Covering her hands with something NOT imbued with magic-suppressing material/enchantments doesn’t do anything, yes, I agree. They got the gloves from the trolls.
Gloves are pretty strong against something. That something depends on what they’re made of. Vinyl gloves deflect germs, but the gloves Elsa was wearing were probably heavy duty gloves as ice is pretty hard and sharp.
Agnar knew there was nothing that could physically stop her powers but he knew that her mind was controlling them and they were dependent on her emotions. If she was calm and believed they were under control/suppressed they would be. He was very intelligent to use psychological tactics.
Love is what calms her down. The gloves represent her fathers loving care. Even though what he was doing was actually wrong, he did it out of love. He had no idea he was making it worse. So the gloves are a token of love.
There is actually a deleted scene where after Anna and Elsa’s parents passed away Anna and Elsa find a secret room and they find there. Father’s book which he has written about Elsa’s gloves are made specially
That’s what I think too. Especially in the scene where she freezes the fountain. She’s losing control, so you’d think her powers would just override the gloves, yet the gloves still stop her right hand from freezing the fountain base.
I like how the gloves were a symbol of hiding one's true identity. Elsa wore gloves to hide her ice powers and retain her true self. Hans also wears gloves, meaning he didn't actually love Anna and he was hiding his true intentions. Now christoff wears gloves when he first meets Anna, because he's hiding his true feelings for her. But towards the end, he is gloveless, meaning he genuinely loves her.
The gloves are a metaphor about hiding one’s true identity and you can see this trend with other characters, most notably Hans. Pretty sure the directors came out and said this anyways
It was just that she thought that the gloves prevented the power coming from her but actually it did nothing and was just her mind think it did something thus giving her a reassurance about it and calming her down.
Her feelings control her powers. The ice colors change to red/yellow when she's nervous/scared. Whenever she's going through an anxiety attack, snow swirls around her
Or the gloves could be enchanted to keep the magic inside. I don’t think it would be that stranger, the king and queen, to try to find any means to block out her ice power. Also magic and enchanted objects isn’t that far out of the realm of a Disney movie since most of their movies revolve around magic.
I think all the problems caused by their parents. Instead of teaching Elsa to control and train her powers, they locked her at home and did not even show her to her sister, and when they died they left a sister who hates herself and has an isolated and traumatic personality, and another sister that had a sister longing for her whole childhood.
It’s really funny how when you watched these movies as a child you didn’t even noticed or thought about something like that, you just accepted it the way it was
I always wondered why they didnt just erase elsa's memories of hurting Anna. Sure it showed her that her magic is greater than what she thought but thats a heavy thought for a 9 year old
Agnar had the best idea when he decided that the glove idea would work. He knew that Elsa needed something to put her at ease. Something tells me that if Grandpabi (no idea how to spell his name) didn't tell her about what people would think about her powers then this wouldn't have happened
I think that is exactly what the gloves are. But truthfully if the king and queen were trying to help Elsa then they made a mistake because avoidance, which this is a form of, makes fear worse.
I think it was more psychological than anything else. It was a way for Elsa to cling to some sense of control in her mind. Unfortunately it also caused her to cling to much too it to the point where she believed that taking the gloves off would ruin her control
Keep in mind her powers were exposed immediately after the first glove was removed, therefore it contradicts the theory that it is her controlling her own power, rather it's the exposure around the body that is causing it since we would notice her room freezing up over time. (but you still, you guys can have you're own opinions)
Near the end of the movie she was in the dungeon with shackles over her hands. She was able to freeze those over and escape because she wanted to escape.
That’s why I love the scene in Let It Go when Elsa finally throws away her other glove. The gloves acted as a shield and barrier for her to hide behind but once she finally gets rid of them she show her true self.
On the TV show Once Upon a Time, it was explained that the gloves were actually magic that block her powers from her hands, given to the family by Rumpelstiltskin.
I honestly hated her parents for what they did to her. They could of told Anna after the accident what happened and the reason she doesn't remember it, and that Elsa can't use her powers to play anymore if no one is watching them both. Or they could of gave it some time and told Anna when she was a bit older and a little bit more mature enough to understand. But besides hiding it from Anna, and the fact it was never brought up again that she already knew but was made to forget to save her life i found stupid, but besides that, the parents were literally told, to not make her fear it because fear will cause it to spiral out of control. So what'd they do? Lock her away in a room by herself, give her gloves and tell her to hide and never let it show again, making her feel like she and her powers were a danger to everyone around her, making her fear her powers, fear herself, causing her to lose control of her powers, causing her to shut everyone out. If they had of followed the advice of the trolls(?) If they had of reassured her, told her it's okay, they're there for her. If they hadn't of moved her away from her sister, isolating her alone in a room, if they had of let her continue to embrace her powers, away from Anna, like someone distracts Anna by giving her a task to do something nice for her sister, taking her into the town for the a day to go shopping and explore, Elsa could of practiced her powers, knowing her sister was away and safe, but also knowing that she too was okay and was supported and that her parents believed in her and trusted her enough to not lock her away, to not hide her or what she could do. If they had of taught her to use her powers properly, instead of letting get out of control through fear, she could of been more self-confident and had more control over powers, and they could of told Anna. They could of set Anna down, explaind what happened when they were little kids, could of explained that they wanted Else to feel more in control of herself and powers and that she need time alone to get a handle on them before reintroducing Anna to Elsa's powers again for both of their safeties. The sisters could of continue to interact and have that bond without Elsa's powers being an issue, because she wouldn't of been afraid that they'd show, so she wouldn't freeze something out of fear and they could of been two "normal" kids until Anna was reintroduced to her sisters powers. Elsa was made to feel like it was her fault, she feared hurting someone again like she did her sister, because instead of her parents telling her it wasn't her fault and it was an accident, and that it was okay and Anna would understand when they told her the truth eventually, but instead her parents made her fear herself and so she shut down and was constantly afraid and couldn't understand why she had no control over her powers. Anna and Elsa could of had a different life if their parents had of done better, but, we probably wouldn't even have a movie if it wasn't for the parents ignoring the trolls(?).
