Then we have V-mon's related Digimon that were localized as "Vee" which I guess is to make sense with the sound, but the same happens to Huanglongmon because in Japanese, the "Hu" works or sounds as "Fu" and the U in many words is silent, which only explains why Fanglongmon is the localization, is the same with Lightdramon. Then there's Machinedramon, who only makes sense in appearance, but not in context as Mugendramon emphasizes on the origin connected to the Mugen Mountain (Infinity Mt.) And their power source.

Gatomon is a good option for Uver. For a couple reasons, 1- cats are known for bringing 'gifts' to their owners in the form of birds/small rodents By that logic, it makes perfect sense for a delivery Digimon. Also the there's a Japanese Delivery company called "Yamato Transport" they wear green, (like Uver.'s outfit) also their company logo is like a black cat carrying a kitten in its mouth. So that explains why they chose Black Tailmon/Black Gatomon instead of regular.

I know Nico and Kyle look tired/exasperated in a lot of the Digimon videos so I hope the game isn't actually upsetting them too much 😅 It's really fun to watch especially as someone who knows the franchise and it's quirky weird names and inconsistent localizations. This episode was great. BlackGatomon Uver was definitely a bit weird, but I like it mostly because it was in the most recent anime series, Ghost Game. It pretty much does what you'd think: make deliveries and mail. The Digimon Twitter actually releases a lot of art for anniversaries, events, and other stuff and there's a cute art of all the Gatomon variants and Mikemon and Meiccoomon just hanging out.
The real disturbing thing about Betsumon is that it's based on an actual guy they had as one of the promoters for digimon back in the day who actually wore an outfit and makeup like that IIRC? And that's what the Tailmonbetsu is.
I think that Etemom had the same thing, with Etemonkey, or that wa his name, I don't remember well. That's something interesting because there are an amount of Digimon made and designed with a person in mind. Etemon was designed by a Navigator who dressed as Etemon, Betsumon is another example, and then we have HUBmon and Navimon. HUBmon was designed based on Habu Kazumasa, current director of the games, and Navimon was also a Navigator but doesn't have official art.
Black Gatomon was used for the delivery guy one because Yamato is a really famous courier company in Japan. They are often known as Kuroneko (literal translation: black cat) though because they have a black cat as their logo.

Someday I would enjoy people reacting to the Reference Book profiles of various Digimon. The evolutions are a lot less confusing when you stop thinking of Digimon as animals or the like - they're digital, so a cat-like one can become a dog-like one on account of them both having "beast data", etc All they really need is one trait or so in common that can act as their "link" so to speak
There is one more Gatomon Gatomon X, X Digimon are pretty much the same design just stylistically more over the top. Gatomon X's tail is very long and it's holy ring is so worn loosely around the neck because it's huge.
And they didn't even find out that gatomon becomes angewomon and then becomes magnadramon. Just imagine their reactions if they saw the whole line, all these animal themed Digimon with a sexy woman plopped right in the middle
The fact that Gatomon, a cat, evolves from a puppy, evolves into an angel who can then evolve further into an even higher-ranking angel or a dragon depending on the presence of one plot device ring that isn't even exclusive to the Gatomon line is one of the reasons why it is in my top five favorite 'mons.

Kekekekeke kitty kitty time! It seems that the commenters that got to this video first pretty much outlined a lot of the reasons for naming, so I’ll just add what I know! Gatomon: so it seems somewhat unusual that they didn’t just use Tailmon (especially cause the golden ring on its tail is kind of an important feature which gives it the power to uppercut a T Rex for a ohko), but my only reasoning is that they wanted the name to be somewhat foreign. Tail to Japanese is like Gato to Americans. A foreign word with a connection to the digimon. It does get a bit arbitrary though! Black Gatomon: She was created as a counterpart to Gatomon as their evolutions have a rivalry. The rival to Gatomon didn’t have a good pre-evolution, so they just gave her a dark form. Black Gatomon Uver: She is quite an interesting Digimon. As stated, she is based on a real delivery company with a black cat as their logo. Again, something the EN viewers won’t really get it as that company is JP only. I kinda do agree that Uber is unusual to parody as Yamato Transport is more like UPS and there doesn’t seem to be a brand deal. It is suspected that it may have to do with the word Mover, but the base word is already kind of unusual. Mikemon: alright… this one needs explaining. And not the name origin, everyone else already kinda explained that. Here is to explain why there are 3 variants of Gatomon at all. Digimon have 3 attributes based on computer terms. Data which is normal creatures. Vaccine which are antivirus programs. And Viruses, which are more violent and prone to changing environments selfishly. Its sort of an alignment system similar to D&D with Good, Neutral and Evil. As such Gatomon is the Vaccine (hence holy ring), Mikemon is the Data and Black Gatomon is the Virus. Digimon can cross these as they evolve due to my previously explained environmental pressures. Magnadramon: Ya gotta remember that this is a Japanese company. A lot of the most powerful deity-like creatures are dragons. And it has been noticed that Gatomon has connections to holy beings and.. I really wish you showed these guys the Digimon that shows up between Gatomon and Magnadramon just to torture these two even further. The actual archangel is from her counterpart line, so it pretty much is a representation of both Eastern and Western holy dieties. Betsumon: a complete joke digimon. It is based off of Tailmon Betsu, a horrible cosplay from a voice actor and editor for the magazine some of the Digimon manga. The fricking image shown from promotional material became such a meme that they made her into a digimon. Yes we hate it. Yes its episode in Digimon Ghost Game is horrifying as it turns out it can assume your identity through its cosplay, use an illusion to make people think it is you and if you cannot convince someone that it stole your identity, you soon melt away into nothingness as it assumes your life. Hope Nico and Kyle actually enjoy this cause I am seeing their souls leave their bodies as you torture them.

