    I might have another opinion : I think that it's important from times to times to see games like these, where players make "for you" bad moves, but for us (people in the same rank) we might not know how to respond to these over plays, and then we either puppy go or rage

  • @6zhn
    @6zhn Před 5 lety +6

    I think there's a lot of these players in 5-6k on KGS, I've had many rage inducing games that just drag on with these super weak moves and then they resign during counting. This looked exactly like my memory of KGS games.

    Hey Dwyrin, in answer to your question about how to proceed with your future basics V.O.D.s, New York Institute of Go has a youtube channel which is starting to upload online games. Perhaps you could grab some time from one of their players and have a basics series where you can explore Fuseki. Showing how you can expect the game to proceed at different levels of play, strategies, trick moves, etc. All without randomly finding an opponent who will play ball, creating a billion accounts, or playing unranked games.

    Batts, to your question on how to avoid ranking up while still playing good basics games, have you considered losing some of these on purpose? I don't mean playing like garbage just for rank's sake, I mean playing common sdk mistakes, explaining why they're bad, and explaining how you'd minimize the impact of those mistakes.

    These games fit my experience of rated games on KGS (currently 4k there): a very good server to learn to punish overplays

    I think if you don't want your accounts to rank up, then you give them to your students to play with so that they lose a few games on your behalf. Or you just throw a few games yourself.

    It's not just solid Basics that allows one to emulate an A.I. style. It's really, really, really, REALLY good reading ability. I mean you basically have to be able to read out a sequence all the way to end-game.

    While I think there is something in what Islam Elshoboksh points out in his comment, I also think that you could encounter sufficient overplay on other servers and just cut KGS out entirely.

      Nah its not that. I play a lot of students around this level and see their games. These free games are something else entirely...

    I don't think the people in these games 'dont care' about the game. This is just how 5 kyus on KGS have learned to play the game, because that stuff works on the other 5 kyus. (I say this as someone close to 5 kyu on KGS).

    Why 'hi, gg' is rude? I see it quite often on KGS. So do the same :(

    • @dwyrin
      @dwyrin  Před 5 lety +7

      Cause GG stands for 'good game' something you dont know until the end. In a lot of online games its something you say at the end. To say it at the start is considered to declare the game already over (ie, you've already lost, have no chance). Not always the case, but some consider it rude.

      @@dwyrin I've been seeing non-english speakers saying 'gg' at the start of games as a way of saying "have a good game"... not understanding the history in competitive e-sports as a end game way of being gracious or suggesting the game was worthy.
      Normally I give it a pass because, again, it's a non-native speaker so they just don't understand it.
      What bothers me, or what I find rude, is when a player makes a good move and perhaps captures a group I'm sacrificing for influence and they chat 'gg' at move 70. That's annoying because they are suggesting I should resign and I'm suggesting they can eat my newly acquired influence. Now the game isn't decided yet, IMO, so 'gg' in this case is rude and if I'm just too 'ddk' to see it then it's very rude because they should be teaching me at that point... but this was different and I think the non-native speaker is just trying to get the 'gg' in before the end of the game feeling it's a formality.
      YMMV.
