The Gary Matthews Jr catch to me is in the top 3 all time. He took his eyes off the ball, had about half a second to track it, then caught it blind. Still makes my jaw drop.

The Matthews catch is my vote for number one of all time. There are lots and lots of lots of choices (frankly I'm not even sure the Jim Edmonds one was HIS best, let alone one of THE best) but when I think of all the baseball I've ever watched, I always come back to this one. Also, Jackie Bradley Jr had one in extra innings against Baltimore that was equally ridiculous.

Otis Nixon climbing 12 foot wall to rob Andy van-slyke was the best I've ever seen. The Jim Edmonds catch with the angels was also a top 5 all time at least. Jeter making a running catch and then diving in the front row isn't anywhere near the top catches of all time.

As an Oakland A’s fan who’s always hated Jeter I can assure you that might be #1 on the list. It showed his heart & hustle, being that it was a foul ball that he didn’t need to bother for to make the out. He literally outran his own teammates who were in greater position but didn’t show concern. Derek also risked highest injury on the play by far compared to the rest here! But most of all it was his run speed n acceleration that was most impressive.. then stretching his full body out while never losing sight of the ball amongst the crowd. I stretched out and made a diving backhand grab about 6 inches off the ground across the body. I bounced up and threw the guy out that was running from first to second as he took off not giving me a chance to catch it. The boys loved that one. There were a couple dive over the fence catches but those were on short fences. Tore my pants on one I had to leave the game. Great stuff to be sure, but you should see the catch Fred Lynn made in right field that used to be on the introduction to wide world of sports (something like it) in the 1970's. He was laying on top of the fence and caught the ball 4 over it, scratched his side up some as well. Then there is the crazy stuff the Kevin Pillar did in Toronto for a few years. Pretty special.

Kirby Pucketts 1991 Game 6 World Series catch to prevent the Atlanta Braves from extra bases, should have been on this list or everyone's top 10 list of this type of category, compared to a couple of others that's aren't even a top 20 in mt opinion, because without that catch hw doesn't hit the game 6 game winning home run and the Braves would have been 1991 World Series Champions beating the Twins 4-2 instead of Minnesota winning it 4-3. And we never get the great phrase "We'll see you tomorrow night."

All of these lose to the catch Otis Nixon made on Andy Van Slyke in Atlanta, preserving a 13-game winning streak for the Atlanta Braves. Otis Nixon had to catch the ball over the wall in Atlanta Fulton County Stadium. The wall was around 11 to 12 feet high. Imagine if basketball players had to dunk on a 12-foot high basketball goal. The fans gave Otis Nixon one of the greatest standing ovations ever! You need to check that one out! All of these catches pale in comparison to Otis Nixon's catch!

Souza very nearly overran that ball. Can you imagine if he hadn't caught it -- a rookie who had spent more than half the year in AAA and hadn't done much to impress at the MLB level? He would have been run out of town. Souza was a journeyman for most of his career, having one standout season with the Rays in 2017, and retired last year. But he'll always have that catch.
