For a long time it was believed that the lyrics of the song spoke about the life of the singer who, as a teenager, lived on the streets of Aberdeen in Washington after being kicked out of his home, and who survived by sleeping and fishing under the street bridge. Young.
However, it was not until 2001 that Cobain's biography, Heavier than Heaven by writer Charles Cross, confirmed that during the four months that Cobain lived on the streets, he slept in various places such as cardboard boxes, hallways of buildings abandoned, waiting rooms in town hospitals, etc. And that he wrote the lyrics imagining what it would feel like to be a person who lives under the bridge and is slowly dying of an illness, since that was a kind of fantasy that the singer had.
Was about himself. 😢

I love how when the song is played in the movie, it's presented in an entirely different context each time. Near the beginning it plays over shots of Gotham looking desolate and rotten, and it's meant to convey how Batman feels about Gotham. At the end, its useage signifies that "Something in the way" was Batman's own obsession with striking fear into the criminals of Gotham - he realizes he needs to give the civilians hope in doing so. Very genius use of the song.
Yes! I love how the song feels dark and foreboding the first time and yet feels hopeful at the end. Great song, great direction and editing.
I agree, but that's not how I thought of it at the end. I thought of it as Batman is going to be the one "in the way" of anyone who threatens Gotham, and how he's becoming a defender of the city instead of a vigilante. Your idea sounds better though!
The lyrics in the verse also chillingly match up with Riddler's master plan in the finale of the movie.
@@werewolf7262 Basically he just wanted to beat criminals. He had no purpose until the end. He didn't care about anyone's safety
There's a similar thing with other elements, like how Batman shows up at the Penguin's club, and has to fight the twins, but later as Bruce Wayne, is let in, or that one poor person who glares and says something to him as Bruce at the funeral, but later is unmasked as one of the Riddler's followers, and even mentions 'Vengence' in a different context than his own use of it early in the movie, which is a part of his arc in realizing he needs to be, to do more, than just 'vengence', beating up thugs on the streets.
It still amazes me how the combination of Batman, Robert Pattinson and this song created one of the best films in history. It's unique, it's poetic, it's unforgettable.

This song has always spoken to something inside me. Something about Kurt's voice I guess. Just love it endlessly!
Hi
I see you everywhere.
This song was recorded with laying on a couch with the lights off in the studio. Butch Vig ended up setting up microphones next to the couch and lighting candles
And is this why people call me emo?
I got chills in the theatre when this played for the first time, excellent song choice
I agree!

The city has gotten crowded even with the rain. Hidden in the chaos is the element waiting to strike like snakes and I'm there too... watching, two years of nights have turned me into a nocturnal animal. I must choose my targets carefully....it's like they say i can't be everywhere....They don't know where I'm...........we have a signal now for when I'm needed but when that light hits the sky, it's not just a call it's a warning them.....*FEAR* is a tool.
They think I'm hiding into the shadows.
" *But* *IAM* *the* *SHADOWS* "

Thousandth like 👍🏼
I got chills looking at the guy who sued the band
This song is proof to all those people who say Kurt wasnt a great singer, he was a great screamer. Kurt was and is the GOAT
Screamer
!!
Nah he trash compared to Chris Cornell
@@dragonborndylan7609 POV: you're the one who belongs to the 7 unlikes, btw SHUT UP KID
@@fortunatocalara7788 lol shut up you're just a rejected cask of amomtilado character. Chris Cornell has the best voice ever. Kurt's is overrated, I like nirvana

Been on loop forever
1 year ago, today this was the first song I learnt to play on guitar
There's something about listening to this on a stormy day, around 3pm, it just enhances the feeling.
It maybe just a sign. We need to start feeling again. I hold onto something that's gone. Morality and the basics. My 18yr old played this song bc has really good taste and they listening to what I grew up on. Or he's looking for something deeper than what society is giving
Ur batmam🤣🤣🤣
Riders on the storm during a summer thunder storm...

Hey Kurt, 28 years later now and we still miss you everyday. I hope you were able to find some kind of peace on the other side. Gone but not forgotten. Rip Kurt
He's been gone longer then when he was here
I'm sure Kurt will read your comment big boy
I still remembered exactly where I was, and how I cried when I found out...💔
He took the easy way out
do they have wifi in the other world
Listening to this song on April 5th hurts
Still jamming since 90
Just watched the movie. People just wait to watch the movie with this masterpiece after getting out from the theatre there is no way you can get it out of your head.❤️
I'm form Bangladesh & in here the movie released one day before the international release day which very proud moment for us 🇧🇩❤️
Pure detective movie well scultured, but also had some flaws. Was a bit disappointed.
@@rajarshi_4479 curious what disappointed you?
@@Predetorkiller seemed very easy for the bat to decipher the riddles, that's not so easy. Even while trynna detonate the bomb. The story could have been a little more pacy given the timeframe, with some light on Bruce's childhood and origin story(if not). But, bottom line which should always be enlightening for DC fans like us, everyone performed excellently in acting, especially Pattinson.
@@rajarshi_4479 well worded
forgot how much i love this song
Same.
i never forgot it
forgot? never, I remember the first time I heard the album; UN compound in Nicosia, with some girls in the tent, and my friends Mat and Derek. Never going to see them again, like we're never going to see Kurt, but to forget... not gonna happen. :)
New to me
I'm a nirvana fan since 2008
Discovered it now thanks to the BATMAN and I've been listening a lot 🖤🦇
Dear strangers you have a good taste of music :-)
It really hurts not having him around anymore.
# for "I miss someone I never met"
Song still holds dear to our hearts
I miss the old days
Yea
@@93jdmmike It died a long time ago. I just now listen to the modern punk and rock bands. Like Yard Act but there might never be a band like nirvana.
