I will not use anything, no rod, no hooks, no line, and no bait! Everything I use in this challenge will be completely found, or made from natural materials in the woods around me!
I will show you how to get fishing line from nothing and show you the very best way to make a survival fishing kit. This is the very best method of survival fishing in the shortest amount of time. I will teach you how to make a simple, but effective fishing rod, and make a hook from scrap or found metal that anyone can find anywhere. I will teach you how to grind down metal wire into a super sharp survival hook.

Not too far from each other, so makes sense. Kevlar canoe, portaging, wildfires, pike, and lake trout. Thank you for the outdoors advice, and thank you for the male pride. Id love to see him in the role of homeless heroin junkie trapping sewer rats for food and using their skin to fashion thongs and lingerie for all the girls turning tricks that share the same alley with him. Which he turns into a cottage industry and ends up being elected king of the hobos and eventually wins the United States presidential nomination for the Libertarian party.

9:20 Small correction, rust does not cause tetanus. It's only associated with it. It's most commonly transmitted through animal droppings. Any deep wound can cause tetanus, whether it's rusty metal, a sharp stick, or an animal bite. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tetanus#Cause
Historically the association with rusty nails (or metal) likely came from the nails used in horse-shoeing. That deep nail cavity in the hoof is an ideal breeding ground for tetanus. With blacksmith nails being expensive, one was most likely to encounter a discarded nail from a fallen horseshoe.

Mark Shapner, I am glad that you pointed that common misconception about rust allegedly causing tetanus. Rust is a mere oxide of iron. Tetanus bacteria come from the manure of animals like the horse, etc.

I discovered your channel while doing a search on "survival fishing" for this is a subject I have much interest in! Did not find it silly at all, for it proved some important information for those who may end up in a similar situation. Because of my own experience fishing in the wilderness, in areas that got very little fishing pressure, I would state that in those places you may be hard pressed to find fishing line. In those situations, what would you use instead? I love your channel and subscribed.

In the Oregon National Guard in 1970 I found discarded line, a fish hook tangled in a small tree; used a rock for a sinker. then I used a cracked snail and helgramites for bait. Caught 5 Large trout while hand lining with No pole. Then gutted them and made a snowshoe shaped green willow holder to cook them over a fire in Guard camp. The guys had refused to share gear and I did not share those fish; man, was I ever full.

I just watched survivorman do a week from a kayak in summertime alaslan coast and he ate basically everything raw. He ate the raw fiddle heads. Raw kelp. Raw river water. Raw fish. He called it sushi. If you're already used to it, it's not typically going to be of a huge concern. That's why it's important to practice and go out there and take specimens that you can nibble on from the safety and security of your own home to get your immune system conditioned for your surroundings before it needs to be depended on. You don't wait until you're trying to survive to eat the raw fiddleheads unless you want explosive veggie diarrhea.

    Follow the water downstream.
Unfortunately, that much fishing line is not unusual. We humans litter way too much.
He could make snares out of that line, too. Make several and stick them in your pocket. There is almost always earthworms around the banks of the creeks.
Find sharp weeds and weave them into a basket.
I would try and make a crochet hook to weave with it. (Maybe). Use sharp rocks, that will cut, as knives.

I kinda laughed at first when he fell, but immediately got scared when he rolled for a bit.

Always protect your feet. I see you have found rusty metal wire. I always carry shoes that I dont mind getting wet. When I was a teen I impaled my food on glass in a stream and it was bad. I never made the mistake of going barfoot in the water again. In a survival situation my injury may have been fatal. Be careful my friend.

I chipped my tooth really bad biting fishing line like that. Without dental insurance I had the deal with the sharp edge cutting my tongue for weeks until it wore down naturally. But I suppose in a survival situation a chipped tooth would be of least concern.
