Howdy neighbour from Edmonton! You ever need an extra hand or two for a week I'd drive on over just for the work experience of seeing what goes into keeping our vital dairy industry going first hand. I love the feeling of accomplishment after a solid days work on our tree "farm" however the season for that is done. Bored out of my mind and would much rather be kept busy... or if you know any other dairy farms that need some extra labour. Loads of experience here, that's my thing.

Does the cow shit that you store stay in liquid form throughout winter? Specifically, the one that is under the building. If so, one could use that liquid body as a geothermal source of heat. Simple poly pipe lined around the pit (no junctions) and a foot off the bottom (on the wall). You could then pump a glycol/sugar/salt liquid through it to keep things from freezing in other parts of your barn.
