So I’ve been self learning and training my eye for the last 16 years! As soon as my youngest child graduated I signed up for Interior Design school! 🎉🎉🤗!! I’m loving it! Wow! SketchUp in 3 hours sounds impossible . I have struggled with a window elevation for like 2 days while watching a course video of someone doing something very similar to what i was trying to do. But trying to get more and more used to it. Loving your work and your channel. You are an inspiration!

Am staring to get burnt out especially when I'm part of a huge project moving into construction project with little design work and too much co-ordination. The architects you named - frank lloyd wright for example - was practicing decades ago. Back in the day, when they were building america. Anyone who had a little talent , enthusiasm, and perseverance could manage to find the thing they needed. Any body could put to the developing empire.
In 2020ies its gone. Its an expectation to first go to college and learn what the accumulated knowledge is about pretty much anything.
Right now in america we pretty much buy the degree: teachers dont teach, they want you to "google it" and come up with sth. Its a mess.
So no, im afraid you need the degree. America is not what it used to be.
I can’t agree or disagree with you, because it all depends on what path are you willing to pursue and what is it exactly you want in your life, I believe in 2021 anyone can learn interior design just but enough research, books and community plus coaches, if what you are after is a traditional type of job then of course you are going to feel like going in without a degree might be intimidating or difficult, but I can guarantee you, even with a degree (as far as a PHD) your work in the field is entirely different and you will learn something new everyday.
I agree with you that some professors have never practiced a day in the field so that’s why they fail to teach practical tips other than theory
If you really want to pursue anything don’t let a degree stop you, passion and being eager to learn is what’s important!
