Soulmask has been a blast for me and the better Conan in every way. Recommended even if its in EA. Looking forward to the mods
so i was playing with the sword and shield yesterday and found a repost ability. if you block an attack with the shield, the sword tip lights up. If you attack when this happens the sword will thrust twice from behind the shield, makes fighting multiple enemy's much more doable.
If you get lucky with your Masteries you can have shield being even more OP as you can use Stamina to fully heal with the ability called Vertical Wall!
I unintentionally found this out during my first gameplay. Made the spear and thought it was a two hand weapon. Crafted a Shield as well in order to add a one hand weapon to it but then I saw that it works with the spear. Awesome!
Spear and Shield are basically similar as in Dark Souls - they are incredibly strong and cheezy - safe, but slow. Greatswords are incredible for aoe and staggers, while Dual Swords are amazing for dmg and bleeds
Yup in the end it comes down to play style. But this set-up is a good starting point for anyone struggling.

It's the yellow bar if it reach 0 you get a Knock down for a couple sec .

Yes. If they parry you. You will get stunned just like them. If that yellow bar depletes you also get stunned. They have this bar as well.
As a greatsword and greathammer enjoyer who plays with friend who has shield spear i gotta admit its broken af.
Taking for days, scorpion pull, high dps on heavy attack.

btw i got a Combo so if u get a thrall with the rage shout ability where u tale 50% less dmg u can use the hammers 60% dmg reduction super armour skill and it reduces all dmg to 1 also u can switch weapons and the effect still applies just re apply it when ever the hammer buff runs out. but over all the defense on shield is more persistent
When block with a shield and blade, ur blade gets a white glow at tip. Tap left click and it will attack with guard up

Also I noticed when you stun an enemy you can do up to 2 charge up attacks and then reposte them as well.
Game needs some polishing.. I got a recruit with HP drain ability and she is practically immortal with spear / shield. Only way to kill perma stun lock to death but very hard to do.
I send NPC to work because she trivialized game :))

Most players, inclusive me, on my server use dual blade sword. Didnt seen anyone to use spear or shields
You missed some key points which I think even out the shields useful vs. other weapons. First, because you take a stamina hit when both swinging and getting hit while blocking you will run out of stamina quickly. Second, enemies can still hit you from side and behind. Third, there are MANY abilities that break shield blocks

I'm still working on that. I'm not sure it matters where you get them and chances are if you see them using a shield they probably are going to be good with it but I still need more research time.

You main character it's not gonna matter I suggest dumping them into carry weight or honestly whatever you want.
For your followers distribute them based on perks and the build you are using.
For example if they have an ability like the one shown in the video that is damage based on HP dumping a bunch of points into HP and spear damage would be really good.

when trying to target body parts, like if a tribesman has a perk to do more damage to a certain part
is it based on the weapons animation landing there, or where your aiming dot is
Where your weapon is landing the hit which should be where you are aiming. But for example if you have a sword and their right arm is down and you do a slash from the right it's gonna hit the arm. But I would not be super concerned with this. From what I've seen it doesn't matter too much as fights are normally kinda messy.

The spear is also OP because you can keep moving while poking. (lots of cheesy tactics😅)

Anyone can tell why my bleed mod 2 on my spear not working? No bleeds and I have tested it. Kind of pointless 🤷🏽♂️
The Bleed mod only reduce the "bleed bar" than a enemy has by 5 by this mod.
When hey have a 100 Bleed bar your need 20 hits too prog the blood damage.
The blood mod dont give you a 100% save 5 bleed damage

Is there a mask variant that synergises with the spear?
Early mask I think civilization works well because of the healing passive in mimicry mode. In addition it gives that permanent defense buff. Overall it's a great synergy more so for shield but with spear its pretty amazing.

Very nice now where to get these top tier shields? Also can I point out that every repair lowers durability.... this kinda sucks but makes sense it just bad when you want to repair something before you go out as you don't want an inconvenience with a weapon breaking you could lower the durability lower then what you just had it at. I've noticed the durability going down with every repair on bone gear wish I noticed this when I was working with stone would probably only use a bone tool/weapon 2/3 times before it becomes useless with no durability :/

After short while you should realize that it's waste of time to repair (unless it's red gear), it's more convenient to carry around 2-3 weapons, 2-3 pickaxes (if you going to mine), everything breaks so fast it's not worth repairing. The only things that seem to last 'long' seem to be shield, bow and skinning knife

