It's funny, I work at PetSmart and I agree 100 percent. The information that we have is not factual at all. That's why I'm watching this and reading more about them so that I can actually educate customers and myself as I'm looking to get a tortoise soon. I love your channel btw.
If the customers don’t know what they need for the tortoise they shouldn’t be getting one
Also a pet smart worker! Here doing my research and loving every second
@@noname-mu6kn thats why they ask the sellers about the tortoise.
7:20 oh my goodness, that whole interaction made my heart melt 🥺and the little thumbs up 👍 was adorable ☺️
Glad you noticed that ❤️❤️☺️
Oh my goodness that beautiful baby girl looks so much like her daddy! What a fantastic upbringing for a child to have, much love to your family and the wonderful critters! 😙♥️
Yeah, that smile look she gave was just heart melting
What a SWEET baby girl! Patient, happy, and sitting perfectly listening to her Daddy’s tortoise facts 🥹☺️😍. GOOD JOB Ella!
WHO CUT HER HAIR?
She’s a cutie pie

I agree Ella is so cute.
@@anthonyiodicelooks like she just woke up from her nap while Daddy was trying to film lol
I came here to learn about tortoises and I’m in complete awe witnessing your relationship with your little girl. 🥰
I love that you didn't redo that take where your daughter gave you her drawing - you didn't treat it as a mistake and not only carried on but complimented her. I'm sure she enjoys being around dad while he talks about turtles 😊
He is talking about tortoises not turtles.
@@danielledewitt1tortoises are turtles
@@shawol5253 If they were turtles they’d live in water.
@@danielledewitt1 ah, tortoises live on land but are still turtles, they're just a type of turtle. The box turtle lives on land but is not a tortoise.
@@shawol5253 Tortoises are not turtles.
I love the little ones. Here in Michigan some people are still stealing babies. I love seeing your daughter being able to hang out and help out. Teach them young.
I've wanted to get a tortoise for years now, and I'm finally looking at my options. I currently live in Utah where it is very dry and goes from 100 degree weather to below freezing throughout the year. This video was really helpful!!
Super informative but best part was Ella smiling at you and giving you a smooch.
What a great video! You can tell your daughter is soaking up all this amazing information. Thank you so much for your videos! Thanks to you my three toed is living his best life! I’ve had him for around 23 years almost 24.
Their shells are so shiny! I love tortoises! They’re pets and they’ll be coming inside during Massachusetts winters! Your daughter is adorable
They use TurtleWax on the shells. 😁🐢
It makes me soo happy to see you doing this. People definitely need education on taking care of these guys
I love learning about the different species of the testudo family. I have an eastern Herman’s tortoise that I got as a baby and is now going on three years old.
So your 3 years old?
@@steakandlemonpie think he was talking about the tortoise lol
Great video! I love seeing your kids interact with and learn about these animals as well. ☺
Love you info..but the baby got me!! She's absolutely precious!
Awww your daughter is too sweet and adorable
I am watching this like I have any intention of keeping a tortoise, lol.
I just like turtles and I love listening to people talk about things they’re clearly passionate about.
I loved how your daughter gave a pet with her hand to the tortoise. Daddy's girl!
As usual Chris! Thank you for all you do. 😊
Thanks Dante!
I absolutely needed this video, I got my eyes on the marginated tortoise. I love their large size.
Thank you for making this video, I really learned alot. I love tortoises. I didn't know there were so many different types of tortoises. I will definitely be checking out your channel more often. 😷👵✌️🇺🇸😀
that's the cutest kid I've seen in a long time, and looks just like you hahahaha. I already feel great wholesome vibes on this channel
I'm the dad of a juvenile marginated (only about 3-4 inches long right now) and he really is a treat. Confident, sociable, and fast! When i take him to the park he runs and eats like there's no tomorrow. He's a real treat
You recommend him?
@@Reptilefamily7 Absolutely. He's much more outgoing than my Russian.
