      - Use your vote / right to protest
      - Contact local politicians to tell them what you care about
      - Switch your pension to divest from fossil fuels (said to be the most impactful individual action you can do)
      - Switch bank accounts too

      @wurple6353 Před 2 lety +3

      You've got the right idea, at this point, individual actions will do very, very little in making any difference, we must hold leaders and corporations accountable. I don't know how, you know your country's situation better, but really really if we don't callout and force the biggest polluters to drastically change their ways, we will not be able to do much to reduce emissions. We can't afford a 2 degrees rise in temperature, so these big corporations and industries need to be stopped.

The average is something like 12L per run. Which is about a washing up bowl's to the brim capacity, but for the amount I can fit in our dishwasher I'd replace the water 2 or 3 times doing it by hand so at like 2/3 full each time that's like 24L.

    just make alternative energies' cheaper and capitalism will take care of this issue for you; you can't limit production of energy until the alternatives are in place, just as economical, and sustainable.. Nobody wants to talk about ow there isn't enough resources on earth for everyone to own an electric car, there aren't enough power stations to produce the electricity, and the ones currently release more emissions to charge your car than it's gasoline cousin release, and the infrastructure of power transmission cables couldn't handle the loads at ALL.
    So what happens if an oil production site malfunctions and they didn't have the new locations to tap into.. You think there's an economy damaging shortage now, you have no idea how reckless this approach is.
    Pointing the finger in the wrong direction.
    Governments could just invest more money into alternatives and make it affordable. I'd wager if every major nation invested 5% of their GDP into this, they could have viable solutions within 2-3 years, but they don't. why? Because they don't want to admit while pandering for climate votes that the alternative sources aren't actually viable, and the grid isn't actually capable.

    • @MintyDragonfly
      @MintyDragonfly Před 2 lety +4

      Sorta the point of windmills is that they last a very very long time so they don’t need to be recycled. The point is to use the resources we still have to make things that can last and continue to produce cleaner energy for as long as possible, rather than just continue to use up the limited resources we have right now and be left with nothing at the end of it. Electric cars are a difficult issue because you’re right about both production and disposal, hopefully there are scientists out there trying to come up with alternatives as we move toward the electric vehicle Renaissance, but they’re the only major alternative option to gasoline fuelled vehicles right now and apparently are slightly better for the environment overall so that’s our lot for now. If your solution to the undeniable fact that we’re heading towards both an irreversible pollution nightmare and total consumption of all the natural gas/oil fuel resources in the world is to say “green energy is a joke”, you’re trying to make yourself feel smarter without actually thinking at all. “Green energy” as it exists now might not be perfect or completely clean, but it’s certainly better than the alternative when you consider the future of the environment.

      @@vffncl0 I absolutely did.
      I'm guessing you're still not following me.
      If you stop drilling for more oil, you don't replenish the oil you've used up.
      Therefore, it doesn't matter if you're using it for cars or heat or to make new EV's - you still NEED oil to continue producing.
      What'cha think lubricates the factories that produce things like cell phones, Tesla cars, solar panels, wind turbines?
      Everything in our current world utilizes oil in SOME capacity. If ALL the vehicles on the road globally, immediately stopped using petroleum based products as a FUEL SOURCE, you'd STILL be tearing through obnoxious amounts of oil.
      So if you DON'T keep finding more sources, not only will you not have replenishment for the oil consumed, but the costs of any product that uses plastic (as an example) will skyrocket. We're literally experiencing this currently as one of the bigger governments holding the buying power for oil products has openly admitted to attempting to stop oil production. As a result, oil produces are doing everything they can to save their business before their business is literally legislated out-of-business.
      If I harvest mushrooms and the government says they're going to make mushrooms illegal in 5 years, do you think I would be investing in mushroom cleaning infrastructure? Would I be hiring more people to harvest mushrooms? Would I be taking out loans to expand my business?
      Or would I be shrinking my business, reducing staffing, reducing production and as the supply drops, I raise my prices as that's what the free market allows me to do, all the way up until the end where my business is essentially shuttered through restrictions, limitations and policy?
      Which seems more likely to you?

      Whether the food we grow is meant for human consumption or animal consumption it requires the same about of oils and pesticides. Since factory farmed animals eat 7 times their own weight before slaughter, we're using 7 times the amount of oils and pesticides to create the same weight in meat as we do in plants. Congregate every factory farm on the planet into a single place and it would take up the space the size of Africa. If everyone on earth adopted a plant based diet then to provide the same amount of food to those people we'd only need 1/7th that space. The math is quite simple.

Oh, it's because it's a physical barrier to stop the spread of an airborne disease while barely inconveniencing me at all.'
