I had casually crocheted for about a decade, and recently joined r/knitting to learn to knit. The very first swatch I posted, I got a comment that said, "Your stockinette [most basic and recognizable knitting stitch] is twisted. Here's the link to fix it" and the link was someone who had documented every way to wrap and loop the stockinette stitch to twist or not twist with your preferred method of knitting/purling (there are 16 combos, btw). Because I like knitting and wanted to get better, I appreciated the link, but god I feel bad for the poor souls getting into a hobby casually that aren't looking for that kind of commitment lmao.

@@toxic_narcissist personally, when I'm new to something or doing something casually, I'm not interested in tips or criticisms. Maybe there's some sensitiviy there, but it's moreso that I want to play and have fun, instead of max my skills.
This is especially true for me with new video games, where i know I'm doing things "wrong" but i also know I'm having hella fun experiencing a game for the first time and just learning through play. Tips take away my opportunity to play and explore and just see what i can do.
And then if I'm actually trying to get good at something & I'm past that early exploration phase, i love constructive feedback.

Started with a 5 gallon betta fish tank from Petco.
Found the aquarium subreddit and suddenly I have a dedicated fish room with 7 tanks with CO2 systems, pink crypts, and rare imported tropical fish. I'm even planning a trip to the Amazon river to see how freshwater aquarium fish are caught...

Good thing you started with a pretty big fish tank for one fish. If you went with anything smaller than a large bowl then that's how you'd get the wrath of aquarium reddit. Any of the hobby subs involving living things are a living hell

Hahaha, I was going to make a comment on this video about how this happened to me with aquariums... thank you for saving me the trouble. I had a 5 gallon with a betta, now up to 6 tanks. The main problem is that I could easily talk for an hour about water chemistry and microfauna, and how I created complete functioning ecosystems, and it sometimes makes me a little mad that nobody wants to hear about it. Good luck with the Amazon trip, although I'd check out gvr's alternate recommendations. I've heard only bad things about wild catching of fish from the Amazon, unfortunately. I'm currently trying to breed corys in really hard water so I can start a local supply for my town, a far better option for the fish than wild imports.

This is what I love the most about the Internet. not these skits(though I do love them a lot)but the fact that there are entire communities built around so many things, and the excitement and wonder of finding them. It’s that sense of community that can never be achieved in person, outside of maybe a convention. It’s… addictive.
I appreciate this comment because a lot of the comments on this video seem to be criticizing this mindset, and although I'd agree that snobbishness sucks, it is cool that you can go so insanely deep into whatever you want through online communities. And it's not like it's really that new, it's just more accessible -- tea culture has been an insanely deep rabbit hole community for thousands of years for example.

The trick is not to learn everything at first. Work your self up. Try different waters and find what you like. I don't think ice is right or wrong. It is a preference.
Later go to some claner water. Once youve mastered those, youre ready to drink some brand waters like Smart or Fiji

My middle school science teacher was incredibly passionate about her belief that Dasani was far superior to Aquafina. When she did acidity tests, she once found water from Aquafina to be close to a pH of 3, so bad that she attempted to contact the company about the issue.

I think he wanted to balance out the speed of the water as well as the enjoyment of the activity so none are too fast or slow
Well, you see- a short and wide glass is going to ensure a more even sip across the pallet along with a higher water velocity.

Y'all are missing a pretty important detail here: He wants maximum travel velocity down the throat, to decrease time spent without water in the mouth and decrease choking. Actually, you’re wrong. According to a certain law in physics (I can’t remember the name, I’ll edit the comment when I do) The difference in height and width of the cylinder won’t have any effect on the potential energy of the water flow. It looks like it should be approximately the same in this case. The water pressure is still the same, the viscosity of the water is the same, and of course gravity hasn’t changed, ergo it shouldn’t effect the water flow at all.
But is the mouth opened wider by a wider or narrower glass? Flow rate of a substance is a function of the internal pressure of the substance and the cross sectional area of the opening through which it's flowing (this is intuitive at extremes: a pin prick hole has decreased flow rate from a vast opening).
Either way though, as I said, it's irrelevant due to the tasting phase.