It's like kissing booboos. You (the parent) know it doesn't actually do anything, but they (the child) feel better afterwards. Idk why you'd think it was weird, it made perfect sense to me as a kid when this movie came out. I was old enough to understand placebo effect though.
It was definitely not a smart move it only gave her more anxiety over time. They should’ve taught her to love her magic more than anything other than be ashamed of it. She felt “this is what makes me a freak” and that’s not true at all it’s what made her unique and beautiful I’m so glad she learned that in the later movies ❤
It's also because she was conditioned as she grew up. To herself, wearing the gloves meant she was safe around others, constantly holding herself down.
I think this pretty much indicates that while Frozen wasn't exactly made in one draft, it still needed a little more proofreading and another rewrite. I don't think this was the worst plot hole in the movie, but it is the biggest one if that makes any sense. I mean, the worst one is definitely Hans's change of character at the very end. This however has a bigger connection to the main conflict of the story.
I kinda understood it as a metaphor for emotional distance. She can’t feel the world around her, so she can distance herself from it, and in that way pretend that she can’t influence her environment.
Ever since I first saw the film in theaters, I always knew that her gloves didn’t really work. It was just a simple case of mind over matter, or, like the guy said, placebo effect. The mind can be a very powerful thing
Here's my headcanon on this: Elsa's gloves do keep her from using her winter magic, but only to a certain extent. Agnarr may or may not have believed that the gloves kept Elsa from using her powers entirely, but they didn't regardless. Elsa can still use her powers using her hands with her gloves on, but with bare hands, she could use it to her fullest potential. The reason I believe this is that when she puts her bare hand on the fountain, it immediately shoots out spikes of ice underneath her palm, but when she puts her gloved hand on the fountain, there's only ice frost forming beneath her palm. Likewise, when Elsa is wearing socks and shoes, only ice forms beneath her feet. I think this is because, while she can use her winter magic with her feet while wearing socks and shoes, they too restrict her from using her powers to her fullest potential using her feet; however, when she is barefoot, she can use her magic to her fullest potential with her feet. This is because, when she in _Frozen II_ runs on the rough water, her bare feet only create sparks of ice that quickly fade away, but I believe it's because she already learned to control her powers by that point; it doesn't make sense she'd be less powerful with her feet when barefoot when she's more powerful with her hands without gloves.
I feel like the king wasn’t trying to help her control it. All the king wanted to do was hide it from everyone. What he should’ve done was tried to help Elsa control her powers
King agnar literally stated that the GLOVES WILL HELP as he put them on her, then later on when she says dont touch me its getting stronger. She knew the whole time.
I noticed this too. They really zoom in on her feet making uce even tho she wears shoes, so i assumed either the gloves were a lie or it was a plot hole
This kind of reminds me of ways for treating neurological disorders (ex. medication)- they’re not a complete fix, there will still be some visible signs of the symptoms.
I know it's not canon to thr Disney movies but in Once Upon a Time they continue the story after Frozen 1 and reveal that the gloves were actually her Aunts. The Gloves were created or at least Enchanted by Rumplestiltskin so they were magical amd very powerful but her shoes are just normal shoes. So my head canon is that the trolls gave the King the gloves or someone woth magical powers anyway. Maybe even Rapunzel as we know she is friends with Ariemdelle as she makes an appearance at Elsa's coronation.
I always thought it was more of a symbol. She knew that the gloves wouldn’t hold her powers back but they were a reminder of the comfort she felt when her dad was encouraging her and giving her strength.
Well, actually, the only reason that the gloves keep her from using her powers, but not the shoes it’s because Elsa doesn’t believe the shoes can keep her from using her powers, but she leaves the gloves can when Hans gave her the gloves he thinks that it will make her stop her from using her powers in the shoes are made out of fabric
Wait did no one else know this? It was so obvious it was just a psychological trick to help her. The gloves didn’t do anything. Elsa believed they did so much that when she wore them her fear didn’t make her powers go crazy. Unfortunately it made her rely on them so much that when she didn’t have them she was terrified.