@@shiby7724 I end up with a red footed and an elongated I love them but the red footed is literally a dog bro haha he is asking for food everytime he hear my voice
@@Reptilefamily7 Oh yeah, redfoots are very good motivated lol. My marginated will also come by looking for food from me
I have a red foot tortoise. Your daughter is too adorable. Thank you for the informative video.
She gave the thumbs up of approval 🥺 I’m getting a Marginated tortoise now and no one can stop me
Thanks for this video! I keep tarantulas and want to add 1 reptile to the mix - I think I’ve narrowed in on tortoises now need to do a bunch of research to figure out which species and learn everything I can about the husbandry before I add one to the family. Thanks for this video it’s a great resource to help me narrow down the decision
Man I have to say I love to see the next future of reptile keepers in your videos my son is 2 and he the same way it’s awesome that you include them in your videos and speeches awesome man and great video for today learned something new
I love this video! I have a Russian tortoise and I’ve always felt like he could be kept outside year round here in Texas. But most videos show them inside, so this video has been extremely helpful to me!!
I know he said they can be out doors but can they live indoors?
@@carlalowell7923yeah as long as you regularly change their uvb bulbs
Your baby is your little twin. Not sure how I got your page but now I’m armed with turtle knowledge and I want one for my kids. Thanks for the video!
Thank you so much for your videos I’m always learning something new from them. I live in England and have a female Mediterranean spur and a male Herman’s tortoise. I have had them both for 50 years. The female pretty much does her own thing but the male is the sweetest little animal I have ever owned. He will come and sit on my foot and in his own wayask to be plcked up by raising one leg in the air, he likes nothing more than cuddling into the side of my neck and going to sleep.I’m sure this isn’t normal tortoise behaviour but he enjoys it,and I’m a soft touch and can’t refuse him !!
That’s funny that you expose your soft side. The other am I woke up to a large box turtle climbing across my back..first I thought it was Rodger, my rabbit thinks he’s a dog, but when I reached back to pet him and felt the leg I wasn’t even scared. One had gotten out of his box. I tell people don’t b alarmed in here bc I have a coon that comes in every afternoon to get cat food. I saw one baby. She snatched him up so fast and shoved him above the carport ceiling. Ramona is very smart.
@@tinawindham6958
Thank you for your reply. It’s early morning here in England and said tortoise is snuggled into the side of my neck, and if he could snore I’m sure he would be!!
And you now i watching you channel for many years. Thanks your job i finally don't afraid to stay them outdoors for all year. I made a outdoor enclosure with greenhouse like you and my hermanni tortoises hibernate all winter and everything ok👍 now i will try with horsfield and ibera. I live in Ukraine we have sometimes -15/-20 celsius in winter 🥶
Thank you so much!
Thank you! This is very helpful information. You have taught me so much. I appreciate it
thank you so much for your Work. we need people to understand how to keep tortoises and what to feed them. i See so many wrong things and try to educate people whenever i can.
Make it a series and do a vid for top box turtles, top aquatic turtles, etc
Love this idea.
I adopted my brother’s yellow bellied slider and now I’m obsessed with turtles and tortoises. I love them.
Another great video! Love watching those lil guys!
I have a Hermann's tortoise two years old ..thing is I live in the UK so don't feel safe to keep him outside all year round but he has a six foot enclosure outside for warmer days . I'm looking into cold frames as I know he loves being out in the fresh air and we do get some nice summers
Your doughter is adorable. Realy good and informative Video!
Looking forward to more of your tetsudo species..I am hoping for a video on how to differentiate them, especially when they are babies
Great idea for a video!
That was a great Knowledgeable video
Brilliant vlog as always keep up the good work
Awesome and very informative video! Thank You
Thanks for information about turtles
The Russian tortoises also have quite a personalty. Had 4 of them and they all had a different personalty type😊 Also had one Herman tortoise (the first in this video), thought it was a marginated as well, but I can see you say it’s different in this video, but it was so sweet with a personalty as well😊
Finally found your site, maybe you should list it under the description. Is there a point on Russians tortoises (would be so nice, because I can’t find it), even though I can see, you note them under Herman’s in the video😊 It’s sometimes hard to find ecsactly something on them, and it’s acsurely kind of weird, because so many of us have them in captivity.
