  • It's been 10 months since I started my UX/UI design bootcamp, so I wanted to share the pros and cons of taking a bootcamp, and whether not it may be worth it to you.

    Hey Jansley, as always your videos are detailed and well informed.
    I wanted to add that ux has become a major fad but there are full inclusive videos on CZcams- like you discussed.
    But further, there is freeCodeCamp that takes the search out of things for you. They collect videos from the web then share full cert programs/learning paths to help people achieve goals for free.
    I highly recommend this to anyone looking to go the free route but wants to avoid the information paralysis.

      Does freeCodeCamp have UX related curriculums? I thought it was just development.

    Hey Josh- I’ve really appreciated your videos, they’ve been super helpful!
    I’m in the foundations bootcamp working on high fidelity stuff at the moment. My experience with it so far is getting burnt out, pushing it aside and then coming back a few weeks later and picking up đŸ€ŠđŸ»â€â™€ïž
    I wanted to check in and see how your Reddit projects have been going and if that’s been a good way to dip your toe in the water outside of Avocademy. I’m considering something similar with some small business owners I know instead of doing CJ- especially since they revoked the refund policy.

    • @jansleyreal
      @jansleyreal  Pƙed rokem

      I totally feel you on burning out, I think it's difficult for that not to happen at some point. The reddit project went well, got a written testimonial out of it. I only did one project though, because I decided to do some webflow courses to actually start to learn how to use it well. I think overall, the Reddit approach is sound though!

    Wild man. I’m just starting CJ this week and I also took Mizko’s course

      Idk about the foundations - I didn't take it. My hunch, after hearing about the course and interacting with some foundations grads, is that you could take Mizko's and skip foundations for sure.@@cesarguerrero1211

    I should be done with my boot camp in August. I don't think I'll be doing CJ, I should be able to get some local work and I think I may also go into coding so I can make my own apps. Don't see the experience I get from foundations getting me a job which is disappointing.

      @jansleyreal  Pƙed rokem +2

      If you can get some local work, then that would be great! Only thing you may want to explore is figuring out how to do a collaborative project with a few people. I've gotten multiple questions about collaboration in interviews.

    Is there a time limit for the career jumpstart program?

    • @jansleyreal
      @jansleyreal  Pƙed rokem +1

      There is a fairly strict timeline, yes. I believe they will work with you for 6 months during the job hunt part, but sometimes will extend it as long as you submit the required number of monthly applications

  • @BONES9972
    @BONES9972 Pƙed rokem +1

    I know with Avocademy CJS you have to do all those applications to get a refund of you don't land a job. Would you say you meet the criteria to request a refund or are just interested in continuing with the program until you land job job? Awesome vids of your process and I hope you land a position soon.

    • @jansleyreal
      @jansleyreal  Pƙed rokem +1

      A couple people told me that CJ revoked that job guarantee. I don't know if it's true though, I haven't looked into it. I did not meet the criteria. There was one month where I really slacked and didn't submit many apps. I'm just pushing forward at this point. Thank you!

    • @neelymax
      @neelymax Pƙed rokem +2

      As a recent Avocademy Foundations grad, I can confirm that they recently revoked the job guarantee for CJ. They said it was because students were fabricating the requirements, like applying for a bunch of non-UX-related jobs each month just to meet the quota (for example). I'm even more hesitant to spring for CJ than I was before. 😅

    • @LunitaArtCraft
      @LunitaArtCraft Pƙed rokem

      @@jansleyrealJob guaranteed was removed that's correct. It's mostly because there are also less jobs out there to apply too. Those students who enrolled previously before the change are still okay meaning job guaranteed will still be in effect only for them.
      If you missed a month unfortunately you will owe them money. Even if you didn't get a job. So get ready to pay that 5k. There's some payment plans you could do though. That's what I did so I can pay off the debt slowly since I can't afford it all in one go.

      @@jansleyrealWhen it came to the job guarantee, I was told I started too late on the job search even though I met all the requirements. But the thing is, its not my fault CJ projects get delayed (either by the client or mentor approving our work) so by the time I started the job search, it was already too "late". I felt they screwed me out of the guarantee which they heavily advertise back then
