Probably also worth mentioning for our Aussie friends that Eastern Long Neck Turtles will take chunks out of your goldfish if you have them in your pond. I found that out the hard way when I was a kid with my first pond.

I live in Flanders, Belgium and have a 10.000 l pond as natural as possible. We have a lot of salamanders (100) in our pond so the only fish we can have is the American minnow (because of its orange color and Rice fish, also for the orange color. They are algea eathers and do not harm the salamanders. They like to school together juist below the water surface. I am new follower of your channel and in September (when most of the salamanders are out of the pond) I will make a bog filter like yours 😉

I live in northern nsw and keep crimson spotted rainbow fish and Marjorie hardyheads (both native to our area) with my gold fish. I like the goldfish way more than I thought I would and we also swim in our pond and they and the natives are quite interactive. I do love the rainbows though they are awesome fish and quite trout like in the way they attack any insect, worm or other food in the water. Quite entertaining.

Love the white clouds, they hang out by the steps are lot and are inquisitive, every time I move something around. The danios seem to sprint everywhere and hardly see the gudgeons. Just over 100 in total ... Will add Pacific blue eyes once weather warms too.

Hi Ozponds, I keep goldfish in my small 2’ x 6’ pond. I live in the most southeast corner of Ireland near the Irish Sea. I struggled to get my pea green water clear for 3 years, till I took your advice about stones and plants- I now have crystal clear water for the first time ever, so thank you.
I am struggling to get pond plants here in Ireland, so I grew water cress and put it in my pebble fountain filter and it’s doing great, however I am getting some string algae on my large rocks in my pond. Have you any suggestions on how to get rid of it? My pond is by a hedge so mostly in the shade, also I have a couple of small frogs that have moved in and I’m delighted about that.

Depends on the size of your pond and oxygen content. Somethings to look into would be koi (you’re allowed to keep them in NSW), goldfish, rice fish, mountain minnows, trout. If you wanted natives galaxias, Pygmy perch, Murray rainbows, Murray cod, silver perch and yellow belly. Those are all pretty common and easy to source.

@@Giggles2208 great to hear the goldfish are working out for you. Ous should be full size in another year or two (ie up to 30cm) and I think thats a great size and because they have more flowing fins, I think they are more graceful than the Koi. Goldfish are pretty robust which helps. Ours are in 20,000 litre converted fibreglass pool, which has worked out really well.

How are Koi illegal but goldfish fine? Goldfish lose their colour and are dangerous to natural environment.

No idea. It seems a contradiction to me too! But hey I don’t make the rules.

@@Ozponds lol, Australia is run by authoritarian nutters. Covid showed that. Would love to visit the great people and places but the government and police scare me.
