Butoh and improvisational dancer. Butoh performer with Sankai Juku dance troupe. Pursuing the potential of improvisational dance as communication on an individual basis. Born Tokyo 1957. Studied improvisational dance at Mitsutaka Ishii workshops 1982 - 85. First solo performance in 1983. In solo dance, which begins in the experience of reconfirming one’s own physical presence in the midst of psychological crisis, it is possible to dance improvisationally, as an emotional interaction with where you are, starting from one’s own life-size body standing there. From 1988 continuing to try dance therapy along with specialists at the psychiatry department at Konan Hospital in Shiga Prefecture. Advisor to Japan Dance Therapy Association. Member Japan Improvisation Association. Part-time lecturer at Kyoto University of Art and Design, J. F. Oberlin University, Kobe University.
国際的な舞踏グループ・山海塾の舞踏手である岩下徹は，ソロ活動では＜交感(コミュニケーション)としての即興ダンス＞の可能性を追求している．
1957年東京生まれ．筑波大学第一学群人文学類哲学専攻中退．79〜80年山海塾に参加，一時その活動を離れるが，86年に復帰後，現在まですべての作品に参加．82〜85年石井満隆ダンスワークショップで即興を学び，83年ソロ活動開始．かつて精神的危機から自分のからだを再確認することで立ち直ったという経験を原点とするソロダンスは，観客の前に等身大のからだで立ち，場との交感から生まれる即興として踊られる．1988年より滋賀県／湖南病院（精神科）で医療の専門スタッフと共にダンスセラピーの試みを継続実施中．日本ダンスセラピー協会副会長．京都造形芸術大学芸術学部映像・舞台芸術学科助教授．代表的な活動として，1988年より年に１度，＜無音，即興，１時間＞という条件の元で踊る『放下（ほうげ）』シリーズ，1989年より野外や劇場ではない空間で，その場にある音や環境と踊る『みみをすます（谷川俊太郎同名詩より）』シリーズ，音楽・美術・詩・ダンスなどとの日替わり即興セッションの５日間『IMPROVISATIONS』シリーズ（1995〜99年），リアルタイムに放送中にラジオで踊る『ラジオで踊る』，歌謡曲にのせてひとつの恋愛の始まりから終りまでを 踊る『リーベ』（1990，1999年）等のほか，様々な方を対象にしたワークショップがある．
