  • In this video I tackle a crucial passage that often gets twisted to mean something completely different than what it actually communicates. This is unfortunate because this passage harmonizes extremely well with the description of the final Judgement in Revelation 20 to give us a good picture of what is to come and what the judgement of God is like.

Repent doesn't mean turning from sin it means a change of mind. Turning from sin is works and they don't get us saved.
Jonah 3:10 shows us that God views turning from sin as works, it also shows us that repent can't mean turning from sin
because God repented. The Greek word for repent is metanoeite which means a change of mind. When Jesus says repent and believe he is saying to change our minds from unbelief to belief.

Jonah, as referenced by Jesus, shows us what repentance looks like. Now if you turn from unbelief to unbelief. Tell me..what does that belief look like? How does it show in your actions? You live your same filthy life that you did before believing in Jesus or do you choose to follow Him because you receive Him as LORD now?

Hi, thank you for this. Sadly I had a friend of mine this past week who I've known for a few years who started reading Eastern Orthodox material and he told me "we are justified by faith and vindicated by works" so that the **grounds** for our acceptance into heaven is in that position is both our faith and our works, or our faith demonstrated by our works, so much so that the way he worded it is that those works are necessary for our entrance into heaven. John Piper has come out with something similar to this, actually I believe no different from what my friend described, in what Piper calls "Final Salvation." I have some problems with that view, first being that justification is is itself the verdict of Judgment Day applied to us at the moment that we believed the gospel (Rom 5:1, 8:1; John 5:24), so that there is no verdict to be settled on Judgment day for believers, there will of course be a judgment to determine rewards in heaven, a.k.a. what is known as the Bema Seat Judgment/The Judgment Seat of Christ (1 Cor 3:10-15; Rom 14:10-12; 2 Cor 5:9-10). This can also be seen in the fact that in Matt 25:34, Jesus tells the sheep to come into the Kingdom, because they are blessed (perfect tense in the Greek; Logos says that it is a past **completed** event which produces a result that exists in the present) of the Father, and to **inherit** [inheritances are not something that one deserves or even demonstrates to observe, but rather receives it because of their relation to the person they are inheriting it from {being born again of the Holy Spirit here and thus becoming the children of God by faith alone here would be how we become related to God by becoming His children}] the kingdom, which has been prepared for them from the foundation of the world. But in 25:41, Jesus' first words to the goats are actually a pronouncement of judgment/verdict "Depart from Me, accursed ones". It takes great care to exegete this text accurately and not come to the conclusion that at the last day that our grounds for entering heaven are both faith and works, and this fails the scrutiny of Scripture because there is no verdict for the redeemed on Judgment Day, our account was settled the moment that we trust in Jesus (Rom 5:1). To be clear and put my cards on the table, as it sounds like you and me agree on this, I am an evangelical Christian, I believe in all 5 of the Sola's (and by Sola Fide, I believe that has absolutely nothing to do with water baptism, Sola Fide and baptismal regeneration are diametrically opposed) and hold to Lordship salvation, but even our submission to the Lordship of Christ will not be perfect, but it definitely should be genuine and present in the life of the believer, if in the size of a mustard seed, but yet it is all of grace and what Christ is working in us (Phil 2:12-13(

    Poor exegesis.
The key is that the people being judged DO NOT KNOW WHY THIS JUDGMENT IS GIVEN! Many millions of Christians today (and through the centuries) believe that their actions toward the downtrodden are EXACTLY what these verses mean. So…how can they be “surprised” by these statements of Jesus? The people here in Matthew 25:31-46 have NO CLUE why Jesus is passing this judgment, and therefore cannot be talking about the multitude of believers (and false believers) who have died thinking that this criteria is how they will be evaluated!
Matthew 25:31-46 is referring to those STILL ALIVE at the 2nd coming of Jesus who have never heard the gospel as we preach it today since it is AFTER THE HARPAZO! The only ones preaching the Kingdom of God at first are the 144,000 Jewish BROTHERS of Christ who will be persecuted, imprisoned, denied food, etc. for telling people about the coming King Jesus!
Matthew 25:1-30 describes the fate of true and false believers who have either died or been taken alive in the harpazo. Verses 31-46 refers to those still here and become believers NOT by a profession of faith as we do today but by believing the message of the coming King AND acting upon that belief as proof. Jesus and Paul (We are saved by faith, not by works) do NOT contradict each other.

Matthew, it is imperative that YOU get this passage right, since you are PUBLICLY teaching on it, because you WILL show up somewhere at this great moment in time.
At 4:00, you ask "Do you mean to telll me that these people never helped anyone?" Man, THIS is NOT the issue! Does Jesus HERE ever talk about people who never do ANYTHING to help anyone... or people who accidentally fail to help? NO! Jesus has JUST finished stating that the "sheep" unknowingly - by helping His "brethen" - had personally "helped" HIM.
Sit down with a piece of paper and make several LARGE circles. In these circles, place the identified subjects with their scriptural references. You willl find that there will be people who were sheep, people who were goats, people who are His brethern, groups of helpers, groups of non-helpers. But NOWHERE is there a category for "failing" Christians, nor another one for the generous "lost." John Calvin has inoculated believers from the ability to listen to the guiding of the Holy Spirit. Calvin has given you a scorecard from which you should never lift your gaze.
*** At least you haven't included that mysterious group of Jews (supposedly "My brethren) as was falsely taught an age ago.***(Mt 12:50.)
Whether this "help" spoken of, assists to LEAD someone to accept Christ, OR only HELPS them afterwards, is not addressed.
What IS addressed is that ONLY in the "saved-sheep" group are those people that Jesus speaks of as having helped HIM in His need.
May I summarize by saying, this: if YOU do not help someone in their need, regardless of what you say you profess to be, YOU will not be in the group of "sheep" at the end of the age, but will have your place in the lake of fire, because ONE of those you FAILED to help was Jesus. Yes - heaven or hell.
May I also say this? Stop listening to preachers and teachers until you have shown enough interest in Jesus Christ Himself that you can stand on your own and not be blown about with every wind of doctrine...because some of them are doctrine of demons.
But this passage, Matthew 25:31-46, has your name written all over it. Jesus listens to HOW people use His words. Paul was not sent to CHANGE the gospel, but to EXPLAIN it, and I assure you, Paul had a lot more to say on this topic than you imply.

