In a few decades this guy will be regarded as a music legend.
People, especially in the socialist media generation, confuse popularity for infamy. Honestly, like everything...time will tell.
This guy is definitely a mastermind among us musicians. Unfortunately the industry is doing a fantastic job of hiding great real music from the average listener.
Its hard to think of anyone in the music industry who's more busy than this guy. Michael League composes and arranges 24/7, runs a studio in Brooklyn, produces for multiple artists, books world tours, manages a record label, promotes an entire music festival and multiple bands on social media, leads a band of 20+ people who all have different ideas and personalities, does clinics around the world, etc. The amount of raw work and hustle within his body and mind will go down in history as one of the biggest forces in Jazz and in music.
I’m a recent convert to SP & M League, but I think he is / will be a musical icon is because he is an intelligent, balanced, considerate individual who thinks more of others than himself.
My guitar teacher at my old high school taught micheal back in the day, small world he is doing amazing things today geez!
Oh wow … I went to see them play in Portugal last weekend. Absolutely amazing
Mitch, you did a great job interviewing Michael League. Great research, great questions in a great setting.
I'm just dropping a comment to add to the ones above- brilliant interview, the questions were measured and well researched, you gave Michael League so much space to answer without ever once interrupting. This interview is of a high standard.
The first time I watched one of these I was blown away by Mitch as an interviewer. He really is great at these.
I 4th this! Very impressed with the depth of questions and letting Michael talk and express himself. Learned a lot and as always, inspired by how he thinks.
Snarky puppy is a movement that will change the world in the future and one day I hope they inspire to bring back music to all the schools it saves lives it truly does. Keep going Michael and know that nothing you do with music is in vain
I will stand up here and testify that, when I was in school, music saved my life.
Michael and the Puppy are the epitome of modern music. Joyfulness.
He’s so right about the content creators being the less respected and rewarded part of media shared culture. So spot on.
Phenomenal interview! I've wanted to pick this fellas brain for awhile now.
haha he comes across as such an arty eccentric type at times, lovely guy and wonderful musician
Excellent interview... Really appreciated hearing his words on the group's journey and his take on the creative space
That was by far, the best one I have seen you do Mitch. Thank you. Just discovered Snarky and this was SO much fun to watch. What a phenomenal talent Mr. League is.
I'm really starting to like this guy. What a visionary...
I love this guy he brought the real music back into my live. Silva is just a master piece of collaboration and modern production techniques, I'm a composer too and I withdrew all my content off the streaming services, looking forward how Michaels new distribution concept works out. Thanks for the great interview.
We're all so lucky to witness the making of a legend.
now this is one great interviewer. really chill, good questions. and michael league is so inspiring damn
One of the most inspiring and educational assets that I've ever come across on the web. Thank you for sharing with the world.
Great. Saw the Sydney concert..I loved to see so many young musicians appreciating this band. You are doing a brilliant job for music my friend
Love this interview and it's definitely circulating in my inspiration tank these days! It's awesome to get a little background to the band's process and how they manage to pull off what they do. These guys are such a positive force for REAL music these days and their hustle is awe-inspiring. All that said Michael just comes across as a humble, genuine, artsy dude who's primary focus really is all about the music. Thanks for posting this up!! 👏🙌🎶
I thought I loved this guy now I know I love this guy great vibe great spirit great musician INTELLIGENT HUMAN BEING much love and respect ❤️
I went to that show in Indianapolis on St. Patrick's day. It was the best show I've been to ever.
It's amazing to work with such motivated people!
I thoroughly enjoyed this interview, thanks a lot!
legit interview
Totally love this guys honesty and commitment to just playing great music
I like this guy a lot and wish him all the best in life.
this is a very well done interview, and michael you are inspiring me to do creative music
18:05... Learning to write will make one less articulate. Brilliantly expressed...
Wow the intensity from this guy is inspiring enough , the excellent music’s almost a side product of his genius .
Brillant interview. Michael has a great view about potential opportunities for content providers to balance the domination of intermediaries. Same logic could be used with many other industries that were seriously changed by internet.
Brilliant interview...I would love to jam with Snarky Puppy in the collective...Very OCD people are my kind of people...☮🔥
That was a very interesting interview! Thanks for sharing 😄
Its the first time i actually hear Michael speak. it's 2023 september . Amazing Dude that wants to do good. One super healthy statement he just made is "To me and Album is a sacred Thing" THAT tells me a lot about the Man. We all can do this , come back to the "Sort of normal" That the Content providers, as he puts it getting actually Paid FAIRLY! Thanks Michael for standing up and creating Solutions.
Really solid interview. Thanks
I saw them on the tour he mentioned I think. Incredible.
Met this guy as he was walking away from this interview at Sweetwater! He was in the bass room alone with me, it was like a dream come true.
Wow, can't say this enough, great interview.
Came here to find any doubt against elitist jazz players, and I find a humble musical genius who is already fulfilling his goal, inspiring people like me to play the music I want, popular or not.