The evolutions are a lot less confusing when you stop thinking of Digimon as animals or the like - they're digital, so a cat-like one can become a dog-like one on account of them both having "beast data", etc
All they really need is one trait or so in common that can act as their "link" so to speak
They can also evolve by aquiring entirely new data/experiences and items.

There is one more Gatomon Gatomon X, X Digimon are pretty much the same design just stylistically more over the top. Gatomon X's tail is very long and it's holy ring is so worn loosely around the neck because it's huge.
And they didn't even find out that gatomon becomes angewomon and then becomes magnadramon. Just imagine their reactions if they saw the whole line, all these animal themed Digimon with a sexy woman plopped right in the middle
BlackGatomon Uver is actually described as an evolution of BlackGatomon
The fact that Gatomon, a cat, evolves from a puppy, evolves into an angel who can then evolve further into an even higher-ranking angel or a dragon depending on the presence of one plot device ring that isn't even exclusive to the Gatomon line is one of the reasons why it is in my top five favorite 'mons.

Funny thing. Recently they canonized Tailmon (no ring) as a rookie level Digimon that can evolve into Tailmon (with ring).

It technically also has a profile on it from an official source, just like how some digimon like Whamon and Minotaurmon have been Adult or Perfect respectively even though we know them differently. Digimon has always kinda worked as an everything can be canon due to how it works. Its all data so every anomaly, every discrepancy can be considered canon.
Edit: Due to the recent promotional DIM card, Gatomon can now evolve into Aquilamon. One of my favorite thing about Digimon is that stuff like this can happen.

"The digivolution is up and running, digihear, digisee, digiknow what's coming. Our digidestiny starts today." Includes things like digiwill, digisize, digipast, digipresent, digidudes, digirule. I believe the digirap was used as the opening to the movie and has the normal English OP insterspliced throughout it. It had early early editing done alongside it in the movie with straight up jpegs of the Digimon float across the screen at random times

Black Gatomon actually has all 3 of my favorite Digimon being Lady Devimon, Lilithmon and Mastemon
So Gatomon normally has the ring but in Adventure 02 they needed to get rid of it so it could armor digivolve because it is a higher level than every other partner digimon. So they just removed it making Gatomon both a champion and rookie level digimon.

It seems that the commenters that got to this video first pretty much outlined a lot of the reasons for naming, so I’ll just add what I know!
Gatomon: so it seems somewhat unusual that they didn’t just use Tailmon (especially cause the golden ring on its tail is kind of an important feature which gives it the power to uppercut a T Rex for a ohko), but my only reasoning is that they wanted the name to be somewhat foreign. Tail to Japanese is like Gato to Americans. A foreign word with a connection to the digimon. It does get a bit arbitrary though!
Black Gatomon: She was created as a counterpart to Gatomon as their evolutions have a rivalry. The rival to Gatomon didn’t have a good pre-evolution, so they just gave her a dark form.
Black Gatomon Uver: She is quite an interesting Digimon. As stated, she is based on a real delivery company with a black cat as their logo. Again, something the EN viewers won’t really get it as that company is JP only. I kinda do agree that Uber is unusual to parody as Yamato Transport is more like UPS and there doesn’t seem to be a brand deal. It is suspected that it may have to do with the word Mover, but the base word is already kind of unusual.
Mikemon: alright… this one needs explaining. And not the name origin, everyone else already kinda explained that. Here is to explain why there are 3 variants of Gatomon at all. Digimon have 3 attributes based on computer terms. Data which is normal creatures. Vaccine which are antivirus programs. And Viruses, which are more violent and prone to changing environments selfishly. Its sort of an alignment system similar to D&D with Good, Neutral and Evil. As such Gatomon is the Vaccine (hence holy ring), Mikemon is the Data and Black Gatomon is the Virus. Digimon can cross these as they evolve due to my previously explained environmental pressures.
Magnadramon: Ya gotta remember that this is a Japanese company. A lot of the most powerful deity-like creatures are dragons. And it has been noticed that Gatomon has connections to holy beings and.. I really wish you showed these guys the Digimon that shows up between Gatomon and Magnadramon just to torture these two even further. The actual archangel is from her counterpart line, so it pretty much is a representation of both Eastern and Western holy dieties.
Betsumon: a complete joke digimon. It is based off of Tailmon Betsu, a horrible cosplay from a voice actor and editor for the magazine some of the Digimon manga. The fricking image shown from promotional material became such a meme that they made her into a digimon. Yes we hate it. Yes its episode in Digimon Ghost Game is horrifying as it turns out it can assume your identity through its cosplay, use an illusion to make people think it is you and if you cannot convince someone that it stole your identity, you soon melt away into nothingness as it assumes your life.
Hope Nico and Kyle actually enjoy this cause I am seeing their souls leave their bodies as you torture them.

It occurs to me that Black Gatomon Uver is probably a reference to Takkyubin, a Janpanese delivery service, like Hermes/Evri, who's logo is a cute little icon of a cat, carrying its kitten by the scruff, in a similar style to the symbol on Uver's forehead
You see their logo & tons of their delivery vans all over the place in Japan - So 'Black cat = Parcel delivery' would be strangely intuative to Japanese viewers
which explains why they used Black Gatomon as a base, rather than regular Gatomon or even just making a brand new postal-worker Digimon
Still think it's a bit odd they referenced Uber in the name though - Uver's job is to deliver letters & parcels, not deliver food or offer transportation, but whatever~
It's probably just to add an extra layer of plausible deniability~
