- Odesa, Odessa, Oдеса, or Одесса (however you'd prefer to spell it) is a fantastic Ukrainian city to travel to! I tried my best to capture the feel of its wide streets, relaxed vibe, and unique flavor. And the food in Odesa is the best I've had in Ukraine!

Kyiv scared the shit out of me.
Look now
I am a Brit that has made Odesa my home. I have lived here for 8 years and am now a Ukrainian resident. I have to say your video is one of the very few that I have seen that totally nails what Odessa is about. Really nicely done.
Hi Jason, how are you finding living in Odessa? I intend to do the same from next year. Hot in the summer, cold in the winter, plenty of culture!
@@Rich5131 I love living here, yes it is hot in the summer, definitely get an apartment with aircon. Winters can be extremely cold but not for long periods and the winters tend to be quite dry and without too much biting wind. -2C in London feels a lot less comfortable than -10C here. The culture is great, so many great bars and restaurants, al fresco in the summer and warm and cosy inside in the winter. You can see top class opera for $10 if that's your thing, plenty of cinemas including a few now showing films in English. Its a good city to live.
I was last in Odessa 2 weeks ago. Clouds is currently my favourite restaurant there. Back there again last half of August. Really amazing city
@@Rich5131 So many great restaurants although I have not been to Clouds. If you have not already, try some of the Georgian and Turkish restaurants. Some great food to be had

I’m from Odessa, now living in Germany. Miss my city so much 😭 Odessa is so beautiful , especially in summer ♥️
Wtf crazy ! I love Odessa but I love more moneyyyyy
Are you enjoying living in Germany when you compare mentality etc. to Ukraine?
You are from an amazing city. I am from New Zealand but I can't wait to visit Ukraine one day. Beautiful country and beautiful, friendly people and culture.

Come to Chernivtsi. This is one of the most beautiful cities in Ukraine. A city with a unique atmosphere.

Thank U for your story about our beautiful city! :) Odessa is the best and unique and very special place in the World! I'm very proud to live here! :)
Ah a year old video but brings back great memories. 10 years ago I went every summer for a few years. It was recommended by my Moldovan friend and I loved it the first time I went. It really is pretty. The thing I like most, and it's something I look for in any country I go to, is that the city has a heart and you can walk easily around the centre. Not just some sprawl where you have to taxi from hotspot to hotspot. And there are hundreds of street cafes you can read a book and watch the world go by.
My friend and I used to play chess in the park just off Deribasovskaya when feeling lazy, then go wandering and exploring. The food was amazing and so cheap. From steak to sushi. "So when do you shut?" the answer is always, "When you decide to go home". The people were always so friendly. The police always used to try and shake us down for bribes, threatening a night in the cells, but we always called their bluff and they went off to pick on somebody drunk instead. The worst are the taxis, who start off with a standard $100 charge which you then have to negotiate down to around $4. It wasn't long before we just ended up hitchhiking every time. So easy in Odessa. Just stand by the road and put your hand down by your side and stick two fingers out. The first passing car will stop and ask where you want to go. Offer anything reasonable and they'll take you, even if they were originally going in the wrong direction. Always felt safe, no matter what time of day.
I absolutely recommend going, and maybe I will get to go back one day.
Phillip.
You have next level videography / camera work skills, and everything about it is such a well composed video... I love Ukraine... god bless

Great job man ! In my opinion you have a very accurate observation about this city.
It's mid-April. I just returned from a 2-week trip to Odessa (I'm from the US). I speak no Ukrainian or Russian (except plasibo) and few people I interacted with spoke any English... but I had my google translator for short exchanges. I rode public transportation a lot (about 20 cents per ride)... but probably no more than 10 or 15 different routes... there is so much more to see... and the busses and bus stops were always spotless... no trash and no graffiti. The people obviously care about their city. It was off-season for tourists so I felt very local... when I didn't have to talk. Spring had not yet started so the Countless trees and plants were all bare. I'm going back in late summer or early fall to see all the green. Even in the pre-Spring weather there were many, many people out and about. I visited a number of parks and there were always families with young and older children walking and playing together. Many mothers and fathers pushing baby carriages. It was of course during covid, so masks were required everywhere, but that will probably be part of our lives well into the future. Overall, I LOVED my time in Odessa and am anxious to return.
The Innocents Abroad by Mark Twain might be interesting to read
I'd like also to visit in ukraine.btw the place looks like quite and peaceful.