Any chance you have an extra hour of this lol? By the way Mr. League, I was in the front row of Irving plaza a day before new years. As usual you guys annihilated. Big fan much love 🤘🏾✌🏾
That was a really great interview....
Very few players speak to me both with actual voice and musical voice like Michael does. I could watch listen to him play and talk music all day...
It is like a continuation of Zappa’s work and band
very inspirational I learned alot
Great interview....!
Great interview!
That analogy comparing food and music at 7:54. Couldn't have said it better myself.
@5:45 on is the most important words and realizations mentioned. What words of wisdom.
16:12. Yes...love that. Treat it like a listener. EXACTLY what is done!
Hey, Michael is into this full-circle thang and having fun with it most of the time. But more important is that he's evolving new ideas which aren't rely on old concepts. Besides that he's a cool guy who can touch younger generations too. There's a lot more to come, I guess ...
Snarky Puppy videos should be played in junior high and high school music classes and band classes it would bring back a respect for real music and real musicians
Mentions Jack Conte @ 13:20. Michael League, you're my freakin' hero.
just love getting inside the mind of one of the soon to be greats
I Love u Michael
we have it planned... sometimes! :-)
I'd love to see Michael League do a live bass duet with Geddy Lee. Now that would be magic.
I love Snarky Puppy !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 🤓❤SNARKY PUPPY
A few years later, any word on how he’s getting on with that streaming service thing?
6 minute mark is so painfully true :(
Aí e referencia 👍👏👏👏
*en·thu·si·asm*
etimology
Early 17th century (sense 2): from French enthousiasme, or via late Latin from Greek enthousiasmos, from enthous ‘possessed by a god, inspired’ (based on theos ‘god’).
Thanks for being contagious, MIke!
He’s a modern day a Johnny Appleseed man. Spreading the word.
"I'm a very OCD kind of person." 😬 It's okay because it's you, Michael.
Good questions, good answers. quite an informative delight! thanks, Sweetwater, and Sir League.

'theory comes from music that works.' Thank you, I've been fighting with this theory stuff for far too long. time to just play what sounds good. I mean, theory is very helpful! But it's okay to go outside the lines.
Michael League of Legends
"...or is that still behind the curtain?" Haha I see what you did there ;)
His Fibonacci Sequence t-shirt tells me a lot. I'm very new to jazz but I'm a huge math dork and from the music I've heard from this dude, patterns and sequences are VERY apparent. I'd be willing to bet that most jazz musicians are mathematically inclined.
Unless he gets an alternate bass player, it's not a collective -- it's the Michael League Band.
I might just cancel my apple music subscription after this interview. I'm gonna buy all my albums separately from now on. if anyone cares to do the same.
the thumbnail tho hahahaha
Whats the name of the song in the outro?
Genius.
When was this interview done????
Does anybody know who is the half swedish, half Thai singer that sounds like a bjork/NIN hybrid he was referring to?
somebody got the intro/outro song ?
I need that Eliades Ochoa record
The only interview where the interviewee admits he did not answer the question XD
If you haven't, be sure to watch Michael League in this exquisite jam czcams.com/video/1s-f7dIc2jg/video.html. Awesome musicians, sound and energy
ML with that hair looks like that football player from belgium
I love that golden ratio t League has on.
Yeah Poland is waiting for the guys to Come over in 2022, "
8:05 :O
Quick question,is Michael wearing an ankle-monitor?
With so many musicians, the pie must be sliced pretty thin, guess they all do their own thing on the side.
the interviewer looks and sounds like neil degrasse tyson
@@JLongTom Yeah, there's like something that's a little off. Can't really put my finger on it.
This generations Peter Gabriel. Run and buy So Many Me!
"Disneyland for people who love music". Want to be among the first subscribers!
I think he and bela fleck are parallels in music but inversely mirrored. They both are traffic cops to groups of otherworldly musicians. However, Michael possessing feelings and a soul make them entirely different
kinda looks like a young jojo mayer
he reminds me of ramsay bolton
the interviwer is like the white niel degrasse tyson haha
hi valdio _o/
“Albums are a sacred thing” Amen
:-)
People have not stopped buying albums...Vinyl is still very purchased....
Is it me or does this guy look like Michael McDonald....
“Whats happening in the world” *checks video date* ohh yeah, he’s not refering to COVID
Just a driven guy, like a Pat Metheny, where the music is their life, 24 hours a day...
"Im a big believer in the idea that music theory comes out of music. It's the explanation of why things work, it's not the formula for things to work."
I think Michael League worded it perfectly
It’s been said before... victor wooten talks about that a lot where theory explains what you do, not tells you what to do.. in so many words and I have always known that. People learn to talk before they understand proper English, if you speak English that is.
Man, this quote. Michael is in complete command of his craft.
I was going to post that quote as well. What an articulate way to describe composition.
Kumakaway na naman si Sharlene!
