Finally, I noticed that the suppose Windows Longhorn and Windows Vista Beta startup and shutdown sounds are actually from a 2003 Samsung theme for Windows XP and it never were used officially in beta versions of Vista. Windows Longhorn and Windows Vista Beta actually used the same startup and shutdown sounds as Windows XP. Also, since Windows 8 the shutdown sound was removed and the startup sound is disabled by default.
Windows XP sounds like heaven.

NT 4: Looking upon the earth from space, then a ship dropping very very slowly out of warp.
NT 5: A very bad warp drive landing that eventually resolves itself and drops you right smack bang in the middle of an absolutely beautiful nebula with twinkling things all around you and in the ship. Then, the same thing as NT 4.
Win 98: An android's first sight, first steps, with a light sprinkling of unadulterated joy. Then, floating in a pool.
Win 2000/Win ME: Astronauts stepping out of their capsule, to the light of their Sun through their atmosphere, once more.
Win XP: Sunrise from space, or a solar eclipse.
Longhorn: Staring into heaven, or maybe the middle of a nebula, brilliant reds and greens and blues flashing all around you, thin strands of gas parting before you.
Win Vista/7: Earthrise on the Moon, and not really much else THANK YOU UNIMAGINATIVE SHUTDOWN SOUND THIS IS WHY I USE A LONGHORN SCHEME.

Vista Beta sounded like something out of an Eric Whitacre composition.
This brought back so many awesome memories of computing as a child :)
Some of the sounds (I'm lookin' at you Windows ME/2000 startup and Windows XP startup sounds) didn't seem to be totally faithful to the original, but that may just be the way things sound when extremely slowed down.
This makes it sound over 9000 times more epic to start up your computer. It's as though Gandalf had a laptop and it ran Windows.

I don't know if it is just me, but I think the Windows logos should have stayed the way they were with 3.1-ME, I love that design, and it should have stayed with the clouds design, too. Even though Vista's was the most beautiful designed, Windows should have stuck with the classic logo with with clouds, it was very beautiful that way, too.

Vista Beta and 98 are simply stunning. Made a 95 one myself. :) Will probably do the same with 98. I added a soft drone bass for my 95 one. Gives it a kind of Steve Roach vibe.
