCD sensor in my view. I run a Canon G10 which is a 14.7mp CCD sensor, probably one of the last CCD sensors in an easy to find camera. Love the build quality and professional ergos, it has a great lens and can shoot RAW if needed or wanted. it even has customiseable 'film simulations' nothing like my fuji but its there.

I recently got a Casio exilim EX-H10 from my grandpa, and the quality is definitely lacking, between shooting film and my x100t, the only benefit I get from shooting on the exilim is convenience.

100% on battery life. I have the S95 and like using it for video but that kills the battery life.

Nice video mate, been shooting the s95 raw for a while now. Love the camera and the images, managed to snag it for $30 👀

Why do I get the top end 2003 digicam (Minolta Dimage Z1) for like 9 dollars and it doesnt even have a film like look? It was like 700 at launch and it got down to 9. Made in japan, whopping 3.2 megapixels, 10 x optical zoom, and it doesnt even look film-ish

What kind of film look are you trying to achieve?
If you want grainy, then high ISO can add noise, which some people say looks like film. If you want bright colors like say Fuji Velvia, increase saturation and maybe adjust the color curve in postprocessing to be warmer.
I used a Minolta dImage, lovely camera. It was my first "prosumer" digital and gave lots of control. It especially was good for macro photography.

I have a collection of over 50 of the Canon digicams from the very first upwards. And yes they are fun but old Samsung S10 just takes way better images...I use them to constrain my narrative by using a tiny SD card to limit picture taking and create focus. Oh and I use the good old Picasa 3 to tweak the images

the downfall of digicam is their stinginess in lens spec, 2.8 - 5.6 with tiny sensor ? how you convince people to stop using their f1.8 camera phone with better image most of the time

    • @Balls_haver
      @Balls_haver Před 4 měsíci

It's not about the specs or image quality at all tho. Digicams gives charming pics, not good quality.