As for substrate and lightning in captivity, hope you would maybe make a video about maybe each of them in captivity, and also how to make sure there doesn’t come all different kind of bugs in the substrate, if it is possible to do that. That is the reason why, when I tried it, I took it away, because if you don’t have a big room for that alone like yours, then how to do this? Thank you for making video’s on Russians as well, because have followed many of your other video’s😊👏
The little thumbs up your daughter gave was adorable
Very informative video. Thank you.😊
Thanks, great information.
YES!! MORE VIDEOS LIKE THIS👍🏽
Your video was very informative!
Great educational video. Bless those little thumbs up.
The under side is so pretty and unique. Beautiful!
Great video. Ella is adorable!
This was amazing!
nice video, love your turtles
Thank you!
Wonderful video!!!!!
Good job Chris! 👍🏻😄.. your daughter is such a sweetheart.
Ok first time viewer. I was not expecting the cuteness over load. I appreciate the knowledge. I think I might get back into housing herps. And you're lucky to have such a good child. #fathersmatter
This is amazing 👏 I have said I have a redfoot tort from Kamp Kenan and in Charlotte NC. I love all the torts you shared. It is crazy because I think he likes cooler than hot.
😯Fantastic video👍👍love them ❤
This video was awesome. Thanks for making it. So when you said westerns can live outside in PA and NY you didn’t mention what temperatures are too low. Some winters we get -15 which I have often thought might be too cold for them. Are you saying that those are acceptable winter temps? I have a large pen outdoors planned and it would be great to house them all year outside.
Hi from Italy, I have 2 testudo herman herman, they are fantastic tartoise!
Sono nuova!!! Ho 3 testudo di hermann e 1 greca.....le adoro...adesso sono in letargo....dall'Italia!!!
I love your videos. So much info.
Thank you!
great vid. been wanting 1.1 hermanii's.
Tortellina is a Russian Tortoise and she’s quite personable!! Maybe she’s just extra special!
This is a great video!!!
Awesome video!
I very clearly remember finding a small-ish marginated tortoise in the middle of Athens, Greece at a temple. Incredibly hardy species to be living in the middle of a huge city.
Cool vid, living the dream!
Hey Chris, I was just wondering if maybe you could make a video on how you started keeping Tortoises, I’m interested in getting into it myself but don’t know where to start. Thanks again.
Bro, awesome vid!
Adorable! The tortoises too!
Thank you!
Awesome vid, could you do one on DBT's? The smile and thumbs from your daughter stole the show. So cute.
Just subscribed. Love your style of teaching. It's perfect for me. U kept me engaged 💍
I love this channel
Hi Chris! Thank you for making this video! I did not know a lot of this info. I hope you can make a video that speaks about five advanced tortoise to have. I got an Indian star for my first tortoise and it is definitely a challenge because it does not grow fast, its good at hiding and it cannot be out doors un supervised but I pay attention to it every day. How do you manage your dogs with your tortoises?
Thanks Max! We will definitely do that, although we do keep our Indian stars outside here as well. The dogs are trained from the second they arrive to love and protect the tortoises. It’s all about desensitizing them as young as 8 weeks of age. The only time we ever had an issue with a dog was one we rescued 15 or so years ago. He was already 2 years old and had no clue what they were and didn’t understand.
I love my tortoises💕 and live in Pa. I have 4 different breeds, they do great for me. I wish I had more area to have more tortoises..
My dog found a tortoise in our backyard while we were gardening. My dog kept barking and barking, I just thought he wanted to go inside. I think its a Texas tortoise or so the neighbor told me. By the way your little girl is adorable.
Lindas todas 😍😍😍😍
I have 2 leopard tortoise 4 years old both male great characters love them
Very good episode, and also very nice footage! Well done! Our western hermanni Pebble sends lots of love 🐢
Your videos are great!
