    Ironsi and his men did not stop the coup. They only hijacked the coup from their juniors. He shiuld have handed over ti the most senior Minister , while Azikiwe was conviniently away on holidays

    • @backinhistory9
      @backinhistory9  Před 18 dny

      Some sources also state that all the Ministers whose lives were spared were terribly AFRAID 😨 and did not want to step into the shoes of the slain Prime Minister. They were scared that they might be killed by the rampaging soldiers. It was in such tensed situation that Nwafor Orizu, then Senate President, called on the most senior military 🪖 officer to take over the reins of power and that senior officer happend to be Gen. Aguiyi Ironsi.

  • @okparaluke5712
    @okparaluke5712 Před 17 dny

    Why didn't you say Ironsi an Igbo man foiled the first military coup? Why didn't mention that Maj. Adewale Ademoyega and Ifeajuna led the Lagos military coup? Ademoyega wrote a book entitled WHY WE STRUCK. Read and understand.
    Since you were mentioning coups in Nigeria, why did you omit Vatsa Coup of 1986? Why did you not mention Obasanjo/Yar'Adua Coup of 1995 and Diya Coup of 1997?

    • @backinhistory9
      @backinhistory9  Před 17 dny

      The video narrates coups that took place, not phantom coups that were orchestrated by Babangida against Mama Vatsa and later by Abacha against Obasanjo. The coups I have reported here are coups that took place. In any case, the video has mentioned that there were some attempted coups.
      Also, I have read Ademoyega's book more than twice. I have it in my library.
      Finally, Gen. Aguiyi Ironsi was an Igbo man. He was born Igbo and died Igbo. When he was murdered and buried in a shallow grave at Lalupon in Ibadan, his remains were later exhumed and flown home to Abia. Are you saying he wasn't Igbo?

    • @okparaluke5712
      @okparaluke5712 Před 17 dny

      @@backinhistory9 there is nothing like phantom coup. A coup is a coup and there must be evidence of planning, attempting to execute or actual execution of the coup. I don't think you know that the first coup in Nigeria(not first military coup) was planned and executed by Obafemi Awolowo in 1962. Onabamiro a federal commissioner then bore witness to this coup and it was confession that made Awolowo to be charged with treason. Why didn't you mention this coup?