Now that I discovered the subreddit I learned that my hobby is a lot more complicated than I expected, and I am convinced that I have to invest at least $4,000 for the proper equipment, before I can start to drink again. And even then I am rather in the beginner's price range. Also the exercises and everything. It actually stresses me. I think i am not good at drinking water. I watch a few medieval weapon enthusiast channels. Just for fun really. I just like the look and design of the weaponry and armor in general.
These channels are quite respectful, like Skalagrim or Shadiversity.
So in defense of r/swords, even though I don't have reddit and don't care to have it, you can still very much discuss weaponry and enjoy detailed explanations, theories, etc...without therefore being disrespectful. Conversely, if a person doesn't really know what he/she's talking about and mentions something completely false with utmost certainty and no evidence, it's entirely justified if more knowledgeable people then chastise this person.
That isn't really about going against mainstream media and more about ensuring factual information is supported over non-factual nonsense.
There is no such thing as having a hobby that's disrespectful on it's own right (so long as it doesn't put people into harms way, of course), it's more that certain behavior is toxic, and literally every single community has a vocal toxic minority.

I played dnd for a bit and got a little too into it at the time, part of which came from being on several dnd subreddits. The way people talk about the game, multiclass builds to get more powerful, debate good, bad and underused spells, and debate the exact wording of different rules within the game to the point that specifying RAW (rules as written) vs RAI (rules as intended) is a refrain on almost every post. And don’t get me started on the people who feel the need to post all of their calculations for average damage in the chat. It was fun for a minute, but now I realize that I just want to sit around a table with some friends, play a silly game, and have some fun adventures.

Verty is strictly better, verty glasses have a much higher volume on average which means more hydration per glass, and I consider hpg the most important metric when it comes to picking out glasses to drink from.
TheRaptorsClaw.. I’m curious where you have received this information from. Because on average, horys do indeed have more volume for getting maximum hydration. Furthermore, horys are more comfortable to hold, therefore horys have less of a chance of spilling and wasting your pristine water.
@@Dizee. most horys can only get so wide to increase volume before you have to use two hands, and I truly believe a verty is easier to grasp, you don't have to stretch your hand so wide. Retains that comfortable hand feel.
TheRaptorsClaw.. If you must use two hands to grasp a hory without dropping it, you’re most likely a child. I strongly recommend that children don’t get into professional water drinking until around the age of 18. Also, after placing down a hory on a flat surface, the base of the hory is a lot wider than a verty, therefore giving it a way less likely chance of spilling your precious water. The surface area on the base of a verty is way more prone to fall and shatter, and potentially injure somebody. That is why I recommend using horys to decrease your chances of death.

I recently got interested in mechanical keyboards, was immediately called out for choosing to buy a brand keyboard rather than building my own/buying enthusiast level as my first mechanical, when I mentioned that it was a K70 M.2 with MX reds. All I wanted to know is why it seemed like people though reds were useless for typing, because I was having no issues doing program code with them.
The elitism and gatekeeping in niche communities is frankly ridiculous.

@@okuno54 I do a fair amount of writing too, and the only real complaint I can consider with the reds is that I occasionally worry I'm coming down to hard on them when trying to speed-type at train of thought speeds. Under normal circumstances I'm not even fully depressing them, I hit them to roughly the same depth as my previous rubber dome keyboard, and have yet to have any issues with failures to register, or even doubling.
None of my local stores carry mechanicals, let alone in a format where you can test before purchase. I actually wound up choosing reds, because I thought about the idea of a 'tactile' switch that feels different halfway down and came to the conclusion that sounded like it would feel jarring. Also heavier input necessary on the common types.
Meanwhile, the reds are actually pretty close to the level of force needed for most rubber domes.