I REMEMBER WATCHING FROZEN 1 FROZEN FEVER OLAF FROZEN ADVENTURE AND FROZEN 2 AND IN 2020 I HAD A DREAM ABOUT FROZEN ELSA RUNS AWAY AND WENT TO THE MOUNTAIN SO SHE WON’T HURT ANYBODY WITH HER ICE POWERS.
After you say that I’m still convinced that they have something they put into the glove in order to block her powers from coming out since her mother has powers too. She may know about something that is able to stop magic from being released. It’s also just my theory
He probably didn't know himself what her powers were ? She was his daughter, he loved her. He wanted to help her and protect her but protect everyone else, too. How could he help his little girl in a simple way that wouldn't hurt her ?! She's just a little girl ?! His baby girl ?! He probably thought, "How can she have this ? Surely this will help and everything will be okay, right ?" He probably didn't even know himself.
Yeah and there was a moment where the gloves didn't work and she got scared and the parents weren't able to calm her down.. And so the parents sail away for answers.
I thought the gloves helped to remind her to control her emotions. It was a good idea when she was a kid but as an adult she didn't have her parents to encourage her that she can do it without the gloves. It was the nerves from the high strung day that made her snap not the removal of the glove itself. The gloves were a simple both to the viewers and elsa
Irresponsible parenting caused her to be fearful of herself. Then they separated the girls and kept secrets instead of being honest and teaching Elsa to harness her magic.
Jesus Christ is Real. Jesus Christ is Lord. Jesus Christ is Savior. Jesus Christ is Life, Way, Truth. Jesus Christ is coming back soon. Jesus Christ is calling you to come to him.🙌
Elsa was just really convinced that gloves will stop her powers but it was her mindset about it

MAGIC GLOVES!
Here's my headcanon on this:
Elsa's gloves do keep her from using her winter magic, but only to a certain extent.
Instead of being a placebo effect thing, I would have thought the gloves would have been a coping skill for Elsa..
King agnar literally stated that the GLOVES WILL HELP as he put them on her, then later on when she says dont touch me its getting stronger. She knew the whole time.
Very clever idea to keep her calm
No, but I did realize….
That Elsa is adopted😂
I noticed this too. They really zoom in on her feet making uce even tho she wears shoes, so i assumed either the gloves were a lie or it was a plot hole
Its just her mindset she was so convinced to the point that she actual believed the gloves would resist
I tought the trolls magically enhanced them
Elsa had the best glowup of all time!!
This kind of reminds me of ways for treating neurological disorders (ex. medication)- they’re not a complete fix, there will still be some visible signs of the symptoms.
Hence why he says "Conceal it, don't feel it..."
The movie tells us that when she first gets the gloves when they say "conceal don't feel"....
Frozen will still be the best cartoon ❤❤❤
Wait did no one else know this? It was so obvious it was just a psychological trick to help her. The gloves didn’t do anything. Elsa believed they did so much that when she wore them her fear didn’t make her powers go crazy. Unfortunately it made her rely on them so much that when she didn’t have them she was terrified.
I even had a feeling Elsa and Anna’s parents lied about powers! Anna might have hidden powers like, Fire Powers!
Frozen is full of plot holes and unexplained answers. Frozen and tangled drive me crazy-
There’s also a chance that the writers would watch this and think “wow I never thought of that that’s a really good cool idea!!!” 😂
Elsa didn’t believe the gloves completely stopped her powers from working. She saw them as a comfort, a way to stay calm and keep them under control
It’s also just my theory
wow
He probably didn't know himself what her powers were ? She was his daughter, he loved her. He wanted to help her and protect her but protect everyone else, too. How could he help his little girl in a simple way that wouldn't hurt her ?!
She's just a little girl ?! His baby girl ?!
He probably thought,
"How can she have this ? Surely this will help and everything will be okay, right ?"
He probably didn't even know himself.
Yeah and there was a moment where the gloves didn't work and she got scared and the parents weren't able to calm her down.. And so the parents sail away for answers.
I see it as Elsa's version of the magic feather in Dumbo.
I thought it was obvious that it was just ment to put her at ease and help her keep control as a phycological barrier
I want to believe that the gloves were handmade by their parents with a certain warming fabric that warms her hands and not use Ice magic
Tose gloves were given by those trolls...thats why
I thought the gloves helped to remind her to control her emotions. It was a good idea when she was a kid but as an adult she didn't have her parents to encourage her that she can do it without the gloves. It was the nerves from the high strung day that made her snap not the removal of the glove itself. The gloves were a simple both to the viewers and elsa
I always thought they were meant to be some kind of magical gloves made by those forest trolls or whatever
It didn’t really help. It was only to calm her mind. You saw how she panicked when it was taken away
They should of helped her control and use her powers for good not locked her away in a room to me that's the saddest part about Frozen
Irresponsible parenting caused her to be fearful of herself. Then they separated the girls and kept secrets instead of being honest and teaching Elsa to harness her magic.
