  • Do you need a diagnosis for your VA sleep apnea disability claim before you file? It might make sense to be diagnosed with sleep apnea before you file your VA disability claim and not rely on the VA sending you to a C&P exam and sleep study (they might not). You'll need a sleep study/ home sleep apnea test to get the diagnosis and subsequently a prescription for a CPAP. You can ask your primary care provider for a referral to a sleep specialist/ for a sleep apnea test, or you can try an online telehealth provider who would ship a sleep apnea test to your home and provide a diagnosis based on the results of that test. The advantage to that is that it could be faster, but depending on your insurance you may need to pay more out of pocket. If you're in the market for paying for nexus letters on VA claims though, admittedly the consultation for a home sleep apnea test may not be that expensive to you comparatively speaking.