Thank you!
Hi Chris, I have been wondering if you keep red foot tortoises? I'm in South Georgia and just got 3 hatchlings about 4 months old. I'm keeping them indoors until they are old and to go outside. I'm wondering if you have any tips on enclosure set-up? Love your videos, love learning about all the types of turtles and tortoises.
I'm loving your videos. I was wondering what are some good books and resources to become a responsible and successful tortoise owner. If you could help that would be amazing. Thank you for your time.
Excellent video. I love them all . I can see why you picked the western hermanns as number 1. They truly are stunning, i have an adult eastern male 10 years old whos about 5.5 inches and 700grams i don't think he will get much bigger.
Thanks so much and good luck with your male, they’re so awesome. 👍🏻
Awsome! Cool tortoises super adorable daughter😊 thanks for sharing😊 god bless💚🐢 P.S i have a dalmation herman and an eastern that was suposed to be dalmation but obviously much different i looks and personality.
I had gopher tortoises when I lived in the Mohave desert. I would release them as fall, what there was of it, came upon Us. My largest “Cactus” actually returned after winters. This was in the 60’s and I was young. I would release them from their enclosure just by opening the door. They usually headed for the marigold beds to eat. They also were given fresh veggies too. Cactus would head for the front door which would be opened so Cactus could come in and eat wet and dry cat food. They allowed Our chuckwalla’s to sun themselves on their backs and were very docile and even friendly. Cactus would follow You around when they ate all they wanted. I guess they knew they had it good because they didn’t try to leave. I was sad to leave them when We moved but it was best for them. I still love tortoises.
I begin to learn and learn more about hermanni tortoise from your website and then go to this CZcams channel.
Hmmm... Which is hardy for beginners of tortoise keeping, western or eastern hermanni tortoise🐢?
So my question is this; I’m researching on how to keep a turtle or tortoise (I’m aware the care is very different) I want to start keeping one as a pet and I’m struggling to find good info. Your video has been extremely good! I’m just wondering whether or not it’s bad to keep tortoises inside or if it’s best to have a large outside enclosure? I live in an apartment complex so outside isn’t an option sadly. Is it bad to keep a tortoise exclusively inside? My guess would be yes but I would love an expert’s answer. In that case would an aquatic turtle be better to keep indoors? Thanks for anything, I’m really looking forward to getting into this I just want to make sure I’m not causing problems for my new friend and family member!!!
Hi Chris, how do you prevent your Horsfield tortoises from digging out and escaping? Also, could you say more about temperature and soil types that are ok and not ok for outside brumation? I live in the UK and it's fairly damp with fairly warm winters and clay soil, and concerned that might be not cold enough and too damp for outside brumation?
7:21 about the sweetest moment you'll ever see on CZcams. I stopped and viewed it three times.
Great video! You make i big and good job! Wish you all the best 👍 testudo tortoises its my favourite! Keep them +/- 10 years
Wonderful! Thank you for watching!
Do you have to do anything to increase the humidity for your tortoises outside? What is your average humidity throughout the year?
Beautifully
Hi loving the videos! I just found 2 tortoises but am having difficulty identifying them. I want to identify them to make sure that I give them the best care,Can you recommend anywhere on the internet please? I live in Southern Spain
Living out in Palmdale, California-we have the Desert Tortoise. But I am afraid to put a Russian Tortoise year round in the winter. Lol
I would love to see how you keep them outside
Really enjoyed this video and I’ll be watching your others. Do you allow visitors?
you are right this video is really helpful I am form Pakistan and I didnot know that my country also has Russian Tortoises I was in shock by the way love from Pakistan ❤❤❤❤❤
Which one would do best with rain and humidity? In West Ga and I have an enclosure built and I have plants establishing currently, but we get a lot of rain and have high humidity swings.
Hi chris, would you say that it would be possible to keep musk turtles outside year round in colorado?