The context of Matthew 25 takes place at the end of the tribulation, the time of Jacob's Trouble, the final 42 months. In other words it's at the time of Jesus's 2nd Coming back to earth to set up His millennial kingdom on the earth.
In the middle of the tribulation period in Rev 7:1:8 the Lord "seals" 144,000 Jewish brethren that will be His representatives on the earth during the final 42 months or 3 and 1/2 years of the tribulation.
At the time of the Lord's return, He destroys all of those who took the mark of the beast along with all of those who were gathered against Him at the battle of Armageddon, see (Rev. 19:15-21).
Now then, the only people that are left alive at the end of the tribulation period are those who didn't take the mark of the beast and who survived all of the final 7 bowl judgments.
Remember, all of those who were killed by the "sword of His mouth" were (lost) people, which means that those who remained on the earth alive were saved or they too would have been slain with His sword.
What Jesus does next is He divides all of the people who survive the tribulation and he classifies them into two groups, the sheep and the goats.
The SHEEP are all of those who helped the "least of these my brethren" which happen to be the 144,000 Jewish men who were sealed with the seal of God at the middle of the tribulation in Rev. 7.
All of the SHEEP individuals will "inherit the kingdom" on the earth for the next 1000 yrs. They will begin to repopulate the earth during the millennial kingdom on earth.
The GOATS, on the other hand, are all of those who failed to help the 144,000 who are "the least of these" the Lord's brethren.
They will be punished with everlasting (age lasting) destruction and will miss out on the entire 1000 year kingdom and will then be raised up at the second Resurrection will will occur AFTER the 1000 year millennial kingdom. This will then be the time of the final judgment at the Great Whilte Throne. See Rev 20:11.

A couple things to consider. Matthew's scripture of Jesus' Words were to the Jews in full expectation of Jesus to establish his kingdom. Matthew had no clue about faith by grace of God. Had no clue about the mystery hid in God and revealed to Paul. It hadn't even happened. Matthew was preaching believe and be baptized bring forth meet for repentance. Matthew had no idea what the cross really meant. In the tribulation. Which is what Jesus is talking about. The believers had better to the right thing or be cast into everlasting punishment. They better help the tribulation saints. There will be no gospel of grace being preached. The body of Christ will be long gone and the last part of prophecy will be fulfilled. It's in his words. Believers must help the needy Saints. The law will be in full effect. Faith that works is taught in the Bible. It's always faith but this is the only dispensation where works is contrary to Gods will. Faith is doing what God says. He says believe. We Believe. He says do works. You better do works to prove your faith. Thank God we live in the grace period of history. But we will be judged for our works. Not our sins but our ministry.

Christian sinners are not in Good standing with God.
The false church denies the power of the Holy Spirit to deliver us from sin. False ministers deny the power of the Holy Spirit to transform us to righteousness. They teach that the spirit will struggle with the flesh until we die, and that there is no remedy for this condition.
In truth, we do not have both the Holy Spirit and the flesh nature. We only have one or the other.
Jesus wins the battle for us when we are Born Again. Scripture says:
    Colossians 2:11
"In him also you were circumcised with a circumcision made without hands, by putting off the body of the flesh, by the circumcision of Christ."
Jesus cuts away the flesh when we receive the Holy Spirit, and we lose sinful desires.
The Apostle Paul tells us this:
    Galatians 5:24
"And those who are Christ's have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires."
We dont have both the Holy Spirit and the flesh nature. Scripture tells us so:
    Romans 8:9
"But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you."
Everyone who dies while still in their flesh has not been born again. Scripture tells us that sinning Christians are guaranteed to end up in hell:
    Romans 8:13
"For if you live according to the flesh you will die, but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live."
Jesus only gives the Holy Spirit to those who are obedient. Scripture tells us so:
    Acts 5:32
"We are witnesses of these things, and so is the Holy Spirit, whom God has given to those who obey him.”
The Apostle John who was taught by Jesus face to face agrees with these things.
    1 John 3:9
"Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God."
God’s grace does not free us to sin. It frees us from sin.
    Jude 1:24 confirms this.
"To him (Jesus) who is able to keep you from stumbling (Sinning) and to present you before his glorious presence without fault and with great joy"
    Romans 6:18 also says:
"You have been set free from sin and have become slaves to righteousness."
Christians who deny the power of the Holy Spirit to set us free from the bondage of sin and it's desires reject the word of God. If one rejects God's word, God will reject him. These people are mocking the Holy Spirit. They are committing blasphemy against the Holy Spirit.

The sheep and goat judgment takes place when Jesus returns to set up His kingdom on the earth for 1000 years. The sheep are granted entrance into the earthly kingdom (not heaven) Matt 35:34. These people did not know that what good they did to His brethren they were doing for Jesus (v37). We believers would know this because we know this scripture. Therefore these sheep are a different group who get into the kingdom on the basis of good works alone.

Romans 11:6 KJV-And if by grace, then is it no more of works: otherwise grace is no more grace. But if it be of works, then it is no more grace: otherwise work is no more work.
Galatians 2:21 KJV-I do not frustrate the grace of God: for if righteousness come by the law, then Christ is dead in vain.
