Finally someone who understands that even if we want longer legs, there are a lot of people concious about belly/tummy to tuck the shirt.

Edith Head (classic Hollywood era costumer designer) swore by matching the socks and shoes to the pants for her actors, particularly when dancing, to create an unbroken visual line down the leg.(Just watch Danny Kay from White Christmas dancing in his gray suit with perfectly matched shoes and socks) Guess she was right! Great video👍

This video couldn’t have come at a better time for me! I am 5’1” with short legs and a long torso. I wore a long/oversized blazer to the office today and was feeling pretty cute… until I saw myself in the bathroom mirror and noticed how stumpy I looked! I took off the blazer and instantly looked taller. I think I will be sticking with cropped blazers and incorporating these tips.

Fantastic tips! I wear some of these silhouettes (like flares with pointy-toe boots) and definitely feel leggier when I do, but it's eye-opening to see the side-by-side comparisons. I love the tip about going monochromatic but choosing a top that helps define your waist.

Hi Erin! This is totally my issue (short legs/long torso). Since following your tips on dressing for my body shape I feel so much more confident! It's amazing how much these tips make a difference! Now the issue I have is tailoring my pants and jeans to be long enough in both high heals and flats. However having 2 pairs of each in 2 different lengths seems to be the way to go!

Great video, wish I found it sooner. I only just worked out this year at 56 that high waisted suits my shorter leg frame. Another good tip is the v-neck or unbuttoned shirt showing some skin shortens the body section. I realized that low rise and medium rise jeans do not do me as much justice as high rise pants. I don't tend to wear heals but I find 7/8 length pants/leggings showing some ankle are more flattering to my leg length than full length at times.

Erin, You're like the big sister I always wished I had. I grew up with a foreign mother and struggled so much with clothes my whole life. I would just buy things I liked, but never felt that I was put together and felt like I was constantly wasting $100s of dollars and still looked terrible. For the last 3+ years, I just stopped shopping outside of my foolproof basics - activewear and t-shirts - just because I felt so defeated by that idea of ever being fashionable. I do not know how I came across your channel last month, but I will be eternally grateful for how much you've changed this area of my life for the better. I was a a high end department store today and the sales associate even complimented me on my jeans! They weren't any special designer brand, but I used your advice to find a pair that are really flattering. You mention that you do what you do to empower other women to live their best life and you definitely have achieved this in my book. :-)

There’s a shoe tip about making sure that the shoe is cut in a way that makes the instep/inner foot top visible. This showcases the foot/ankle in a lengthening way - looks more visually appealing.

Monochromatic look is my fave! The structure of balmain always make people look bigger but I LOVE the point with wide leg pants, looks large and in charge
I love that look too! I don't agree that the blazer will make everyone look bigger. Structured shoulders may not be the best option for those that are inverted triangles, but the structure on other shapes is really flattering! xo

Love it. Though the past two yesterday or so because of my tummy I've been wearing Ruby Ribbin products. They replace the bra, & have different layers of compression. No underwires. Freedom with support. Able to tuck in. I'm not paid by or work for them but do love they're products.

Great tips, I honestly like the first look with the wedges more than the chunky sandals, something just feels off about them with the dress to me. Like maybe don’t do the straps but also maybe not those type of sandals either 🤷🏻♀️
The chunkier sandal is not for everyone, but it is the only shoe that I have with me in Spain that worked for this illustration. You could use any sandal or pump (without an ankle strap) to accomplish the same thing. xo

Maybe it’s time for a flat/ long butt video- there have already been two comments re. THAT challenge.I never see this addressed by anyone on YT❗️❗️❗️❗️❗️❗️We lanky rectangular type gals often are “ born this way”. It’s a GENE problem that’s causing a problem in our JEANS 😅😂. Thank you Erin.
I know what you mean and I know the solution! The style secret to making a flat butt look more 'peachy' is about pocket position, size and shape. I wrote a blog on it years ago, maybe I need to make a video and pop it on you tube, but I'd never be as brilliant as Erin! When you wear layers over your jeans, choose tops/jackets that finish across the broadest part of your hips as this also give the illusion of a wider hip line and less long flat butt syndrome.

The hair tie hack! How did I not know this? I’ve done the “under the shirt” hair tie hack and it never lays right and the tie ends up falling off. I tried the tuck method yesterday and it looked perfect all day long. I’ve never been able to do a good tuck. Thank you!

I often wear strappy heels, as my ankles are by far the best feature. I think that it really depends on what you are wearing them with. Another great video.
Totally agree! I love shoes with straps and wear them often. I just avoid straps if my goal is to lengthen the look of my legs (which isn't always my primary goal). xo

I get around the ankle strap issue by wearing them under flair leg pants. Wide-leg pants don't work on me. I need a pretty secure shoe if I'm wearing a platform with my flairs. I'm 5'1" and I like to wear a 29-inch inseam. I skip them for air travel [nasty toilets = ankle-length pants and boots] but the flair is my best look.
Wow what a difference the different shoes make. I am 5.4 and always wear black wedges with straps to get some height but now I see where that makes my legs look even shorter. I will stick with a lighter color from now.

I've been looking for channels that teach styling, thank God that I found one with an ACTUAL professional that makes great and helpful videos. Though I would like to ask some for suggestions. My dimensions are S-42', B-38, W-31, H-38. By your vid, I am technically a rectangle but I've realized that some styles suitable for that type are not for me.

I would actually categorize you as an inverted triangle because your shoulders are 4" larger than your hips...that is usually enough of a difference to be able to see...do you see that when you look into the mirror? xo

Erin can you please comment on nude shoes with straps? It seems if they are skin colored, the straps don’t shorten the legs. I love my Stuart Weitzman NearlyNude in both black and smooth calf color (the perfect nude color for me).
Straps that match your skin tone usually blend in nicely and are don’t cut you off the same way. Plus the Stuart Weitzman shoes have pretty thin straps. xo

It's a goodie for jeans but would you advise any style of dresses or skirts to wear with it, as it's black and will be crotch length on me. Am a bit unsure x

Yes...give them a try. You may need to stay clear of the super high rise. Look for a pair that is high rise on you...this may mean they have a rise traditionally categorized as mid rise. Hope that makes sense! xo

Love your videos and you life stories! Just wondering how to style jeans and booties; fall and winter are around the corner....do we fold the jeans, do we tucked them inside the booties, do we let them hang over in a wrinkle way? It's a tough one for many of us...BTW I also came to live in Spain, 5 yrs now and happily living in Alicante... Whaaat? You moved to Spain? From Colorado? I am Texan and have been a subscriber since you were in Texas in that great house surrounded by oak trees and your children young. I LOVE Spain...would love to have lived there...but instead I am happily settled in Guatemala. I hope you incorporate some info on Spain in your videos...I assumed you were just on a trip! What a contrast to COLORADO.

Erin., I have longer legs and a shorter torso. Should I stay away from high waisted pants?
If your goal isn't to elongate your legs further you could certainly do a mid rise. Maybe skip the super high rise, but all others should be fine! xo

It depends on what your goal is. If your goal is to look like you have longer legs then YES...I'd say still tuck. Sometimes we have to choose our priority and that can change from day to day. Hope that helps, Laureen! xo
