- Here's a great definition or, better, a great "re-definition" of church! Karl Malden, as the priest, gets it right. What would happen if the churches in America adopted this sort of gritty, street-smart approach to ministry and community reordering? Sounds like the Kingdom of God to me.
One of the best monologues from one of the best films in history.

An extraordinary monologue. Malden's character was based on a real-life priest who lived and worked on the West Side of Manhattan.
When Malden gets hit in the head with a can..it wasn't in the script..and it busted his head open..but he never stopped!..He never missed a beat!..what a performance..if I didn't know he was an actor..i would swear he was a real Priest!
Yeah that didn’t happen.
That speech is enough to turn this Protestant into a Catholic. Brilliant writing, brilliant
acting.

Marlon must have liked his acting to pair up with him in One Eyed Jacks. Here he was good. I am impressed.

Amen! For my money, Karl Malden gave the greatest supporting performance of any movie actor, ever. Eddie O'brien beat him out that year in The Barefoot Contessa.

This was my favoriet sceen of the movie
"Two Ton" Tony Gallento and Tami Mauiello were former ex heavyweight boxers in this film. Gallento was a former bouncer who got a shot at Joe Louis in the forties and talked alot of trash before getting his block knocked off by Joe. My favorite line in the movie is the one given to the fighters, DEFFFFINATLY!
The Best Scene Ever In The Movies....
After punching out Tami how Brando looks at Eva tells the whole story of how he felt about the docks. Great performance

Great movie, and really effective use of shadow in this scene. Only movies like this and The Godfather seem to use shadow so well.