I can see the similarities in combat a tad but I actually couldn't get into Conan very much but I am absolutely obsessed with Soulmask!
It's about as much a Conan Exiles clone as Conan Exiles is a Rust clone... Like they are in the same survival genre, there is going to be a little cross over.. but they aren't clones.
Combat is very different. whereas in Conan i feel like its basically get a good thrall and let the thrall do everything for you. In soulmask the player has to get good and involved and the companion is really there as an equal element of help. Bosses in Conan are so powerful and the player so weak its not even worth getting into range because unlike the thrall you die in 1/2 hits. In soulmask the tribesmen have exactly the same hp if you equip them properly and they serve as a distraction to enemies so you can bandage yourself, while the player does the same for them if they get low on hp. While both tribesmen and player deal similar amounts of damage. Even after the thrall rework in Conan just going into a thrall built is the only real way to overcome the game’s challenges

Its already far ahead of what Conan Exiles started as before they reworked the entire combat system. That use to be a single animation of swinging your weapon over and over lol
far to much CC seems to spoil a lot of the fun to be honest.
Actually, when i try pressing F while using a spear it doesnt launch the spear scorpion style, it does a tripple attack and some fwd launch, it used to do the scorpion atk, how do i get it back ??
hit O and check you mastery, you can change the abilities of the weapon.

How do you level up shield mastery? I'm using spear and shield in combat and blocking a lot but shield mastery not going up.
Just find a creature to attack you and only block. it will raise your mastery
just increase shield exp rate x5, easy win. at least thats firesparks pro tip from the last video XD
Your base character only goes to 50. Guarantee that's your issue.
Go fight some tribespeople and spam shield bash it will level up like 5 levels per hit

So i was reading the shield ability in the description it says the damage buff is .5% of your hp... your hp is over 1million
His testing for blocking stamina reduction was pretty scuffed too
Well, broken in what difficulty sir? because with 1.2 millions of HP seems really easy. idk if this video is a good tips at all. Full bronze gold/red, best food you have, best tribesman you have with control and deploy, best mods and you can be deleted in seconds on normal difficulty. Even in easy you can get deleted and your companion too if you try to fight (I will not spoil) elites mobs way behind your level. I wonder if anyone can recommend a difficulty mode for solo players because its seems "normal mode" is not for SOLOING.
I can confirm his data, regardless of his hp for making the video itself. Sparky has another video for good server settings you should check out, but you can also lower the damage enemies do to you in the same location shown in the video. Its just another option! I recommend checking out that video, and using those settings, then tweaking the damage numbers until you reach your own personal "fun level" :D Enjoy!

So broken at the proper gear level. The HP you see me have at points in this video is from admin gear. It's so I can test things without worrying about taking damage and dying. Note that when not testing things and just playing this is the set up I use. If you are in and area that your gear level belongs in you are very strong. Even areas with people that may be a little more difficult you are strong. Even more so if you are using a good follower.
Where are u stuck? And give example of "best" stuff. There is tons u can do but takes alot of setup. Q n a one I think they give some examples.

It's only for testing things and B-roll. You'll notice there are a few clips in there where I actually do not have it. Just makes things easier when I'm trying to get footage or test things. But yes it's admin armor it puts you in god mode.

My HP has nothing to do with the info in the video. I'm wearing admin armor for testing and filler footage.
If I'm letting a cat slap me around for 5 min so I can see what my stamina does the last thing I wanna worry about if how's my HP.

How far have u gotten? Things start to hurt if u miss a dodge and fortresses and barracks can have alot of attacks coming in. I mean if u roll in a group... ya that's good
Air attack is way to easy to parry
IMO depends stuation.. I used dual wield against fast moving targets Eg. panther.. going to panther early level with spear / shield kinda suicide.. Easily breaks block and stunlocks.. But can't catch me while I am using dual blade.. Spear / shield decent for human targets especially when overnumbered.
Why would I care what my followers have as skills? Does my char no good
Your initial character has a max level cap of 50 for skills.
@@reggieb3349 Oh man so I have to take over the various tribe members at some point? That sucks as I am now in bronze and been solo the whole time. No tribe (kicked them out as soon as I completed the quest to get them).

@@rottn1580 That first tribesman is usually stupidly good for no effort. Though I might just be lucky. But lucky you, if you have no tribesmen I noticed if you relocate your bonfire, a new one will run up and join you.
If you aren't willing to do this, legit just uninstall the game. Not being mean. Your base character is garbage and the game will be impossible for you.
