Artemis is awesome. I just discovered it now. These ladies play jazz like the old masters. Bravo. 👍🏻

I like your jazz: so much energy. And what a pleasure it was looking at the record spinning, while listening. Something I had forgotten.

I love the entire album but Frida by Melissa Aldana is my favorite. I can’t stop repeating that track. Plus I also had the pleasure of seeing Artemis perform at the Montclair Jazz festival a few months ago and met Melissa Aldana at the Exit Zero Jazz Festival in Cape May NJ. Also purchased an album of her’s as well.😊

Been listening with joy. Puts me in mind of 'Liberation Music Orchestra' (Charlie Haden), so inspiring in 1968!

I only get one (new) record a month these days. It was a toss up between this and the new Bill Frisell record "Valentine" (also just released on Blue Note). This won. Artemis is a phenomenal and compelling record from start to finish. And for me, an amazing discovery as I have not heard of any of these marvelous musicians (shame on me). But I was literally on Wikipedia searching all of them as I was listening. What an awesome collective.
"Big Top" (Side 1, track 4) sounds like something Leonard Bernstein might have composed. Loved the take on "If It's Magic" (Side 2, track 1), a gentle reminder that Stevie Wonder's music still needs to be heard now more than ever, in any setting. It's also nice to hear a clarinet in a jazz ensemble, and Anat Cohen's work on "Step Forward" (Side 2, track 3) and "Cry, Buttercup, Cry" (Side 2, track 4) brings home the point . Allison Miller's shadings on the drums are magical throughout. But I don't want to play favorites. These women are ALL fantastic and all have their moments to shine. The album's closer "The Sidewinder" is a beautifully paid homage to Lee Morgan's original and a reminder that Blue Note's legacy still thrives. Artemis makes it their own and carries that legacy forward.
I hope they will make it out to the Jazz Center in San Francisco for a gig or three when this pandemic nightmare assault on the arts is over. I will be in the audience.
So glad that Blue Note posts new releases to give us the chance to discover. And to Bill Frisell, you'll be my new record next month!

I bought the digital download of this album after watching the interview of Artemis by Don Was. The snippets in that CZcams video were convincing. I've been really enjoying the album. I listen to it while walking around the neighborhood. The compositions are really wonderful, and I am really enjoying the solos you all take. I was already familiar with the music of only some of the band members, and I'm happy to make the musical acquaintances of the others via this album. Meanwhile,
    1. Thank you, Blue Note, for making the whole thing available on CZcams.
    2. Why is it so satisfying to listen to this music while watching the video of the LP spinning? This is great. Please do more of this.

I'm twenty minutes into this album and loving it. Have been familiar with Rosnes and Cohen for a few years; everyone else is new to me- and they're all intriguing. As a side note, if anyone else is familiar with Brad Mehldau's After Bach album, tell me I'm wrong for wishing Rosnes would do something similar with Chopin's Etudes.
